Tea of the Week for December 13, 2021!

inspired by a Ukrainian candy, this tea starts with a blend of Yunnan teas (Royal Yunnan & Golden Yunnan) & Assam, combined with freeze-dried apricots & a special blend of essences to create a sweet, caramel-y note. This yummy tea makes a delicious dessert tea – or a delightfully indulgent breakfast tea!

This tasty tea is organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free & all natural!

more about this tea: this tea was inspired by a Ukrainian candy. There are several different flavors of the candy, but the one that stood out to me most (probably because it was the first one I tried) was the apricot one – so that’s why I’m featuring it as the “Minky Binky” flavor.

The apricot isn’t really all that distinct in the candy itself, but it’s there. The flavor was more burnt sugar caramel with notes of sweet apricot that balanced out the bitterness from the burnt sugar. It was a delightful little treat – one that made me think – mmm – tea. (That happens a lot with me.)

organic ingredients: black teas, freeze-dried apricots, calendula petals & natural flavors

to brew: shake the pouch. use 3g of leaf to 12oz nearly boiling water (205°F). allow to steep for 3 minutes. strain & allow to cool for 10 minutes. Enjoy!

serving suggestion: I like this one hot best – it’s good iced too, but there’s just something about a caramel-y tea when it’s served hot. I prefer it with a little bit of sugar – it highlights the sweetness of the caramel a bit more than served without the sweetener. Also amazing as a latte.

AJRimmer Advent Day 3

I’d never heard of this tea (or the candy it’s based on) but I’m so glad I had the chance to try it! I don’t remember trying many apricot teas before and now I’m wondering why, because it’s a lovely flavor…especially paired with the burnt sugar sweetness in this blend. The base tea is hearty but not too aggressive. I really enjoyed this one and would definitely consider ordering more if 52Teas ever brings it back!

I love the apricot flavoring used here. It’s really clear and authentic. I enjoy this one sweetened with milk. I can totally see this being candy inspired, though I haven’t tasted the exact candy it’s based on. It’s sweet and fruity and a little butterscotchy. I really like it! The apricot is super strong in the resteep – somehow it’s just as good or maybe even better than the first steep.

Got my 52teas package!! I love teamail so much. Unfortunately, the timing wasn’t spectacular – my husband and I got our booster shots and both of us were hit really hard with reactions (fever, chills, etc.) so I was first totally occupied with the kids, and then trying to recover – so I’ve barely made a dent in trying them so far. And now, I think I have a cold. At least, that’s what the symptoms might indicate, and the general public no longer has access to covid testing here… so we’ll never know.

This tea was one of the first I tried – I love apricot in teas and it sounded so delicious! The aroma of the dry tea was pretty tasty, but the actual tea didn’t quite live up to the smell – the caramelly flavour was pretty light, as was the apricot. However, it was pretty tasty regardless, as I seem to like the rich and flavourful base teas. It’s possible that I oversteeped and the base teas took over a bit, so I might have to play with this or pay a bit more attention.

Thank you! I’m on the upswing now, I think, but boy is it a pain having to self-isolate our household, even though it’s only a measly 5 days now!

I’m sorry to hear that you weren’t feeling well – we need to go get our booster shots, I think I’ll wait until I get January’s boxes out before we work on that though because I don’t want to be down and out for a few days because of it. :/

This is the tea of the week for December 13. It was inspired by a Ukrainian candy – there are several different fruit flavors of the candy (not sure if it’s a brand name or if it is just the name of the type of candy) but the first one that I tried and adored – was the apricot. The candy tasted of apricot & chewy, buttery caramel/toffee.

My thoughts after trying the candy was “I need to make a tea with this kind of flavor profile.” And so I did.

The black base is strong, but tastes really nice with the notes of apricot and the hints of caramel. YUM!

Flavors: Apricot, Caramel, Toffee
