Good job, self. You made a Good Decision in purchasing an extra half ounce of this one, because it’s pretty yummy (first time not in a travel mug). Creamy plummy aroma, creamy plummy flavour. I’m really quite pleased with this one and regretting that I wasted some in a travel mug. Oh well! Still on bag #1, so there’s a fair bit left to savour.

Oh my gosh! I love this tea.

But let me begin with some backstory. I don’t like cheesecake. Ive said as much in my last review for a cheesecake themed tea. But I didn’t like that one for other reasons besides cheesecake flavor. This tea I ordered to send in a care package to my parents but didn’t try it for myself. I got a free sample in my most recent order and since my parents already tried it and one of the other samples I definitely want to share with my grandfather, i decided to try the cheesecake for myself.

For the first time I am going to apply the term ‘hug in a cup’ to a tea. this tea. Still not getting cheesecake out if it, maybe just a little if I try to think about it – but mostly its sweet and plumy and perfect without any added sugar.

Seems i like dessert teas that don’t match my real-dessert preferences (I like chocolate but not chocolate teas, hate cheesecake but love this tea).

Cheesecake or not, glad you like it! I can’t wait to get mine in the mail.

Lariel of Lórien

It’s plumlicious!

As I finished the cup, I got more of a cheesecake vibe, but maybe since I don’t eat cheesecake often enough, I can’t recognize the more aspects of it. With real cheesecake, Im too distracted by the powerful sour/curdled milk smell to notice much of the flavor.

I really loved Butiki’s other plum tea, Traditional Plum Pudding, but it was discontinued and replaced by this one a while ago. Although I was sad about the plum pudding tea, I knew that this one stood a good chance of being delicious as it combined plum AND cheesecake into one tea. The scent of this blend is mostly tangy and cheesy. The plum reminds me more of blueberry, but I bet it will come out in the flavor.

Sipping… I first taste a smooth, almost tart cheesecake flavor. It reminds me a bit of the 52Teas cheesecake blends and is almost artificial-tasting. It quickly changes into a sweet, juicy plum. Delicious! These flavors work so well together.. this cup is so good and so very unique. The only thing that I don’t really like is that the base becomes quite astringent and sort of distracts me from enjoying the cheesecake and plum. I think that I would like a different more silky base because it would really make this tea even better. Still.. this is so original and tasty. Mmm!

Mmm… plums.

Oh mama this is good.
I didn’t get to try much of it when hot, but cooled down, it is all cheesecake baby!
Curious, I added a touch of sugar and it was even more cakey!
A hair bit scratchey, so I wonder what that’s all about… but otherwise, this tea is my gold.
I’ll have to do a full review next time.

Dustin

I have been reading reviews for the new Butiki blends with envy! Someday when I have less tea I can justify an order! :)

Indigobloom

Dustin, they are SO worth it. I’d send you some but I am terrible at swaps. We could do a small one maybe, as I haven’t got much and really need to update my cupboard!!

Dustin

I have so much tea I need to try here as it is. Thank you for the offer tho!

Lariel of Lórien

It’s on my future tea list.

Indigobloom

Dustin – of course! We must do a swap though, eventually :P

Indigobloom

Lariel – I recommend it!!!

You got a deal!

I’m still not really sure what purple oolong is exactly, somebody please explain. Anyway, this smells so like plums. It’s fabulous really. Which I had a plum to compare. The flavour is plum, I get some brandy. There is also some creamy notes, but mostly it’s a good fruit tea.

Butiki Teas

While still Camellia sinensis, purple tea is a new varietal that is propagated by grafting and cutting as opposed to seeding. This particular varietal is known as TRFK 306/1 and is rich in anthocyanin (a flavonoid), which pigments the leaves a purplish color. Purple tea was primarily developed for tea health products and is rich in antioxidants. Malvidin, Pelargonidin and Delphinidin are prominent in purple tea. The purple species has been in development for 25 years in Kenya and is more resistant to frost, disease, drought, and pests. So basically, it is a new varietal that can be processed any way in order to make it into a green, oolong, black tea, etc.

Such a good tea! Definitely get the plummy juiciness, and a little of that brandy note in the background. I’m not tasting the cheesecake, per se, but I am feeling it, with a thickness on my tongue. It’s really a nice combination of taste and feeling.

I do have to say that the brandy component was most present when this was hot, and it diminished a bit as it cooled, making way for the creaminess. Also, I don’t really get much of the flavors with my second steep, but I still get a nice tea because the base alone is quite tasty.

It’s still a winner. Much better than the previous plum tea, to me.

The aroma of plum is floating around my kitchen, and it is lovely.
The taste is plum in the forefront, with brandy in the background. The cheesecake is in the aftertaste, but I don’t get that distinct “tang” that cheesecake makes me think of. I get more of a general creaminess.

What? No one has reviewed this one yet?? OK, I’ll give it a shot :)

I just steeped up a cup. It smells SO plummy! I can taste plum and the brandy too, and some creamy something or other that my brain is trying to make cheesecake. I’m drinking this unsweetened so I’m sure sweetening it would boost the dessert-like factor, but I like it plenty well unsweetened!

I feel the base is perfectly matched here, and plum is such an unusual flavor to find in tea. Quite interesting and unique!
