Mastress Alita’s January sipdown challenge Tea #6: A tea with bean notes

So I might be cheating here in two ways – my brain doesn’t usually associate tea with bean flavors, so I say it’s VANILLA BEAN. And the second way I’m cheating — since I didn’t have any vanilla teas that were close to sipdowns, I thought I would allow myself one pass a month to count one challenge tea as NOT an official sipdown, as long as it was the oldest of that type I am drinking and counting for the challenge – so for example, my oldest vanilla tea and not something newer. This is the oldest vanilla I have. Not quite a sipdown yet, but I’ll get there.

Well played :)

Good job! Wow, that sounds like a good one, 97!

Mastress Alita

I also drank a vanilla tea for this one. I already sipped down all my Chinese greens (which always taste like beans to me).

Also, the challenge just says “drink a tea”… nowhere does it indicate that it MUST be a sipdown. Every cup is still progress towards a (eventual) sipdown. :-)

For the prompts last year none of the teas I drank for were sipdown notes. This year I decided to only check off applicable teas I manage to finish off (so far) – but that’s because I want an extra challenge right now. :)

Mastress Alita – I probably haven’t made it far enough in the tasting notes yet to see you also chose a vanilla tea. And I’m in the same boat as CrowKettle – last year they didn’t need to be finished teas, but this year I like the challenge. :D

And using the Mastress Alita ingredient search, I think this tea is this one – even has the same description: http://www.dethlefsen-balk.us/ENU/15930/Item.aspx?FromNo=15908&ItemNo=22421 Maybe my opinion on a new version wouldn’t be 97 though..

My icon photo is Richard Mayhew from the graphic novel ‘Neverwhere’ by Neil Gaiman, Mike Carey & Glenn Fabry.

Most of the teas listed in my cupboard are actually sample sizes. I don’t really have 2,000 ounces of tea around here! Many of my teas have only one teaspoon left… maybe two. But I like keeping them in my cupboard list for reference to what I could be sipping. Usually, I write tasting notes once for each tea. I’m still drinking them, just not writing tasting notes each time!

I’m always in search of: Hattialli, Qu Hao black, Jin Jun Mei, teas using marshmallow root.

My dislikes: hibiscus, ginger (unless in chai), turmeric, bee pollen, charcoal type flavors

My ratings:
95-100 – Super awesome deliciousness favorites – cupboard essential
80-95 – Also pretty delicious
65-80 – Pretty good
50-65 – Okay
1-50 – Probably won’t want to sip it again

I’m planning on being a Steepsterer as long as there IS a Steepster, so if you’re not hearing from me, that means something happened to my health… if you know what I mean. (Or as evidenced by the great computer hiatus of 2019, something happened to my computer… I have a dumb phone so can’t access internet on that. As of 12/20/21 my wifi might start getting unreliable.)

Happy sipping!
