This is so much better than I remember! It’s a little smoky with lots of clove. To be honest, I normally avoid this one. It’s just been bumping around in the tea cabinet for the last few years. I found it during my recent clean out and decided to go ahead and drink it down. What a surprise that I actually really like it! I must have botched the steep the last time around because I remember it being just really terrible. So glad that has changed!

drank Earl Grey Green by Bigelow
2170 tasting notes

A coworker gave me a bag of this after we had a conversation about green tea. He is drinking lots of green tea lately for the health benefits. I’m not a fan, but I do love Earl Grey so when he found this green tea version he brought some to work for us to try. The bergamot is very fragrant, but I drowned out the flavor with too much honey. I ended up dumping the cup. I would try it again, but I’m still not sure I’d like it.

drank Forever Nuts by DAVIDsTEA
2170 tasting notes

I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed this here before, as this is the last of my bag of Forever Nuts. Finishing it off as a latte with almond milk and nutmeg on top. I didn’t sweeten it as much as I would have liked, just relied on the almond milk instead of extra honey, but it’s still a nice and warming cup. I honestly think my favorite thing about this tea is the way it turns pink when I add the milk. It’s just such a perfect drink for the fall months.

I used this recipe as a guide for my latte, from this great tea blog I just found – http://www.beginningwithbergamot.com/home/pink-almond-tea-latte.

drank Know by Heart by August Uncommon Tea
2170 tasting notes

I mostly followed the instructions on this one.

What a lovely blend – all mauve pinks and moss greens with some earthy brown twigs thrown in for good measure. It reminds me of spring. The dry tea is fruity and candy sweet. One steeped, there is the slightest bitterness. I can taste the almonds. It reminds me of an herbal tea. My husband loves it so that must be right (he only drinks herbals these days). Overall, it’s good but not one I would reach for on a regular basis.

Thanks, amandastory516, for sending this one!

I’m so guilty. I never (or almost never) follow the steeping instructions listed on a bag of tea. I have found a few things that seem to work and I’m such a creature of habit that I never want to try something different. This tea is no exception. It recommends a half teaspoon of leaves steeped in boiling water for 3 minutes. That didn’t happen. In fact, I goofed on this one completely, adding too much water and not enough leaf.

Just to make a quick note about the leaves – they are beautiful. Golden yellow, fuzzy, soft, fluffy. Really so nice. As I mentioned, I botched this cup so it is very light in color and in flavor. I’ll have to give this one another try later.

This tea blend is really beautiful – lots of lemongrass and rosebuds and flower petals. The smell is unmistakably floral, with cocoa notes in the background. I can’t say I’d pick up on them if I didn’t know there were cocoa shells in this though. I thought the mix of lemongrass and chocolate was interesting, but I love rose teas and chocolate too so I was glad that amandastory516 was able to share some of this with me. Also, I’ve been wanting to try something from Bird & Blend Tea Co. for the longest time! So glad to finally have the opportunity thanks to tea friends.

The primary flavor I noticed before sweetening is lemongrass. Adding a bit of honey doesn’t change this, but I do enjoy it more with the honey. My husband loves herbals more than anything, and I really think he would like this one. I only like tisanes in the evening usually, and I have to say that this is one I would drink again. It has flavor, it’s not watered down, and I keep reaching again and again for my cup. I do wish I could taste the rose more though, since that’s my favorite part about this blend.

Possibly my last caffeinated tea for the day so I wanted to make it a good one. There are giant blueberries in the mix, plus long and twisty leaves. It’s a beautiful blend really. I steeped like I normally would for a black tea – cool for one minute, steep for seven. I’m drinking this with almond milk, but unfortunately I’ve added too much – the flavor is too light. I’ll try this one again, with a splash of cream instead, and will hold my rating until then. I think this is probably amazing when done right.

I finished up an overdue tea cabinet re-org a week or two ago, and in doing so came across several teas that had gotten shuffled to the back of the cabinet. Several of my Joseph Wesley teas were in the mix. This one has a lovely aroma – my favorite for a black tea – sweet, dark chocolate. This didn’t translate as well into the cup of tea after steeping, but there was a nice malty flavor I still enjoyed. Not as incredibly delicious as their Classic Chinese, but still a satisfying cup.

Side note – I really hope Joseph Wesley isn’t gone forever! Their teas are so good!

drank Wild Black Yunnan by DAVIDsTEA

I was looking through my tea cabinet to find Nepal Black from DAVIDsTEA and came across this one first. I decided to try it instead to see if I could distinguish the different flavors between the two. They definitely both have the same chocolate notes. To be honest, now that I’ve finished my cup, I can’t tell the difference. What am I missing?

I’ve only been drinking green teas the last few days so it’s really exciting to bring out the black teas today. Starting with this one, which I haven’t had in a bit. The smell is chocolate, the leaves are beautifully twisted. I accidentally oversteeped (got distracted at work), but even so this has such a lovely flavor. No bitterness as I was expecting. I’m tasting chocolate and, surprisingly, marshmallow! I’m having this with some homemade almond milk that my brother made and it’s really nice.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
