Baochong Oolong (or Bao Chong, Bao Zhong) is a lightly oxidized oolong tea originated from northern Taiwan. Although Baochong is categorized as Oolong tea, in Taiwan, the term Baochong is to distinguish this long twisted style tea from half ball Dongding style Oolong. As a local said: North Baochong, South Oolong.
Baochong is very lightly oxidized, just next to Green Tea. The natural floral aroma distinguish it from other Oolongs. The best Baochong is produced in Taipei area, all Baochong teas grown in this area are named 「Wenshan Baochong」 after 「Wenshan region」 in Taipei.
For Baochong tea, you’ll look for its fresh clear flowery notes. Good Baochong’s intoxicating aroma will lingers in your throat.
This particular “Medium Roasted Baochong” is darker than regular Baochong with hint of pleasant ripe peach flavour.

This is another goody courtesy of Jessica!
The first infusion is very light in color but flavorful. Both the aroma and taste are slightly buttery and grassy with a nutty edge thrown in. I don’t think I’ve ever had a medium roast oolong but this is very nice.
The second infusion is slightly more bitter and grassy but isn’t off-putting.
The third infusion is on the light side but the bitterness has been replaced with a fruity aftertaste. Unfortunatelu, I don’t think another infusion is in my future. The leaves are fully open and the last infusion wasn’t strong enough to risk another cup.
Overall I’m glad to have tried this as it reminds me why I like oolongs but this isn’t the best example out there.

AuraTeas sent me 4 free Oolong samples (an offer on their facebook page). This is the first one. This oolong is a little grassy and is chewy. It has floral and fruity (peach) notes at the end of the sip and in the aftertaste. The beginning of the sip is grassy. It brewed up to a beautiful golden yellow color. I like it. I don’t love it. But, I don’t personally like teas on the grassy end of the spectrum.
