Bonus Tea for December 2020!

My original intention with this green Kukicha was to reblend the very popular Lemon-Lime Meringue Kukicha – unfortunately, I didn’t have enough lime for that tea to reblend it. Since I had the kukicha & I had lemon, a little bit of lime, some orange as well as some grapefruit – I decided to instead make a citrus-y kukicha featuring all these citrus-y flavors – with an emphasis on the brighter notes of grapefruit & lemon with some undertones of sweetness from the orange.

The flavors of this tea are bright & citrus-y – but not too sour or tart. You get a nice punch of grapefruit & lemon, while the orange notes subdue those tart notes just enough to avoid a pucker. The kukicha is fresh & sweet. It’s a very pleasant cuppa that’s naturally low in caffeine. It’s also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen free!

organic ingredients: green tea, lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime & natural flavors

Homemade Advent Day 11
from AJRimmer
I got really excited when I saw that it was a kukicha base because I love kukicha and haven’t had any in way too long. After reading reviews I opted for a shorter steeping time than I would usually do for a green tea.
This one is definitely citrusy and I get the lemon orange and grapefruit. At times it seems a bit too heavy perhaps on the citrus for the kukicha base but other sips are just so tasty. It’s a smooth and sweet green tea with lots of flavor and packs a punch. I was able to get at least 1-2 good re-steeps as well which was really nice.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen (or paid attention, anyway) a tea with a kukicha base—which I really like!

Clarification: flavored tea with a kukicha base.

I think this is my first flavored kukicha tea as well!

I enjoy the top flavors of this tea. It has a marshmallowy softness and a lovely depth to the various fruits. The base can get a little savory and grassy, so I’d prefer these flavors on a milder green tea. It says to steep for 2.5 minutes, but it’s better at 2 minutes. Then the negative overly grassy flavor fades most of the way, or it’s still there, but somehow pleasant. I’m enjoying the lemony flavor, and the resteep is lovely.

I definitely avoid green teas, and especially ones with citrus. I just typically don’t care for them so much. However, turns out this is one of the exceptions – I opted to try it today as part of my “nesting” efforts to clean up the house before baby (hahaha) and it’s actually rather tasty. A bright but smooth citrus, no bitterness, with a really umami, beany green tea – I wouldn’t have expected that from kukicha, but it was actually quite a nice blend.

Sipdown! (43)

Yay, I’m happy to be getting through some of my subscription teas! I was feeling a bit overwhelmed when I got two Bird & Blend packages at once, so it’s not to be able to finish some off.

I really like this one! Definitely my favorite of the month, and possibly one of my favorites thus far from 52teas. The kukicha base is delicious, and has a lovely blend of sweet vegetal flavors with a bit of a roasted nuts note. And I love citrus, so I’m very happy with the grapefruit-forward citrus notes here. Definitely getting grapefruit, lemon, lime, and some form of tangerine or orange.

Zingy and bright, but with a comforting base tea! But as a lover of Japanese teas, I may be a bit biased… ;D
