Tea of the Week for February 8, 2021!

I realized after I had blended this that it sounds very holiday-ish (as well as “autumn-like”). I actually had slightly different plans for this tea – but the pandemic struck at the Mad Tea Artist again & I realized that I didn’t have the ingredients I needed to fulfill my original recipe idea – so rather than returning to my office to come up with a new recipe – I gathered together the ingredients that I knew would taste good together & just went for it.

The base is our naturally caffeine-free honeybush – it has a naturally sweet yet slightly spicy note to it so I knew that the warm spices I chose to add next (cinnamon, clove, ginger & nutmeg) would express themselves nicely with the honeybush. For a bit of brightness, I added some dried orange wedges. Finally, to give it a sweet, cake-y flavor, I added some cake & maple essence.

So, yeah, it does taste a little like fall & the holidays. But – hey, this blend includes some of my favorite flavor profiles in a tea (maple, ginger & other spices, citrus & a little cake never hurt!) so – so what? I’m loving every sip of this autumn-like, holiday-ish cuppa! It’s organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-free & naturally caffeine-free as well!

I chose to sipdown this tea for the Scavenger Hunt category of “A Tea Flavored Like Your Favorite Muffin” – because 1) I don’t think I actually have a favorite muffin – I enjoy most muffins and/or pastries (muffins, tea cakes, coffee cakes, scones, biscuits, quick breads – I love them all) and 2) Orange Spice is one of my favorite flavor combinations & I think an orange spice muffin would be delicious right about now.

This is the last that I have of this tea – so it is indeed a sipdown. It’s so tasty – bright orange notes, pleasant spice notes. Warm & inviting, not overwhelmingly spiced but nicely balanced with the sweet & juicy orange flavors. I think I might put this on this year’s poll because I wouldn’t mind seeing it brought back for the holidays this year.

By contrast (to the previous honeybush), I rather liked this tea! Fresh-orangey and well-spiced, not quite a blend that screams Christmas, but I think that’s actually a good thing. I also didn’t find it bubble-gummy, which happens with some orange spice teas. I don’t mind honeybush when it’s nicely flavoured, so I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of this.

I totally get the bubblegum thing, especially with some of Dammann’s orange/gingerbread teas. So weird!

It really is, but I guess I never really thought about what “bubblegum” flavour actually tastes like, before…

This one is much better than the similar-sounding Sharon’s blend. The orange is clear and tasty. The spices are bold and complement the orange well. It’s a well-rounded tea! It didn’t need milk, but I added some the second time I had it, and that really helped it be a quality chai. This is one of the best takes on this flavor profile I’ve had in a while! I actually ordered a second sample packet.

Sipdown 99-2021
This has been a good week for sipdowns. I’m finally getting back into a tea sipping mood, after a few weeks of not really getting any sipdowns in.
This definitely tastes like an orange cake. I’m getting quite a bit of nuttiness, and just a touch of spice.

Sipdown! (65 | 195)

I quite liked this one!

It has a nice, natural orange flavor to it from the segments. It’s a bit like orange crossed with gingerbread to me, so I’m picturing something like an orange-flavored pumpkin bread, maybe with an orange glaze. The spicing is gentle for the most part, but I will say that I find the ginger to be a little bit too strong compared to the rest of the spices. It stands out in a way that makes the overall flavor veer a bit to the earthy side.

But I still enjoyed finishing this one off! :)
