Tea of the Week for February 6, 2023!

Inspired by the cocktail of the same name, this is a blend of black teas (Nilgiri, assam, yunnan & ceylon), strawberries, spearmint & lime wedges. It’s lighter & crisper than most of my black tea blends thanks to the inclusion of the Nilgiri & it’s a really nice balance of the flavor profiles here – I taste the sweetness of the strawberry, the cooling notes of the spearmint, the brightness of the lime & the sparkling, grape-y notes of the champagne. It all comes together in a very pleasing way -a medley of flavors – with no one note overwhelming the others.

It’s also vegan, gluten-free, allergen-free, non-alcoholic, organic & all natural!

organic ingredients: black teas, strawberries, limes, spearmint leaves & natural flavors

more about this tea: When I’m looking for ‘fresh’ ideas for my tea blends (blending no less than 52 blends every year does sometimes feel a little overwhelming & I do feel that pressure at times) – I often search the web for interesting recipes. That’s how I came up with the idea for this blend – it’s inspired by the Strawberry Fizzy cocktail – a champagne beverage with strawberries, lime & mint.

When I read through the recipe, I couldn’t help but think it would be a really nice blend for Valentines Day (Fail! Yes, I know I’m a bit behind on that) but also a really tasty springtime drink. (Win! Not behind! Yes!) And it does! This makes a stunning cuppa – especially nice when cold brewed!

to brew: shake the pouch well before measuring to ensure ingredients are well incorporated. Use 3g of leaf to 12 oz of very hot water (195°F) & steep for 3 minutes. Strain & allow to cool for 5 – 10 minutes. Enjoy!

Serving suggestions: I LOVE this one cold-brewed! I highly recommend it cold brewed. It’s also quite nice served hot. When hot brewing, do not bring the water to a boil – it should be a bit lower in temperature than your standard water temp for a black tea because this is a blend with Nilgiri tea & it just tastes better when you steep with water that’s not quite boiling. Tasty without sweetener, but I find that with a teensy bit of sugar (less than ½ a teaspoon) – the flavors pop just a little more than served without sweetener.

AJRimmer Advent Day 9

My husband and I split a small pot of this on Saturday. Neither of us picked up on much strawberry flavor, but we enjoyed the mix of spearmint and lime over a very smooth, light black tea base!

I drank this sweetened cold. I definitely taste the strawberry, along with some gentle little ingredients that make it somewhat reminiscent of bubbles. I prefer a heftier black tea, so this isn’t my favorite. It feels almost weak or thin. However, I do feel like this flavor would be fantastic on a green rooibos base or maybe as a green tea.

We love strawberry teas in this house so this is one I really had to try. I drank it all by myself so I can’t give Ashman’s opinion on it.

The base is fairly light and the strawberry flavor is airy. Thankfully this one doesn’t smell like butyric acid, which puts me off of a lot of strawberry teas. It is fresh and crisp. I tried it hot and plain, hot and sweetened, and cold and sweetened. My favorite way may have been hot and lightly sweetened, although all three ways were good.

Cold and sweet brought out the lime flavor a bit more and that was nice. I was thankful that the mint was barely noticeable, because I really didn’t want it to take over the tea.

This isn’t hefty enough to serve as a breakfast tea for most people in my opinion, but is a lovely afternoon tea.

This is a tea from February. I was inspired by the cocktail – which I’ve never actually tried, but I found a recipe for it & it sounded tasty. It sounded like it would make a tasty tea – so I decided to use the recipe for inspiration and craft a tea. Did I manage to recreate the cocktail but in tea form? I don’t know because – as I said – I’ve never tried it, but I do like what I’m tasting.

I cold-brewed this overnight & it’s so good. The flavor is primarily grape-y champagne (don’t worry, it’s non-alcoholic) but there’s a nice note of lime & strawberry. The spearmint adds a bit of crispness to the overall tea without adding a strong minty presence. Really nice.

I am excited about trying this one! It will be here soon!

I was not really sure how it would turn out until I tried it – but I am really happy with it. It’s a nice “spring” tea.
