From Adagio Teas - Discontinued

The Shinchas are here! The Shinchas are here! Each year, the first harvest of Japanese Green Tea is cause for celebration in Japan and among green tea lovers around the world. All winter long the plants have been storing up nutrients to fight through the spring frost and sprout the first buds of the year. These precious leaves are extremely rare (especially outside of Japan) and widely considered to be the finest green teas in the world. This year Adagio is proud to offer a very limited supply of premium, deep-steamed Shincha from the Shizuoka prefecture. The brilliant, dark green, needle-like leaves of this incredible specialty deliver a fragrant aroma, translucent cup and a flavor profile that is surprisingly full bodied yet light, and sweet on the finish.

Ingredients: Sencha green tea

Steeping Instructions: Steep at 165° for 2 minutes.

Steeped: Nice light green color. Tastes a little like the sprouts Jimmy Johns used to use mixed with flowers.

The first thing about this tea that struck me was its bring almost light lime green hue to the brew. The taste is very light, fresh and sweet, without any of the overwhelming grassy taste that is common with Sencha. I’ll have to say that this is the best Japanese green teas that I’ve had to date. If it wasn’t so expensive I’d consider buying more beyond the free sample I got with my order.
