This was interesting, you could definitely taste the cheesecake, plum, and a hint of the brandy, but it was distorted with a bitterness that I didn’t remember being there when I first sampled this tea. A little bit of sugar fixed that, to a degree, but the bitterness remained. I don’t mind a straight tea being bitter, actually I really enjoy it in a lot of ceylon teas that I’ve drunk, but with a flavoured tea it can throw your palette off.

I followed the brewing instructions on the bag to a ‘t’. Still really delicious, the bitterness was just a little odd.

Oh, so yummy! I wasn’t sure what I would think of this one because of the unusual sounding combination. The smell out of the bag was rich with cheesecake and a small sniff of plum – the tea was dark and with flecks of purple and colors. A happy looking tea.

At first sip I didn’t get much but more came clear with further sipping. The brandy isn’t a typical brandy taste and I almost missed it, even though it’s listed as the first note. I tasted the plum in bursts at time, particularly at the bottom of the cup, very good. The cheesecake in the background loaned a creaminess. The black tea by itself seemed a bit flat but this worked to bring the subtle nuances of flavor out of the tea.

Unique and very good – would definitely order more later if Butiki was not closing its doors.

This was one of my Christmas gifts from my lovely boyfriend, and it was a complete surprise! I’ve been going on lately about the sorrow of Butiki closing, and he listened and found me a little treat!
I’m glad to say that this is delicious, full of rich flavor, the plum dancing around the cheesecake creaminess, and the brandy note just warming it all up.
What a lovely present!

This is another winner from Butiki! It smells amazing and looks really pretty with the dark purple leaves and red and blue flowers. The base is nice and smooth and just slightly sweet. I don’t really taste the cheesecake, but I do get lots of plum and a hint of brandy. Very rich and decadent!

Tasting note #1,500!! whoa. And I WAS able to make 10/10 sipdowns before this tasting note. I wanted a great tea for #1,500 so I thought I’d give this one a try from my recent order. I wasn’t going to order this one but as I was making my choices, this one kept calling to me… it sounded like a lovely blend if done right and it is BETTER than I could have expected!

Steep #1 // 1 tsp // 30 min after boiling // 4 min
First, it’s a gorgeous blend with lovely red and purple flowers added. Next, the steeped cup of tea actually smells plummy so you know the flavor will be spot on. And it IS. Oh my gosh, the perfect levels of plum and cheesecake in this very dark leafed oolong but very light brew. It’s juicy, sweet, spot on plum with hints of cheesecake. I don’t think I’ve ever had this type of oolong before but it’s a good one. I think I steeped it perfectly.

Steep #2 // 30 min after boiling // 4 min
Another lovely plumy cup. The flavor has diminished a little bit, but not drastically enough to make a second steep not worth it. I love taking the tiniest sips to savor this one and I will certainly savor the rest of the pouch I bought! Glad I ended up buying a little of this one. A little pricey for me, but worth it!

Veronica

Congrats on 1500!!!

Kittenna

Yay, a milestone! (I blew past my… 2500, I believe).

steepster is frustrating me again. Seems like every evening it starts running in to problems loading things and behaves all wonky. this was the case last night when i was trying to update my cupboard. tonight it’s still giving me grief….which doesn’t bode well for me when i know i’m going to be up all night.

this particular tea is really tasty. I’m for sure getting a better cheesecake/plum flavour balance than the irish cream one from a while back. the plum for me on this one is subtle and comes across after the cheesecake taste. delicious!

TeaBrat

it’s so annoying :-/

Marzipan

It’s so slow tonight!

OMGsrsly

It’s not really working at all for me again. :/ If I try to like something, it reloads. I get errors. I’m just gonna drink my tea and read a book, I think.

think think think….

I’ve been itching to try my hand at mixing tea soda lately. Not too long ago I had sort of tried to make a sparkling cider from apple cider-flavored tea, but it was still on the dilute side. Thanks to Roswell Strange for a good tea syrup recipe that I used this time! (1 serving of tea leaf steeped in 2 oz water, then add and dissolve 5 tsp sugar, before adding to 1 can of club soda—I used less sugar in this particular experiment but it was still very good)

Anyway, I picked this tea because it was the perfect combination of sweet, fruity, and creamy that seemed like it would work well in a soda. And the verdict is in: it’s delicious! The creaminess of this blend, along with the added sugar, created something that was just like the old-timey cream sodas that I used to enjoy in college. We had a student cafe that was only open at night for studying and socializing, and this kind of soda was always popular—it definitely brings back memories! It’s also a nice warm golden color that’s quite beautiful to look at with the bubbles drifting through it. Overall, first experiment was a great success. There are numerous other teas I’d like to try this way, and I might test how little sugar I can get away with adding since I don’t want to overindulge.

Roswell Strange

OH I’m so glad this worked for you!

Mikumofu

It worked great, thanks for the recipe!

And here’s another example of how the last cup tasted the best! Must seriously be due to the flavour dust left at the bottom of the pouch. Mmm. What a beautiful, natural, healthy dessert tea.

Sip downs are bittersweet since I’m always trying to keep my stash down, yet especially sad when I finish off a Butiki tea for obvious reasons. OBVI.

Sil

i probably can send you more of this

Fjellrev

Nah, it’s cool, but thanks for thinking of me! It’s great but not one that I would have repurchased anyway, if that makes sense.

Sil

yeah heh

Kittenna

I still haven’t tried this properly. I bought an extra bag of it on spec, and think I like it, but I’m not sure! Haha.

Fjellrev

Haha yeah I bought it only because it was shiny and new. Maybe my tastebuds are whiny, but I found it really difficult to get the flavours out.
