From Butiki Teas

What better way to wind down the day than with chocolate and mint? Our Peppermint Patty pairs organic marshmallow leaf, a naturally sweet caffeine-free herb, with sweet organic peppermint, and mellow milk chocolate. This light and refreshing herbal works well as an after dinner treat. With each sip, the flavor grows stronger and lingers longer. Add a little sugar to intensify the chocolate flavor. Please research all precautions before consuming any herbal tisane.

Sipdown (152/157)!

Stacy was kind enough to add in a sample of this with my Butiki order. I have actually had it before and from my recollection I wasn’t super impressed but hey, why not have it again? Tastes evolve, and after Stacy was so kind to include it for me it’d be a crime to not have it.

So after a round of caffeinated things after getting up I decided a few caffeine free things were called for meaning this blend came into play sooner rather than later. As a mint chocolate tea, I still thought it was pretty “meh”/“could do with or without it”overall, but it wasn’t bad and it was a nice break from the citrus/Chai this morning.

I think it was creamier this time around? Maybe there was more marshmallow leaf in this sample than the one I’d had previously…

New tea #2 from my Black Friday order. This is a really nice tisane! I’m mostly getting the crispest, most refreshing blast of peppermint, with some extra sweetness and just a hint of chocolate. I noticed that a bunch of the chocolate chips didn’t melt; reading through other reviews I’m belatedly seeing the suggestion to stir while it’s brewing. I’ll try that next time. Even without the full-on chocolate, though, I’m really enjoying this. It may just win itself a place in my pantheon of caffeine-free favorites.

I thought Birthday Cake was the one that got discontinued?

You’re right! My bad :)

Good, I’d be sad if this one was discontinued already!

Ok, this is dead on for a peppermint patty. And also, blegh, I do not like my tea to taste like a peppermint patty. Mint teas? Sure. Chocolate teas? Sometimes. But the combination is so not working for me. Just… no.

Thanks for the sample, Stacy!

I received a sample of Peppermint Patty today with my Butiki Teas order. I do enjoy a nice mint tea or herbal and was excited to try this one. The aroma is definitely peppermint but toned down with a sweet, creamy chocolate. I steeped it per instructions on the sample bag. I added a small amount of sugar as recommended in the tea description. At the first sip while the tisane was still very hot I mostly tasted peppermint with a non-descript herbal taste and a hint of chocolate. As the tea cools the chocolate becomes more prominent and creamy but still not shouting this is a chocolate tea. The peppermint and chocolate are balanced perfectly to my taste! I really like the fact that there are mini chocolate chips in the mix and not a dusting of cocoa powder. I really enjoyed this sample and am sad that I didn’t purchase any this order. I am definitely going to be including this with my next order. I need a few delicious non-caffinated herbal tisanes for evening relaxation.

I love that this blend uses marshmallow leaf it’s such an underutilized herb. I’ve always used it for soothing sore throats and heartburn, but it works great for upset stomachs as well and boy do I have an upset stomach today. The combination of marshmallow leaf and peppermint is doing wonders to make me feel better, I just wish I had remembered I had some of this left when I started feeling sick a few days ago.

The dry leaf of this tea smells just like a York peppermint patty, although since the chocolate chips don’t melt all the way, it doesn’t quite taste as chocolatey as one. I don’t mind that though, since I wanted more of a soothing herbal tea than a dessert tea. I’ll have to make sure to reorder this next time I place an order with Butiki. Apparently I’ve been drinking this one and not logging it, because I only had enough leaf left for 4 cups.

So um, apparently I’m the first to try this. This wasn’t even in Steepster’s database until I added it myself. I’m special? :D

Received this as a bonus sample on my most recent Butiki order. :) I got a bit of a chuckle at the sight of it, because I don’t like peppermint teas, and I also don’t like chocolate teas. But it’s not like I’m gonna complain about a freebie! :)

Anyway, I’m actually really pleasantly surprised. The peppermint is a bit too overpowering for me while it’s piping hot — again, I don’t like peppermint tea, I’m sure this is perfectly balanced for the peppermint lover — but I’m amazed at how good the chocolate actually tastes. I decided that I don’t like tea that tries to be chocolate on purpose. It always come out tasting like dirt and really nasty, every single one that I’ve tried. (which is actually quite a lot)

But this is actually quite good. I even had a mint chocolate tea combo earlier (Read My Lips) that I had to pour down the drain after literally two sips, but here I am, sipping away. As the description says, each time I sip, I taste the chocolate a little bit longer, and it’s totally not a bad thing. :) In fact, I’ve decided that I’d like to try either Three Friends or Raspberry Truffle also from Butiki. Judging by this tisane, she can make it work!

Edit: I really am surprised about this one. As it cooled, the sweetness really came through, and it was almost difficult to believe that I didn’t add any sugar. I’m seriously considering purchasing this, which is incredible considering my hatred of nearly everything peppermint. If you like mint-chocolate such as After Eights or something, get this! It’s really quite good!

Glad to hear! We picked up a couple of ounces of this one our last order :D

Ooh yay! :) Hope you enjoy it! The marshmallow flavor doesn’t come out at first, but after it’s had time to cool a bit, it’s very present and really yummy :)

More fangirling. I made a few ladyfinger sandwiches with elderberry jam and cream cheese to go with my rose tea (I picked up the jam when we got our pumpkins for jack o’lanterns this week, on a whim hoping maybe it’d help our immune systems and be good for our new afternoon tea ritual), and it was all “if you give a mouse a cookie” chain reactions where the finger sandwiches made my husband want some, and then that made him want his own tea, and then he mentioned he wanted something dessert-y but with no caf and hey, this just arrived today (yay). So he had the cup really, but I smelled it dry, steeping, and in the cup and slurped a little of it.

And I’m as usual impressed and wondering how Butiki does that, makes it so eerily like the inside goo of a peppermint patty. I was kind of expecting this one to be disappointing honestly, because I’ve tried a handful of choco-mint teas from other good companies and only one has ever evoked dessert more than just straight up medicinal mint, and even the successful one did so by tasting overwhelmingly of cream (so you get grasshopper chip). Really was not expecting that genuine specific candy thing, but it’s there. Dry and steeping the aroma is mouthwatering milk chocolate, which I’ve experienced before but always followed by the flavor just being mint with a little sweetness at the end. Nope. Here the mint is stronger in taste than aroma as usual, but it is truly that gooey patty filling mint (like a junior mint!), not just mint leaves. Yum! Resteeped it becomes a nice if normal/standard sweet mint tea.

Oh, you must have learned about elderberries on the episode of ‘The Walking Dead’ this week. Well, I did anyway. :D

Thanks for the free sample Butiki! This is absolutely wonderful. I had it in my tumbler at work. The chocolate makes it creamy and comforting. The chocolate and mint are balanced nicely. It’s a really nice herbal tea. Now I want more….

This was a nice mint chocolate tea. I like mint chocolate teas, and I tend to prefer ones with white chocolate as opposed to dark chocolate, but this one was a nice version as is. I think the marshmallow root really went a long way to keep the taste nice and light. Initially, I was concerned because it tasted way to sharp and minty for my tastes. However, as the mint cooled, the flavours mellowed and the quieter notes of chocolate and a bit of creaminess started to shine.

Chocolate mint is always an easy sell with me, but this was a particularly nice rendition!

Mmmm not bad! I have been on the hunt for teas that have no caffeine in them to drink. I brewed according to instructions on my sample bag of this tea which I got with my order. Nicely balanced mint and chocolate flavour. I didn’t add any sugar because I am looking for teas that I can drink without added sugar. This just might make it on my next order!
