Thank you for the sample, Stacy! This one is truly taking my taste buds on a ride.

Firstly, I’m not tasting most of the ingredients. It seems like together, they’ve morphed into another creature… edamame beans. I’ve been taking small sips for twenty minutes now and every sip, it’s been edamame. Then about five seconds after each sip, I can taste a very faint kiss of marshmallow.

I followed the brewing instructions so I don’t know what’s going on with my life right now.

As this cools, a faint note of honey is joining the marshmallow at the very end, but they still can’t balance out the vegetal note in here. Talk about a surprise party.

Anna

Edamame marshmallow! I usually look for an element of surprise, but wow, that might just be a little too much excitement for one cup.

Sample from OMGsrsly since last time I had basically one-ish serving…and I felt like I was really on the fence with it and wanted more to see if I could get a better handle on it.

So, I have a little more to play with. Honestly? I’m still on the fence. I don’t find anything wow with this. I don’t get cake. I do get a thick mouthfeel, and sweet. I don’t find this bad or offensive…it’s good, but I think the only reason I’d get this is due to it being caffeine free, so if I found something I liked better, I’d get that.

But don’t get me wrong steepsterites…it is tasty. It’s just really mild. I’ll continue to drink it, but I think I’d be on the lookout for something better to satisfy the caffeine free option. It is something I might consider getting just for the caffeine free option in the meantime, but I’m going to eventually work with Stacy on a custom honeybush, so that might fill the gap.

I have a few more servings left to see if my mind changes.

I’ve been happy to have this option in my cupboard for when I grow tired of rooibos or honeybush in the evening. I’ve still been wanting to find that vanilla frosting or cake flavor that others are lucky to find, but to me.. it just still tastes like the eggnog tea with a marshmallow leaf base. I think I’d always like to keep this around, but it doesn’t taste much like birthday cake to me.

Cameron B.

It actually reminds me a lot of chamomile, but with vanilla and cream added. :P

Sil

I’m with you there queen!

Cheri

Did you add sugar to it? Just a little bit and then all of a sudden I got cake and frosting….

Lynxiebrat

maybe in addition to sugar, try some cream, that might add a frosting like taste. I would also add sprinkles just for the funzies of it.

QueenOfTarts

Cameron B. – the first time I had this tea it reminded me quite a bit of Sleepytime tea. I can definitely see where you get the chamomile association!

Cheri and Lynxiebrat – I haven’t had this cup with sugar. I drink my tea plain 98% of the time.. but I will try it with a touch of sugar to see if it brings out any more of that birthday cake flavor! Thanks!

Cheri

I usually drink my tea plain, but Stacy said to add just a little sugar, and when she tells me to do that, she’s right.

This is not a good Butiki sample day for me. Starting with just OK and ending with my least liked Butiki tea yet.

The tea smelled cake-y in the bag, but it brewed into something quite different. I can sort of see how it’s supposed to resemble cake, but certainly not birthday cake. Birthday cake is all about the frosting and the sugar and as much “i’ll regret this later” sprinkled in as possible. Of course, I don’t expect a tea to come close to such heart-clogging authenticity, but this one didn’t meet even my realistic expectations.

It tastes like a very nutty unsweetened sponge cake. There are very few nutty teas that I really like and sponge cake is not my favorite sweet or not.

DavidsTea Birthday Cake is still my happy cake tea until I find ‘the one’ (^.^)

Ill have to continue doing my persimmon tree samples another day, today and days to come I just want comfort teas. This sample came with my first butiki order. It smelled just like a birthday cake before steeping. After, it did smell like bread. And tasted like it took. I sipped half the cup hoping to find that sweet cake and icing. I did not, so i added a tad bit of sugar and cream! and BAM there it is! Delicious! I love it! I will have to add this to my shopping list. Thank you Stacy!

Had this as a special treat last night since Stacy included some in my husband’s birthday order for me :D

Cheri

Stacy is awesome like that.

Cameron B.

I think I need to grab some of this when I order from Butiki. I’m not sure that I’ll love it but it’s so inexpensive! :3

I recently purchased this from QueenOfTarts and since I’ve decided today is butiki sample day I thought I would try it out.

This tea is proof that you don’t need to use sprinkles to create festive tea, it’s really quite lovely with its bright rainbow of colors. The dry leaf smelled somewhat like birthday cake, but that didn’t really transfer over to the brewed tea. While I enjoyed this, it doesn’t really remind me of birthday cake. I get a bit of sweetness, perhaps from the flavoring or the marshmallow leaf, but as the tea cools I’m losing the sweetness I initially noticed. I don’t believe I’ve had marshmallow leaf before, so I’m not entirely sure what flavors it is contributing to this blend.

This won’t be a cupboard staple, but it is a very nice herbal blend. I’ll have to look around for some more blends containing marshmallow leaf, it is a nice alternative to some of the herbals I’ve been drinking.

This tea is absolutely amazing and will be a new staple for me! I did not add any sweetener to this blend but found there really was no need. The flavoring was very reminiscent of vanilla cake and was incredibly smooth. The depth and body of flavors grew with every sip and was a delight! For anyone looking for a nice herbal blend that has some added health benefits (or not), this is one definitely worth trying! *As a special note, I wanted to mention how lovely Stacey was to send this in advance of the web release and to include a nice birthday greeting. :)

I put this in my basket with my first order with Butiki Tea. I’ve been looking forward to this, mainly because I was really intrigued that there was a supposedly cake-tasting herbal tea.

The tea itself is very pretty to look at. Brewed, the color is a pale amber. The flavor is subtle. It tastes very herby and not cake-like at all until I added a smidge of sugar. That helped bring out some of the flavoring. I’m definitely getting sweet vanilla, but it’s less reminiscent of cake and instead brings to mind the overly sweet frosting found on sheet cakes bought at the grocery store. There is an undertone that could be considered cakey, I suppose, but it’s hidden and still fairly herby.

I do like this tea, but not sure I like it enough to purchase again.

Surprise sample in my package from Courtney (thank you again SO MUCH, I’ve been doing a happy dance since it arrived)!

I like this tea a lot better than DAVIDsTEA’s Birthday Cake. The smell of the dry leaves is insane — sweet and sugary and just what I’d expect from a tea with this name! It retains that sweet aroma in the steeped liquor. The taste, however, is super light. It reminds me of cool vanilla frosting that’s been whipped up and then layered onto a cake. Delicious.

Looking forward to seeing how this resteeps tonight, and maybe adding some sugar to bring out more of the desert flavor.
