From Butiki Teas

Our Irish Cream Butter Crisps tea pairs an intense creaminess with rich buttery sugar crisps for a decadent dessert treat. Adding some brown crystal sugar intensifies the sugar cookie component and cuts some of the creamy flavor. This is our creamiest tea yet.

Ok…. the dry leaf of this tea, and the brewed scent, are really strongly hay-ish, and weird. Almost pungent? Quite off-putting. I’m actually really surprised that nobody else has mentioned it… so I am wondering if it’s just something with this baggie (though that seems odd). Does seem a bit like an aroma I’ve smelled before with white tea, although I can’t place exactly where.

In regards to the flavouring though, I can definitely taste the irish cream beneath the strange presumably white tea flavour, and it’s actually really good. Not particularly a cookie or anything, but a tasty tea – I just wish that weirdness was less noticeable (but I’ll probably still drink it). No rating because of that (I’d go for mid-60s with the weird flavour).

Huh, maybe it’s the flavoring? This is the exact same Bai Mu Dan that we use for our Cantaloupe & Cream.

Cameron B.

I usually associate Bai Mudan (and sometimes Bai Hao Yin Zhen) with a hay-like flavor. Dunno about pungent though…

Kittenna

It’s really strong – my mom wrinkled her nose at it too. I’ll compare it to my Cantaloupe & Cream when I’m back at home, but since that tea’s pretty old, it’s probably lost some flavour. It’s possible that it’s just an aspect of the flavour that’s amplifying the tea or something. I’ll have to give it a second shot, maybe in a couple days. I wish I could sent scent-mail or something so people could smell what I’m talking about! :P

Butiki Teas

Our Bai Mu Dan definitely has hay notes but I wouldn’t say pungent. The flowers could add to that too and maybe the flavorings are meshing with it in a way that makes it seem stronger.

Cheri

I love the way this tea smells. I don’t think pungent, though.

Kittenna

Maybe pungent isn’t quite the right word, but I can’t quite settle on what it would be. It’s a very strong dry hay-y aroma. But not sweet hay. Like, old hay.

Cameron B.

Musty? :P

Butiki Teas

Kittenna-I know what old hay smells like. I think that is probably the flavoring mixed with the tea. I think the flavorings that we used to give it a more buttery flavor (not the Irish Cream).

Kittenna

Ah! You might be right, Stacy. I was thinking that there’s no way it could be the flavouring, since I can definitely taste Irish Cream and it’s lovely, but I wasn’t considering that other flavours were also added. It’s probably the butter flavouring, you’re right. Mystery solved! I will endeavour to try it again sooner rather than later keeping this in mind. I also think I may have overleafed, which would have contributed to the flavour being overly strong.

I hope your next session is better. :)

This is creamy and buttery without tasting too buttery. I think what saves it is that it isn’t too sweet. Sweet coconut flavors tend to come out buttery to me and I find it gross and oily. This is pleasant, though I don’t get a strong baked flavor.

Well…the name itself sounded so promising. And the dry leaf scent – so, SO promising. Downright yummy, in fact. I know it’s a white tea, and judging from the reviews I knew it would be light on taste, so I upped the amount of tea a bit to try to compensate. The flavor was still quite subtle. I did notice a little creaminess, but didn’t get any cookie or baked good flavor at all. Could just be that my black tea lovin’ taste buds can’t appreciate the subtlety of this tea.

There’s just something addictive about this one—the combination of the subtle tea base and the flavors are just right. It hits that balance between creamy and tart, but not in the sense I would use those words for stronger, not-white teas either. It was the first tea I reached for after I got back from the holidays, and one I go back to time and again in the evenings—even though white teas aren’t all low in caffeine as commonly believed, this one does seem to be very light in that regard. I’m glad I still have a sizable portion of it left! (Increased rating)

I had this one yesterday. It’s sweet and buttery and creamy. It doesn’t taste like a cookie, but it does remind me of a cookie, so it’s all good. I didn’t try this one sweetened, but I think I will next time.

So it seems alcoholic beverages have been inspiring my Candy Cane eggnog latte choices. Yesterday I was channeling mojitos with my lime/mint combo and today I was thinking Grasshoppers taste good so perhaps this tea would pair well with the Candy Cane eggnog. The result is really amazing! The cream is so strong and amazing with a hint of butter and a nice smooth peppermint flavor from the eggnog. So refreshing and oh-so-sweet. Nomnomnom….

Hmm….This one is rather interesting. Being a white tea, it’s pretty light in flavor. Was kinda expecting more flavor though, since everyone is saying it tastes like a cookie.
Sadly it doesn’t taste like anything baked to me. On the bright side, it doesn’t taste super buttery either-thank God!
It actually kinda reminds me of an Irish Breakfast tea. It’s creamy with a ever so slight hint of malt at the end of each sip. So it really reminds me of an Irish Breakfast tea. Which is good.
Not a bad tea, but I just wish it were a lot stronger! Disappointed it was so light! Oh well.

Flavors: Creamy, Malt, Sweet

I found that with other bakey flavours from Butiki, unfortunately.

To go out shopping on Black Friday or not. That is the question. It’s going to be so hard to not spend a lot of money today. My inbox is full of 20% off coupons valid through this weekend only. And of course, all my favorite tea companies are having sales. But seeing as how I just spent over $140 stocking up on my favorite Butiki teas, I really can’t justify buying more tea at the moment.

It took me a while to decide on which tea to drink first. Normally I hoard my favorites but I’m going to enjoy these teas thoroughly. I decided to start with a new one. The leaves were big and dry and hard to measure, so I had to kind of guess at what looked like 2 tsp. The flavor is delicate and lovely. The white tea shines through and leaves me wondering if this is flavored or unflavored because it blends so brilliantly. It’s buttery and creamy most of all.

I love it just the way it is. But I am curious to know how sweetener would change the flavor. Right now I’m not getting much in the way of cookies. So I added a little bit of Truvia and now it’s more reminiscent of sugar cookies. I think this is my third favorite white tea of all time. I love this! It’s so beautiful. Cantaloupe and Cream is only a tiny bit better but it’s also so different that I may like this one more depending on my mood.

Why does Stacy have to close the business? Why?! :( The tea world is going to be a much less tasty place with her gone. I’m thankful that I’ve gotten to enjoy as many of her teas as I have, but it’s still impossible not to be sad devastated that one day soon there will be no more restocking. This was probably my last Butiki order because so many of my favorites are already sold out. I feel like crying, especially because my cup is now empty. :(

I was shocked at the amount of Black Friday emails in my inbox this morning. I’m sure it’s dangerous out there!

Luckily for my wallet, I’m too lazy to shower and get dressed. So I think I’ll be skipping all the sales.

A new tea love. This tea is so amazingly delicious it really smells and tastes exactly just like sugar cookies. Sweet, buttery cookies. Truly spot on. I’m in sweet tooth heaven
