drank Earl Grey by Fields & Selects

This one is very pungent with the smell of bergamot. It’s almost a cleaning solution, citrus-type smell. The taste is the same. It’s much better than I remember before, but it still tastes a lot like soap.

I still have a few bags of Fields & Selects tea that we had leftover from our cruise last month. I wasn’t too happy with the Earl Grey I tried on the ship, but I only had sugar (no honey) and non-dairy creamer to work with. Yuck. Here’s hoping these will be better at home.

The tea smells fresh enough before steeping. There is a nice, light aroma. While steeping, it reminds me of Lipton or something I might use for sweet iced tea. I like Lipton so I may find this to be enjoyable as well. The tea bag is mostly made up of little particles of tea so I won’t try steeping this again. I’m actually pretty impressed, or pleasantly surprised anyway, with the flavor of this tea. It’s not bad at all!

I added cream to this one as I do most black teas. It’s similar to my favorite rose tea – Valley of the Heart’s Delight by Satori Teas – but not quite as good.

I’m actually kind of surprised – this really does taste like there is a splash of rum in here! We bought this tea and a couple of others in Nassau during our cruise last month.

This is incredibly comforting simply in the fact that it is a warm mug to hold between my hands. This is my first day back to work after a crazy and stressful week. It’s so nice to be back into a normal routine, somewhat.

This tea is one we bought on our recent trip to the Bahamas. My husband loves herbal teas and picked this one up right away. Oddly enough, the smell reminds me of strawberry jello but there is also a spice to it that is nice.

Flavors: Artificial, Cinnamon, Hibiscus, Strawberry

drank Pineapple Sencha by Den's Tea
2170 tasting notes

Good morning everyone!

I made a cup of this one yesterday but let it steep far too long so the resulting brew was intolerably bitter. I took two sips and poured the rest down the sink.

Today, I was a bit more careful and let the water cool down for a good 4 minutes and let the tea steep for only 3 minutes. The first thing I noticed was a buttery aroma rising from the cup. It wasn’t savory but more of a sweet cream butter flavor. The tea liquid tastes and smells of pineapple, but even with the shorter steep and cooler temp it still tastes a little bitter.

I was really excited about this one after reading such great reviews here, but I’m just not too impressed after having tried it. Maybe I’ll try steeping this a few different ways in the future to see if I can find a way to enjoy it.

Flavors: Bitter, Butter, Pineapple

Butter and pineapple sound good, but bitter, not so much. Maybe try steeping it differently, like you said.

It’s been a long day, and all I’ve really wanted to is to sit down with this cup of tea. It’s fruity and sweet and lusciously creamy. I can’t imagine anything better right now. I think I’ll have another.

Flavors: Dried Fruit, Fruity, Strawberry

This is one of the few Teavana teas I actually like.

I love this one. If they ever discontinue it, I’ll be so upset. There’s just something about the berry and black tea combo that I love.

I agree.

Bio

Lifetime student. Lover of books and paper and ink. Kitchen dweller. Aspiring herbalist, excessively proud cat lady, and tea fanatic. Thirty-something elder millennial. She/her.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Favorites
Any and all black teas, smoky teas, raspberry, strawberry, red fruits, bergamot, chai spices, floral teas, caramel/toffee, jasmine, rose, vanilla, peaches, plums, valerian root, cinnamon, cardamom

Not a huge fan
White teas, green teas, artificial sweeteners, sarsaparilla, licorice, lemongrass, lavender, hot hibiscus, hibiscus in black tea blends

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
