Tea of the Week for August 10, 2015!

I had originally planned to make this a “just because” special edition type of tea but one of the teas that I had planned on being the tea of the week for this week just didn’t work out that way, so I decided this would become the tea of the week for this week! And it’s a good one!

I really wanted another strawberry tea to help say goodbye to summer (and really, I’m so ready to say goodbye to the heat!) so I decided to create a tea inspired by a recipe I found somewhere out there in cyberspace – a Strawberry Tea Cake. This thing looked amazing – a loaf cake with lots of juicy strawberries baked in, and topped with a nutty, crumbly crust and then drizzled with a light glaze.

These flavors work very well with my black tea base – it’s robust and full-flavored. It tastes like a sweet breakfast-y treat!

Large size is 2 ounces.

Ingredients: Organic Black Teas, Organic Freeze-Dried Strawberries, Organic Vanilla Bean & Organic, All-Natural Flavors.

1 tsp. tea to 12 oz. boiling water. Steep 2 1/2 – 5 minutes. Allow tea to cool 10 minutes after brewing for best flavor.

Sipdown!

Although this leaf is ancient in tea life, I have relished this last cup of it with its super lovely base, hint of vanilla, and slight strawberry insinuation. Of course, I need more vanilla and more strawberry, but this is one fine cup of tea, regardless. I very much enjoyed having this, one of Anne’s early blends when she took over, in my stash.

And it’s a sipdown!

Sipdown 39.

And yes, I realize that I’ve mentioned sipdown three times in my post. Share my joy, will ya?

Thanks for the sample Evol Ving Ness!

I am always a sucker for a strawberry black tea. I like that it is good cold or hot!

The black tea base is smooth and a little bit malty, with hints of vanilla. I wish that the strawberry was a little more robust, but a decent tea. I will try it cold brewed next time I think

Sipdown!

I enjoyed this tea while it lasted, but the last few servings were just tea, with no strawberry bits. Vanilla-y, pastry-y, sweet, kinda malty.

However, I’m glad to have one less tea in my cupboard.

From Sil. :)

Not bad. Definitely get the cake flavours. And some vanilla. But the strawberry just isn’t quite there. I get a strawberry tea at Blenz (local cafe) that is really strawberry that I really like. And that’s what I hold all strawberry teas up to. Unfortunately, there’s not enough strawberry for me to mark this one as “love” on my spreadsheet. Just a “like”.

Christina / BooksandTea

I’m posting a review of this on Friday, but had the tea yesterday for my notes. When I taste and smell it, it reminds me of a strawberry-flavoured wafer – the pastry, the vanilla, the sugar, all that.

OMGsrsly

Huh. I can’t say I’ve ever had a strawberry flavoured wafer. Vanilla, yes. Chocolate, yes. But not strawberry…

Roswell Strange

Strawberry Wafers are so good! You need to treat your taste buds OMGsrsly!

OMGsrsly

Haha. :) I’ll have to see if I can find some gluten free strawberry wafers!

I loved this – it was so balanced, fruity and sweet and “baked”, and the tea base actually lended to the overall flavor instead of just being a vehicle for it.

TeaTiff

Oh sounds really yummy.

Delicious strawberry black tea. A subtle strawberry but i love the black tea base that is being used now. It just works so much better.

This Strawberry tea is lovely! It has a heavy strawberry flavour that is delicious and a lighter pastry/cake-like note that is so very good. I feel as if it resembles a Dammann Freres slightly. I will enjoy this one.

Ooh, I ordered a taster size of this. I’m looking forward to trying this, since I’ve never had 52Teas before.

TeaNTees

I find I am liking many more of their teas since the company has changed hands! :)

52Teas

@TeaNTees – you made me smile just now. Thank you.

TeaNTees

@52 Teas :) You’re quite welcome! I am also anxious to try the banana tieguanyin, but I missed out on it. I will try to get someone to swap me some, but do you happen to know if you might reblend it sometime in the future? Thank you Anne!

52Teas

I probably will reblend the banana TGY at some point, but I’m not able to offer you a definitive date just yet.

My number one priority at this point is to keep myself on track with the teas of the week and making sure that the subscription packages are going out in a timely manner. After that, I’m working to get myself all caught up with the Kickstarter campaign obligations – there are still quite a few requested reblends that people purchased through our start up Kickstarter that I need to fulfill as well as some VITs that will be released soon.

And of course, Christmas is coming so I’ll be very busy over the next month working on the Christmas teas and getting those packages out that were pre-ordered through the Kickstarter (which ends very soon!)

Once I get myself to a point where I’m caught up with the Kickstarter obligations, I’ll be able to start thinking about reblends. This is one that will be on the list.

TeaNTees

Thanks for the letting me know. I appreciate it!

I am continuing my strawberry tea week here. With occasional moments of lusting for the elusive perfect milk oolong.

This was one of my very favourites and maybe still is if I do not drink strawberry tea every single day like I have been doing.

If it were just based on today’s experience, having had four cups of this—two steepings times two, I would lower the rating a bit. I may have under leafed the first two cups. However, the second batch had strawberries and an appropriate amount of dry leaf. A note of cinnamon crept into my cups that I hadn’t noticed before. Or am I dreaming this up?

The tea just seemed less divine than it did before. The scent of my teacup is just as intoxicating as before. The taste is still good. It just, I don’t know, tastes less creamy than I remember it being. Less vanilla. Less strawberry than I remember.

What is up with that?

Indigobloom

I hate when that happens. Its rare that I find a tea which makes a consistent cup every time!

tigress_al

Boo for inconsistent tea :(
Mandala tea has a spectacular milk oolong IMO if you haven’t tried it yet!

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you for the milk oolong tip. And no, I haven’t tried it yet. I will put it on my shopping list, for when I allow myself to shop again.

No, I don’t think it is the tea’s fault. I think it might be that I have been drinking various strawberry teas over the past few days and now I seem to be inadvertently comparing rather than enjoying each one for what it is. Perhaps I have reached the end of my strawberry tea threshhold. Perhaps it is time to move on.

Evol Ving Ness

I think that when you drink a certain category of tea, strawberry here, you unconsciously develop some dream tea that you expect teas to conform to and then you get disappointed. Kind of like online dating.

Terri HarpLady

Expectations do usually lead to disappointments :)

ashmanra

Marco Polo strawberry by Mariages Freres could be DELICIOUS or bitter. It was hard to get right for me. Anna’s Bland from Tin Roof Teas (probably from TeaGeschwender ultimately) was the first strawberry tea that is consistently delicious and forgiving.

Evol Ving Ness

Thank you for the tips. I’ve put them on my list.

Evol Ving Ness

Never enough strawberry teas. :)

Apparently.
