So many Butiki Teas have arrived & I’m so excited to try all of them. I had the strawberry oolong earlier, but wasn’t in the mood to write a tasting note (I’ll do so later). My favorite coconut rooibos used to be from Teas Etc. The last pouch I ordered just tasted… rather gross, like something was wrong with the batch. I haven’t purchased that tea since. It’s been a while since I’ve had a coconut rooibos & I’m very happy to have a good one back in my collection!

I wasn’t expecting anything that different from when I last enjoyed this tea. There are small oily dots on the surface of the tea — I find them to be present with most coconut teas. The flavor is smooth & very full of coconut! For me, the rooibos is relatively hidden, but adds almost a hint of spice to the cup. The finish is creamy and sweet. I love the way it lingers after the sip has disappeared.

This tea has now taken what used to be coconut custard’s top spot. I’ll be buying more of this when I am all out!

This tea has been on my wishlist since forever. I love anything coconut, especially coconut cream pie! I’m kind of amazed that this tea doesn’t taste more strongly of rooibos. There’s a little hint of it in there, but not overwhelming at all. The coconut flavor is pretty subtle, but it’s there – nice and creamy. I’m not getting any of the graham cracker crust taste mentioned, but I can live without that. Any rooibos that you can’t actually taste the rooibos is a winner in my book! This will be a nice tea to have on hand for those nights when I need a sweet and calming dessert tea.

Today was a busy day. We had two friends over to help with house projects (changing out ceiling fans, doorknobs, light switches, etc.) and the house went from being very clean to a disaster really quick. But it’s back in order, more of the projects are complete (but still more to do) and we have a new sparkly wreath for the front door that I put together while I was supervising the boys so they didn’t burn the house down. :) I’ve also started the semester out great (insert sarcasm here), and procrastinated until the last minute for all of this homework that is due on the first day of class. Some of my classmates are doing the homework now and saying that it takes forever, and I’m mad at myself for waiting to start it. My plan of attack is to get up really early and get it done so that I can enjoy my Sunday, and the last official day of break!

-Dry blend has small pieces of red rooibos with large slivers of coconut.
-Dry leaves smell lightly of coconut pie with a hint of mediciney rooibos. Tea liquor aroma is of warm rooibos and fresh coconut.
-Tea liquor is a clear medium orange brown color.
-Smooth fresh coconut flavor and finish. Creamy coconut pie aftertaste.
-Best with sweetener.
-Very good tea. A creamy cup. Subtle coconut cream pie flavor. No strong rooibos taste.

This is another sample sent by Azzrian, thanks for sharing !

I decide to explore a little the rooibos world, and this one is a nice one.
The coconut flavour is perfect and really creamy.
As for many Butiki teas, I think the flavours are revealing themselves more while the tea cup is cooling rather that hot.

I liked it very much but I’m pretty sure I would be really in love if the tea base would have been black or or white tea.

Thanks to Stacy at Butiki for a sample of this!

I had been excited to try it, pie and coconut are two of my favorite things ever so that in a tea sounded great.

I’m always wary of rooibos because I don’t love it. I love some rooibos teas but only the ones that are self aware enough to know that they are much better off hanging out in the background…not the over confident ones that think they could carry a tea.

(Some I love – all of Della Terra’s lemon/lime ones, their Blueberry Creme, and Davidstea Alpine Punch)

This is one of those cocky rooibos, it takes over. I knew the second I smelled it that this would be the case, because all I smell is rooibos. Stacy’s flavored teas are quite subtle and so far from what I’ve tried that worked out, but in this case the flavor is lost underneath the rooibos. For me, that’s bad, because I’m not a rooibos fan.

I can say that it was pretty damn creamy though. I just would have preferred it as a black or maybe with the Frost Oolong!

Glad I got try it anyway, now I can officially scratch it off the list.
:)

Now I will go back to drooling over Andrew McCarthy in Pretty in Pink!

TastyBrew

Ha. My feelings toward rooibos exactly. And Andrew McCarthy for that matter :-)

TastyBrew

And not gonna lie, I do love me some spader.

ohfancythat

Yessss Spader!!

