ummmmm yeah!! I’m packing up the house tonight, so that we can reno. So… I needed some tea! and I’ve been trying to drink down my sample stash. I think it was Jenn who gave this to me? big thank you! though I haven’t seen ya in awhile… hope yer still around :)
Anyhow, I can seriously taste upside-down pineapple cake! this is SO good. Pineapple… yup. Cake… yup yup! oh mann this is great.
Now, I’m not sure I’d repurchase this because I always seem to be in possession of one fruity tea or another and knowing me I’d never finish of the packet. There are times when nothing but a fruity green will do, ya see… like today. I had a serious hankering. So, while I am in love with this, and it is super unique, I can do without. But it’s on my “to be seriously consider” list! Frank, you are a potion master <3

Bonnie

Hahaha! At first I thought you were going to RENO as in NEVADA! (well hey West Coast) .
I forgot about the reno-VATE! Duh!

Indigobloom

lol I’ve never been, but it sounds like fun!! better than packing, for sure ;)

Bonnie

If we have a Steepster Meet-up I have a timeshare in lots of places! Vegas, Seattle, Wine Country, CA….would be crazy!

Indigobloom

oh my that would be SO much fun :P

Bonnie

We’d get arrested in Vegas for being Tea Drunk!

Indigobloom

pffft, nah we’d invite the officers for tea! heheee

Vortegne

Oh, pineapple. My favorite fruit :D

Indigobloom

Vortegne: I recommend this one then, no question there I think you’d love it!

sigh So I totally burned my lunch (a grilled cheese sandwich). So back to tea then! I haven’t mentioned this, but my tea shelves are a mess. A total black hole of piles of assorted bags, near empty jars, and just not fun to look at. Maybe that’s why I have been drinking less tea lately. But this is the very last of this tea! I got this in a contest, and like I’ve mentioned, it may have not been stored in the best way possible. So although it smells quite nice, the flavor really isn’t there.
There are lots of buttery notes in this one and it is the predominate flavor in this cuppa. Besides that I get lots of sweet, green tea flavor which is really good. Other than that I don’t have a lot to say about this one and I don’t think that it is fair for me to rate the tea off of the sample I was given.

gmathis

I have a black hole basket like that myself…but isn’t it fun when you reach in and pull out something you haven’t seen for a while? Kind of like an unexpected birthday.

Tamm

Oh totally agreed! I found the last, sad little bit of one of my favorite teas (it’s discontinued); so finding that was a joy! I think that I’m going to try and finish off quite a few teas in the coming weeks so I can have it a bit more organized.

I’m really the first to log this? Wow!

This is really good. If you like the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Honeybush from 52Teas, you’ll like this one too. I think I might even like this one better than the Honeybush, because the buttery green tea goes so well with the cake-y taste of the tea.

YUM YUM YUM!

Jenn

I have this one but I’ve yet to try it. I forgot all about it! Thanks for the reminder :)

Pineapple Upside Down Cake Green – 52Teas – 2/5/14
2 minutes, 175 degrees

Sugar at the bottom, I definitely get cake. Buttery cake. Not quite in mouthfeel but definitely in taste. When I stir the sugar up, the pineapple starts showing through, though faintly. As it cools the base starts getting a lot more prominent and it’s definitely not my favourite green tea. Chinese Sencha? Isn’t sencha Japanese? Anyway, pleasant to try, would not order if it were reblended by Frank.

Don’t you hate it at work when the customer comes around and stuff doesn’t match like it should and you investigate and are like ‘yep, sent you the wrong thing, sorry’. I hate that. That’s what happened to me this morning. I’ve already put together the revised thing because a revision c of this particular thing is going out soon anyway but it’s embarrassing.

I’ve been avoiding this tea for a while. Not sure why, just haven’t been in the mood. I tried it once after I bought it, and I dunno… the flavors just didn’t quite sit right. I think this tea and I are a better fit now. We’re both a little older, more experienced… xD

The pineapple flavor has definitely mellowed since it was fresh out of the package. It’s very light now, and the cake-y flavor can come out more. I like how somehow there’s also that hint of caramelized cherry in there. I don’t think it’s my imagination, either.

I tried it sweetened and unsweetened this morning, and I like both! The fruit and cake flavors do come out more in the sweetened one, but that’s to be expected. I’ll know to go unsweetened when I’m looking for mostly green tea flavor with a hint of fruit and flavoring.

Overall, this tea is perhaps not for everyone, especially not if you are not fond of pineapple. The sencha is pretty good quality, and the pineapple does not take over everything else, like I’ve seen it do in other teas. Probably won’t restock this one, but hey, then I can move on to some of the other teas on my wish list… :D

I decided to try this one from the Traveling Teabox b. I’m starting to pack the box back up with the teas I’ve already tried and the ones I’ve been adding so hopefully I’ll get it out sometime this week!
Hmm…The vegetal and buttery green is more dominant over any other flavor. I’m not really getting any cake.. and the pineapple in in the aftertaste. It’s ok. Lacking in flavor to be honest :\
