It’s a drupe, a stone fruit related to the cherry, peach, and plum. Its original Latin name means “tonsil plum”. Aren’t you glad it was changed? Quirky names aside, almonds add a sweet nuttiness to tagines, salads, and it’s a nutritious snack. Almonds are mentioned as far back in history as the Bible. They were a prized ingredient in bread served to Egypt’s pharaohs. Their exact ancestry is unknown, but almonds are thought to have originated in China and Central Asia. Explorers ate almonds while traveling the Silk Road between Asia and the Mediterranean. In the 18th Century, aided by the Franciscan monks, the almond tree made a leap to California, where it found a hospitable home. A large almond industry is now based in the Sacramento area.

A friend gave me this as a gift, and I didn’t think it was so bad. It had more of an almond smell than a taste, but I was fairly okay with that. I wouldn’t rave, but I wouldn’t complain either.

Not bad. The almond flavor in this is more of a sweet amaretto than a savory almond taste. It stood up well to a second steeping and still had a fair amount of almond flavor. I didn’t get a chance to do a third steeping. Prepared with stevia.

So it at least smells nice…One positive. Am nervous to take a big slurp. Uh oh! Does not quite taste the way it smells. I was expecting more the marzipan, amaretto :(
The Oolong is inviting as the tea cools down a bit but Adagio – You guys can do better!
