Enjoyed a late evening bowl 11/30/2020 at around 8pm -11pm.
Used purple haze CBD in tandem.
The pair inspired an energetic evening of productivity and efficient decision making. Tasks were completed and tools cleaned up afterwards.
This is a very nice session to recall later when wanting a task driven session.

Well happy birthday to you and welcome to Steepster :) I enjoyed a previous iteration of this tea enough to buy a whole cake.

Thank you! I’m hoping that being more international about noting my thoughts that I’ll better realize my preferences. Thank you for the note!

8 grams in Hawaii pot, boiling water

S1
A bit longer a steep than S1 yesterday. A much nicer intro.

S2 Bringing in some CBD and watching F1 practice 1 at Bahrain.

S3 steeped a bit longer than have been at this stage. Cashews to settle stomach.

S5
S6 – this tea may be best as a sidekick – or I’ve been too distracted lately.

5am Thanksgiving Day.
Boil, 250ml Hawaii pot filled 3/4, white bowl, 8 grams.
Enjoying purple haze CBD in addition.
S1
Nothing terribly notable, no rinse and first steep was quick and thin.
S2
S3
Pushed this steeping much longer. Listening to “Ghosteen” for first time. Reminded me to get back into the band Swans. A few cashews to ward off upset, empty stomach. Changed music to “The Seer”
S4
Feeling encouraged to go do something productive. I need to plan some coffee roasts.

Steeped many more times.

Drank in afternoon while mostly distracted.

Bowl Tea 2 grams in 200ml bowl. Briefly cooled boiled water in pitcher.
Using CBD together.

Bowl 1.
I smell lightly roasted green beans or broccoli on the bowl. Hints of buttered popcorn.
Slight astringency at bottom of first bowl.
Terrific first impression on aroma and experience.

Second Bowl.
leaves unraveling to reveal small, often broken leaves. Tongue is coated similar to honey water or EVOO.
Mouth is left with cooling sensation on completion of second bowl. Feeling energy rising.

Third bowl.
Bright. Still thick on tongue.

B4.
much more brief cool down in pitcher. Will plan to pour direct from kettle next bowl. Turning on some music now.
Landed on first listening of The Jesus Record by Rich Mullins. Surprise flute. Nice piano and violin – bring way to orchestra. Distracted by soundstage, started researching how audio engineers area able to pan music to both sides of soundstage. Stumbled onto Paolo Nutini – Scream. Instant Favorite.

B5
Tougue is slightly numb with sweetness cutting through.

Profile

Bio

I enjoy tea and music.

I am specifically exploring the personal storage and aging of puerh tea. I also enjoy exploring the diversity of oolong, red tea and green tea.
For 10 years I tended to overcomplicate tea consumption and just now have started simplifying, or at least, have been reprioritizing my efforts. My focus has shifted to recognizing how a tea makes me feel instead of its flavor/aroma. I’m not very good at classifying taste and smell anyway (chuckle). My aim on Steepster (currently) is to prevent my experiences from being lost to my forgetful mind.

Equipment and methods:
Hawaii Pot – my favorite clay pot for indulgent sessions of raw puerh. Capacity: 250 ml. Simple design, tight fitting lid. When paired with White Bowl during solo session, I fill about 3/4 way.
White Bowl – glazed clay bowl, 175 ml.
Kettle – 2L clay kettle, typically fired on an electric coil burner. Set to hold just under boil – probably about 200 degrees F.
Storage – I use an old wooden desk with drawers to store and age some teas. Notably, one drawer is for short term. I try holding this to 70 degrees F and 60-70% RH. This drawer offers easy access to puerh samples being prepared for tasting. Most morning sessions will draw from this drawer. I also have long term raw puerh storage that hold solid at 65% RH and a ripe puerh storage that holds at about 70% RH. I’m using wetted clay pebbles to help maintain RH levels. Room temp is generally conditioned to 70 degrees F and humidity is about 50% RH.

Tea rating interpretation:
95 – Medicinal and notably pleasant
85 – Medicinal
75 – Notably pleasant
65 – Unremarkably pleasant
55 – I wouldn’t gift
45 – I wouldn’t purchase
35 – I wouldn’t drink again
25 – Yuk
