From Bird & Blend Tea Co.

The rooibos base tea perfectly balances the light fruit sponge flavours along with that authentic almond taste! Another twist on an Easter classic to make it Tea-rrific!

Ingredients: Rooibos, Sri Lankan black tea, apple pieces, hibiscus, rosehip, orange peel, natural flavouring

March 2020 subscription

The aroma is very present in a pouch. It’s that strong I think it must be very strong in taste as well. I took two tea spoons, I bet I saw there strawberry piece, but by ingredients it should not be there.

Anyway, I had to go outside for little while, so other family members prepare it – so I don’t know exact steeping time.

It is very aromatic. I notice fruits, cherries probably most prominent, as well cherry wood. Some cake notes as well.

Taste is quite tart. Again cherries, marzipan, drying. Not very enjoyable to be honest. Maybe wood notes? I think it was oversteeped, but not too much. As Amanda said, I think I won’t crave for this one as well. It’s not bad, marzipan flavouring is tasty, but overall it is pretty “only” okay.

Flavors: Cherry, Cherry Wood, Drying, Marzipan

Another tea that came in my March Bird and Blend subscription. They’ve been sending quite a lot of rooibos based teas over the last few months, which I wish I could opt out of, because I generally don’t care for them. Though, I’m glad I got to try this one, because I can’t take any rooibos woodiness. I had actually never heard of a simnel cake before this tea, but based on what I’m reading about them, this tea seems to be an accurate representation. I can taste the marzipan (I really like the marzipan flavoring Bird and Blend uses, some of my favorite teas from them are very marzipany), dried fruits, and bit of candied orange. Overall really tasty, but so close to Mince Pie, that I don’t feel the urge to stock up on this one.
