6768 Tasting Notes

I can’t believe I am the first one to log this tea! :)

This is delightful! It’s light but flavorful…in a juicy sort of way! It sort of reminds me of buttered zucchini – I suppose – more zuke than butter tho! Or maybe summer squash??? Not sure…

It’s very airy and crisp too! I like it!

I received a sample of this one – which was much appreciated – but it was barely enough for a cup…regardless I’m overjoyed I got to try it!

Everything about this was mellow…the fruit, the floral, the nuts, the white tea…everything! Honestly I didn’t even know it had nuts in it until I saw it in the description. It’s a bit juicy and the flowers and fruity are even-steven to create a flavor all of it’s own. there really isn’t a specific/individual ingredient that is identifiable, tho.

This tastes fine. I wish it were stronger, tho. It is pleasant and has potential.

LiberTEAS

Yes, I think that is what has kept me from trying it, is that I can’t steep it as I normally would (aka Breville) so, I’ve been putting it off until I feel like getting out one of my smaller tea pots to brew it in. Perhaps I shall do that this week.

I’m so excited to try the newest offering of perfumed teas from Afterlier as I have enjoyed their previous offerings!

DRY – this smelled like: Mandarin Oranges, Balsam, Grapes, and Charcoal.
While Infusing – smelled like Balsam and charcoal

It infuses to a light brown/orange.

Post infusion it mostly smells like Balsam – roasty and masculine!

The taste is very different from the aroma! It tastes like mandarin then Balsam but you can still taste the proof that it’s an oolong! Fits the description to a TEA. The end sip has a hint of charcoal.

This is really great!

My favorite part is the mandarin notes! Not enough companies do mandarin pairings or flavorings in their teas and the ones you do (for the most part) should take notes from this company!

A delight!

I totally agree with David – this tea is a SHAPE-SHIFTER – Oddly enough I have been on an X-Files kick and rewatching the series on netflix so this term makes me chuckle…but it’s funny because it’s true (Will & Grace’s Karen reference there!)

Anyhow…Infusion 3…

Not as woodsy and not nearly as grassy. it’s back to being a bit fruity but not apple…maybe a little citrus tho. I can also pick up a little vegetal taste – maybe peas…but a fresh sweet pea or snow or snap pea but certainly the sweet kind!

I can’t really say which infusion I like over the others because they are so different from each other and offer completely different tastes in each.

Because of that…I am upping the rating of this tea! This is certainly a FUN one…complex and QUALITY tea!

Uniquity

Huzzah for an X-Files kick! I own all the seasons on DVD and have watched the whole thing through 2 or 3 times, at least.

TeaEqualsBliss

We are half way thru the last season right now :)

TheTeaFairy

This tea sounds intriguing, that’s for sure…but could it be more intriguing than some X-Files episodes??? So funny, I thought I was the only dork (oops, no offense) who had find nothing better to do during the holiday break than watch some old x-files on Netflix!!! I did not realize how much I had missed Scully & Mulder…and the Cigarette Smoking Man..and the Lone Gunmen!!!

TeaEqualsBliss

:)
That’s awesome! Your comment totally made my day! LOL

Uniquity

Oh, The Lone Gunmen…

TeaEqualsBliss

esp the short one! LOL

LiberTEAS

Watch FRINGE! FRINGE is the new X-Files. I love Walter Bishop… and his son isn’t so bad either. :)

TeaEqualsBliss

@LiberTEAS!!!! Fringe is Great, too! John Nobel (Walter Bishop) is an amazing actor!!!!!!

TeaEqualsBliss

sorry spelled Noble incorrectly above :)

LiberTEAS

He is an amazing actor. I was astonished the first time I saw him in an interview with an Australian accent … but then, I am still mystified by Hugh Laurie, Simon Baker, and Anne Torv (also on Fringe!) It amazes me how well they conquer our accent with such grace and ease … I certainly couldn’t pull off an English or Australian accent as well as they pull off sounding “American.” (My apologies in advance for those not from the US but from “America” who do not have our “accent.” I do not mean to imply that ours is exclusively entitled to the “American” title.)

K S

Fellow Fringe fans! Awesome! We loved X-files as well. Tea folks must be natural born nerds. LOL. That’s what they tell me at work anyway.

TeaEqualsBliss

Oh! For sure! Sci-Fi Nerds – all the way! :)

Since Verdant said you can get 20-25 infusions on this tea I wanted to do at least 2 infusions as part of my infusion test – and was considering moving on to my next tea after the 2nd – but after the first sip of my second infusion I will be doing a 3rd infusion for sure!

2nd infusion…
THIS IS Morph-a-riffic!
Totally unexpected! The overall taste is more intense – more strong – than the first! The notes have changed and here is what I taste this time around…

It’s a sweet wood and a bit grassy tasting – not overly identifiable as apple like in the first infusion but I am picking up something reminiscent of…peas, perhaps, and a peppery flavor that is surprising and neat at the same time!

