2172 Tasting Notes
Still working through some of our open teas that I haven’t tried yet – only ten or so herbals to go. After this, I think I’ll try to start sipping down most of my older stuff. Maybe get my cupboard to a more reasonable amount, date-wise. Say three years max? It’s a goal to work on at least.
This blend is an herbal that’s been on my list for a while. We picked it up on a weekend trip to Georgia last year. I can taste the lavender, but I also taste chamomile which is weird because I don’t think it’s on the ingredient list. Maybe I just associate all herbals with chamomile now, I don’t know. It’s not something I would crave, but it might make a good tea for nighttime. My husband will probably love it.
Flavors: Chamomile, Lavender
Preparation
In honor of today’s sipdown theme – St. Patrick’s Day. This was a letdown, honestly. I haven’t found too many Stash teas I really love. This one just didn’t have much flavor at all. For something that has “Super” in the title, I was expecting it to knock me over.
Preparation
Third coconut tea of the day. I don’t usually taste much when it comes to white tea, but this one is flavorful. I can’t say I’m getting all the flavors in the description, but I do taste something. Ginger is the primary experience here. And the coconut still isn’t rancid!
Flavors: Ginger
Moving on to the next oldest coconut tea on my list – DT’s Toasted Walnut. I’m relatively sure this one was discontinued years ago. I bought it in October 2015 so it’s pretty old. It’s been opened, unlike my last coconut tea, and I can almost imagine a faint smell of soap coming from inside of the bag. Let’s be honest – I’m probably not imagining it, though when I had this same blend 8 months ago it didn’t taste bad at all.
After steeping, the liquid is cloudy with flecks of tea floating on top – I used my least favorite filter today and it obviously didn’t hold everything in. Exactly why it’s my least favorite. The final cup looks really unappetizing. The taste is astringent and bitter and there is that faint hint of soap in the background. It’s not really powerful or overwhelming, but it’s definitely there. This one was never a favorite, and I think it’s finally time to toss it from the cupboard. Can’t say I’m too sad about it.
Preparation
Interesting. This is one of my all-time favorite teas ( bought like 12 large pre-packed tins when they discontinued it in 2019?). I don’t think I realized it has coconut in it…
If it makes you feel any better, I had forgotten about mine for a few years and when I opened it several months ago it was still just fine. I’m guessing after being opened the second time I must have let some air in and the coconut turned on me over these past few months. If you still have some sealed packages, hopefully they are still good! If so, maybe just drink them quickly after they are opened. Hopefully they’ll keep.
My oldest coconut tea in honor of National Coconut Torte Day. I bought a box of these teabags at a little spice shop in Nassau in August 2015. How is the coconut holding up? Not bad, actually. The teabags are individually sealed – I’m guessing that might be the reason these are still drinkable after all this time. There was some leftover water in the kettle from my husband’s tea this morning, so I accidentally added more to my cup than I typically would have. As a result, it’s tasting a bit watered down. The rum is the strongest aroma and I’m enjoying it, but I don’t necessarily taste coconut. It does have a tropical feel to it though. I do think this deserves better than the 62 rating I gave it previously, so I’m upping it a bit to 68. I bet it would be really good with less water and/or a second teabag.
Flavors: Drying, Rum, Tropical
Preparation
I don’t drink this one often, probably because I tend to forget about my teabags, but I enjoy it when I do. It tastes and smells like caramel, as it should. I can also smell the black tea base after steeping, but I can’t really taste it. The caffeine is getting to me, so I’ll probably switch to herbals after this. Even though it’s still only 10:30 in the morning. It likely has something to do with the Excedrin I took earlier too. I forget sometimes about the caffeine in those.
Flavors: Astringent, Caramel
Good luck on your goal!
Thank you!
