2022 Sipdown 5/365!

Mastress Alita’s Sipdown Challenge January 2022: New tea

I believe this was a free sample from B&B at some point; I always like when companies send free samples of teas I haven’t tried!

Wasn’t really expecting much from this tea, but it’s actually kind of pleasant. I unintentionally let it cool completely, so it feels nearly chilled (even though my house is apparently 21.5 degrees right now, it tastes almost icy), and kind of like a fruity sour orange lemonade? I’m not really picking up on the peach here, more of a lemony-orange. I suspect that would make a decent iced tea, though, with that fruity tartness.

#battleofthepeaches

This was my fifth place cold brew from the battle, though I didn’t mind it. As I said on instagram, the orange and peach flavours both come through as sort of sweeter, candy like flavours along with something more tropical tasting – it’s a bit like a sherbet or maybe even a “Froot Loops” type of flavour. My main issue was just that the overall flavour was quite generic and forgettable.

I also observed that, after finishing my instagram post, there was a building and almost floral flavour note as I drank the brew that got to be a little overwhelmingly artificial and perfumey.

I’m sad I didn’t love this one more – Peach and Orange always reminds me of Fuzzy Navels, which is the first cocktail I learned to make for myself when I started drinking. It’s a little nostalgic, and while this was a fine tea it didn’t capitalize on that nostalgia the way it was set up to…

Sipdown (342)

I made this hot and then promptly fell asleep. So I drank it cool and while I got more orange, I still wasn’t overly enthused.

I enjoyed a free sample of this, so I bought a 50g bag, which I enjoyed considerably less. It was confusing since I liked the sample so much. I kept having it cold, brewed various ways, and it always tasted so weak and vaguely orangey. I gave up and gave the rest to my sister. She drank it hot and loved it. I tried the last cup hot, and actually, it was pretty good! Like a warm orange cider? I wish I’d tried it like this earlier! I still won’t buy this again, but I’m glad I finally found the right way to drink it.

That happens to me all the time. /cry Buying a lot after a really tasty sample…

It’s always such a bummer!

It’s not time for iced tea, so I guess I will finish this tea hot.
Two teaspoons and two remaining. Maybe in the evening I will prepare another one.

Time flies. Apparently last time I had this tea 10 months ago. So it is indeed time to finish it.

Tea itself – is somehow still same. Bit salty (probably the rice), quite strong apple pieces base. Not a luck with peach flavour again, and only a little of oranges. Apple-Orange tea than Peach-Orange. “It’s fine”-VariaTEA … and I have to agree.

Nothing great, not fruity as I have expected… quite meh.

We had a few days in the 80’s and iced tea was wonderful, but today it is 55 and breezy, so a pot of hot tea it is!

Temperatures dropped from 15°C (60°F) to -2°C (today, 28°F, little snow). Good choice to drink hot drink!