Looking forward to the 3rd infusion…

I think I am going to do an infusion test with this one today…

My first impressions of the LOOKS of this tea DRY was that if Oolongs were to have a Needle – this would be it! Many of us have seen Silver Needle Teas before – for example – and have appreciated how the leaves look all straight-arrowed and standing strong! I guess the only difference in the “looks” would be there isn’t that fuzziness to it. These leaves are very dry and very strong they are on the verge of being wiry but haven’t quite gotten there yet. Like I said – or should I say – rambled about – it’s just the first impression that I got looking at these leaves dry – don’t take me literally, I guess! LOL

Anyhow…

1st infusion…
VERY nice experience! The flavor is nice and even…it’s that of a sweet wood and apple. Not actual apple flavoring – but natural apple notes are what my tongue picked up! I can also taste natural citrusy notes as it cools at room temperature a bit. This is really nice!

Thanks Liberteas for a packet of this one!

Dry Aroma:
As my grandfather used to say…“Makes the nose hairs DANCE”. The chai spices are INTENSE!!!!!

It’s quite interesting to look at! Lots of ingredients! I didn’t see any green sprinkles but I have orange and black character sugar-sprinkles.

This infuses to a very odd color…a black cloudy DARK color…I’m thinking the cloudy is due to the spices AND the sprinkle-candies.

Once infused the aroma does change quite a bit! It’s a pumpkin-candy-spice-earthy-mixture of aromas!

My first sip – I had no idea what to expect! Glad I didn’t assume or prejudge!

The spices are the first thing (and the last thing) I taste and they are strong but not as CRAZY INTENSE as the dry aroma led me to believe they were going to be. Appreciated! Then…comes the pumpkin! It’s a squashy-meaty type pumpkin like in soup or stuffed squash – very natural tasting…not sweet per-say but almost malty or maybe velvety would be a better word. In the middle of the sip I could taste the candy-notes but it fades away and the spice and pumpkin pop back into play! This is very interesting. Pretty strong but I like that! I recognize the fact that a lot of creativeness went into this one! It’s a fun one, indeed!

Pretty tasty! I wasn’t sure what the aftertaste would be like but after almost a whole cup it’s quite nice…nothing funky lingers…perhaps some of the spices like ginger…but the aftertaste is much better than I expected.

Ninavampi

I love the idea of making “nose hairs dance” I think I will smile all morning thinking of that! : )

TeaEqualsBliss

LOL – My grandfather used to say that if something was super spicy OR if it was tremendously cold outside!!! hahahaha!

I just received this months Tea Club package and there are three offerings from PT Harendong and I am very excited!

This is the first of three I am trying!
It’s the RED Tea…or…BLACK Tea in other words (in the US)

The look of this tea – dry – is as earthy and natural looking as you can get because it has the leaves, and a few visible twig-like textures and other tea-related limbs for lack of better words at the moment. The visual that was rather shocking for me with this tea is that it resembled an oolong but with darker leaves! The way it was rolled, for example, looked a lot like an ali shan. VERY COOL!!!!

It infuses to a medium brown.

It’s fairly bready and sweet. It’s malty! It has a VERY slight cocoa or chocolate type taste in the middle of the sip, too! This is a neat tea!

Unlike any other Red Tea (Black Tea) I have EVER had! This is a conversation tea that is for sure! I like it VERY much!!!!

This is my first Happy Earth Tea TEA…I’m very excited…totally LOVE the company name! I will say that I have been emailing the company owner back and forth and they are lovely to deal with!

This smells a bit bakey or croissant-like…I really love the scent! That smell paired with the naturally fruity nose makes a unique and wonderful pairing!

WOW! This is a very flavorful – very sturdy Darjeeling! It has characteristics of darjeeling but it offers so much more! It also tastes VERY malty – YAY – and naturally fruity-goodness plows thru! It has a unique sweetness to it and is rather smooth on the end sip on to the aftertaste!

This is marvelous! I REALLY love this!

Kristin sent me some of this lil gem and I LOVE IT! It’s sweet and apple-Y and a bit of spice with lovely pecan notes! to sum it up but here are some additional notes on what’s going on here…

This smells really awesome! It’s like a warm appletini with pecans or maybe a creative hot toddy or hot “adult beverage” of sorts!

The apple is done perfectly for my palate! There is a bit of spice but not over the top – which to my palate and preferences is perfect as well! I really LOVE the pecan…it just might be my fave part – paired with the apple that is! There are nice hints of sugar, too, just enough to give it a POP.

This is wonderfully flavored!

rmark25

what’s the “cinnamon factor”? I’m a cinnamon fan, but tend to think it’s OVER used, especially the wrong type of cinnamon. I prefer low doses

TeaEqualsBliss

I totally know what you mean! I agree! This cinnamon is quite subtle in MHO…my palate liked it was mellower. :) – Hope that helps :)

rmark25

It does, thank you :)

Kristin

Now I’m wanting to go in the kitchen and make some of this!
