A VIT! Very Important Tea

I originally blended this tea as part of the Breakfast Inspired Sampler Add-On for the start-up Kickstarter campaign, but I do have a few packages of this tea remaining.

This tea was crafted with a very special tea base (a Thyolo OP1 from the Satemwa estate in Malawi). It’s a fair-trade and rainforest alliance tea – and it’s seriously good stuff!

I used this tea as the base for flavors to create a Glazed Donut like experience – and all I can say about this is YUM! So good!

Ingredients: single estate black tea, organic calendula petals, organic all-natural flavors.

Yep, I really like this one. I think it is perfectly fine as is, subtle but glorious. A bit of glazed donut comes through, as does a bit of vanilla. I am sad that my sample of this is coming to an end.

Sample from VariaTEA this is actually pretty darn close to a glazed donut. It reminds me a lot of my favourite little timbits. I don’t think i need this in regular rotation or anything but i am impressed with this one :) noms.

Sipdown (291 – though more like 316 since I have a few teas that need to be added to steepster)

I finished this yesterday on my birthday since it seemed to fit the theme of the day. I say this because my family surprised me with (1) donuts from my favorite donut shop, (2) a giant donut cake, and (3) an entire unicorn themed sweet table (to match my rainbow hair) made by the very same baker who made my sister’s sweet table and cake for her wedding. It was a delicious evening filled with many varieties of my favorite treat…donuts! So how could I not have this tea as well which I am happy to say held its own among the many donut offerings, like a yummy glazed krispy kreme.

Evol Ving Ness

Happy birthday to you, VariaTEA! And wow, those are some serious desserts!

VariaTEA

Thank you Evol! And my whole family will have to be rolled around for a while since we are all stuffed but we’re happy.

From the Great Canadian Tea Box Round 5

I really like this. It’s not super super donut-y, but I’m suggestible enough that it works for me, and I like the base and the flavouring. I like vanilla in general, and thinking of it as a vanilla flavoured black tea, this is one of the nicest I’ve had…I want to keep the rest for myself…it’s so good.

Sil

pretty sure you COULD…that box is FULL

shezza

i think i will. i didn’t fully appreciate how well packed that box was until i tried to fit everything back in

(52teas (Anne) 2022: 14)
2022 Sipdown 4/365!

This tea was apparently from back in 2015, and I think that Anne’s black bases have improved since that time. I could pick up on the glazed icing flavouring here but not really keen on the base. It just feels kind of flat and a bit stale – which I think is a flavour that has persisted throughout its existence. Anyhow, not my favourite tea, but the flavouring was nice today for the last cup!

Evol Ving Ness

I remember quite enjoying this one.

tea-sipper

I wish for more donut teas!

Evol Ving Ness

Hear, hear!

Kittenna

Mmmm, a Canadian maple donut tea could be so delicious! I’m envisioning a houjicha base, I think. Haha.

I got this as a bonus tea with my order of samplers. The donut flavor is very, very subtle. I imagine if I added sweetener I’d get more donut flavor. It’s a nice vanilla tea but it’s fairly nondescript. That said, I love the base teas that 52Teas are using in their black tea blends – so smooth.

I shared a pot with my father in law this morning. This steeping was just perfect! I don’t even remember how much tea I put in, I just kinda scooped it out into the pot. Oh man, so sweet and smooth with a sweet donut flavour.

My first thought was, “This doesn’t taste like glazed donuts at all!” I brewed it for 3 mins and then let it sit for 10 mins per the instructions. To me, it just tasted like another average black tea. I added a little sweetener and let it cool off even more.

When I returned to it, the cup was barely above room temperature. But it was tastier! Now I can see the parallel to glazed donuts. The vanilla is more pronounced once its cooler. The sweetener helps make it taste more like icing. It’s pretty good. I’ll definitely enjoy the rest of this one iced.

I think I need to realize that tea will never be as good as the original thing it’s inspired by. I always think, “Ooh donuts! I want a donut tea!” And then I’m disappointed that it tastes like tea. Silly me. So if you have reasonable expectations, then you will enjoy this tea. Just don’t expect it to magically transform into a hot gooey donut.

“And then I’m disappointed that it tastes like tea” lol- sounds silly but so true sometimes, especially for me with ‘hot chocolate’ type teas!

CHAroma

Ah, yes. Hot chocolate teas have gotten me before too.