Starfevre

I’m confused, spander? The only spander I’m familiar with is Spike/Xander from BtVS…

TastyBrew

James Spader. 80’s teen/20 something movie star. Now smoldering older man :-)

Many thanks for the sample, Stacy! Seeing that it’s later in the evening and I still feel like drinking tea, I thought this would be a good time to try out a rooibos. I’m normally not a rooibos fan, but I love coconut, so it’s worth a shot.

There was a very generous amount of coconut shreds in my little pouch, and I can detect a faint coconutty sweetness wafting from the dry leaf.

Honestly, I can barely taste the coconut in here, but granted, I may be a little sensitive to rooibos. To me, it’s more like drinking plain rooibos with a splash of sweet coconut water. It’s perfectly sweet. Personally, I find no need to add any sweetener.

I actually finished up my cup about fifteen minutes ago, and oddly enough, NOW I’m tasting the coconut in my mouth more than ever.

If you like rooibos and coconut, of course, definitely go for it.

The smell of the leaves on this one reminds me especially of coconut rum. But on tasting it – much more toasty and pie-like. The rooibos is definitely apparent (and does remind me of graham crackers), but the added creaminess in this softens it well. The taste begins with a very sweet toastiness, then melts into a light coconut flavor with a slightly cool feeling. The coconut lingers for a while after each sip, which is really pleasant! As it cools, the rooibos seems to assert itself more and it begins to take on a vanilla-y smell.

Sipdown!! (115 as the rest is being sent off to Roswell Strange)

Some stories before my review so if you want to read about the tea, feel free to skip ahead :).

First off, I have discovered a tasty new, low calorie treat. Initially I found this recipe: http://adesiretoinspire.blogspot.ca/2013/04/monday-munchies_15.html. However, as healthy as that is, it is not exactly Jenny-approved so I tweaked it slightly. I ended up using a single serving portion of Liberte 0% Strawberry Greek Yogurt (the one with the fruit at the bottom that you have to stir to flavor the yogurt), 2 tsps creamy peanut butter, and a splash of vanilla extract. It was sweet, salty, creamy, and really, really delicious. Plus it was filling and 100% Jenny-approved :).

Secondly, I think the universe does not want me to have any of Della Terra’s Apple and Molasses. Wonderful steepsters, like MissB and Scheherazade (thank you!!), have been so kind to send me more given I dropped it the last time I was packaging some up to share. Today, I opened the last sample package I have to package some for Roswell Strange and of course I dropped it yet again. I think I should take this as a sign: two packages, two swaps, and dropped twice. Tea fail!

On to the tea:

Initially when I tried this tea, all I tasted was rooibos and a coconut that bordered on tasting like suntan lotion to me. However, my tea twin, Roswell Strange, kept talking about the crust she was tasting. I decided the send her what I had because I think she will appreciate it far more than I ever will but before I sent it away, I wanted to give it one more try.

Unfortunately, though I pick up on notes every now and then that could be crust if I really use my imagination, my initial impression still remains the same. I suppose this one is just not for me. Oh well, off to your new home tea!

Roswell Strange

I’m under 200 again… That’s a thing.

VariaTEA

Yay!! for under 200 and I can actually remove a few more teas as they are being sent away :)

Sil

awesome! grats on getting under 200

Roswell Strange

It wont last long though – there’s stuff on the way from all you lovable but stupidly generous people. I’ve been doing pretty good with sipdowns, though.

VariaTEA

I have now packaged up your teas, Roswell so you will be getting more teas soon. Though I tried to restrain myself from sending you all the teas.

TeaLady441

Woah. That’s awesome you guys. :)

Thanks Stacy for the delicious sample!
I’ve been shying away from rooibos, but Butiki lured me back ;)

Enjoying this one as a late night latte with milk and agave. It’s so darn creamy and smoooth. I’m still not feeling you rooibos – but with this flavour I can really enjoy this late night treat. aahhh

Sil

i should try this one sometime…

This is my tisane of the evening mixed with soymilk. I also added some coconut extract to bump up the flavor a bit. I haven’t been drinking much rooibos lately and I’ve been missing it a bit!
