1233 Tasting Notes
My first two tries with this tea were failures. My problem? I didn’t rinse the leaves. Its amazing how much of a difference that makes!
1st steep. Vegetal flavors. Nothing milky. Kinda more of a green then an oolong. Also some hay and grass notes.
2nd steep. Getting smoother. Still more vegetal though.
3rd steep. Bam! Nice and silky. Milk qualities and flavors coming out. If it wasn’t 10pm I would keep going but I want to sleep tonight.
Preparation
Red Leaf how do you make it smell so good?! The color of the matcha tells me its a bit of a lower grade. Going to do my usual where I’ll mix the matcha with some hot water while the almond milk is warming. Then froth the almond milk while it mixes into the matcha. And i think i broke my frother. Arg. Anyway.
First sip all foam. Not my best foam. I want to really like this but thus far it’s just meh. It tastes a bit too artificial. Not bad just not what I thought. Might taste amazing in a drink or smoothie though.
Please note that color of flavored matcha teas changes when mixed with natural flavor. There seems to be a reaction of some sort that affects the color of the final product to more yellow-green. At this point it can only be changed if we start using artificial flavor, which will not happen anytime soon.
Not a Fan TTB. I am very much a fan of this tea. Some really great vegetal and grass notes. I’d really like to do a cold steep and see how it turns out. It’s more of a green then an oolong I think. It has more of a green flavor then an oolong flavor but it definitely has some of those smooth oolong qualities.
Flavors: Grass, Vegetal
Preparation
Not a fan TTb. You really have to be a fan of smoky teas in order to enjoy this one. And I am not a fan so I can only say that all I taste is smoke. Actually I feel like I am sipping on a campfire. It tastes exactly like the smoke that follows you around a campfire and makes your eyes water and throat burn. I can’t finish this…. Campfires do not belong in my mouth…
Ok last tea for the night. Not a fan TTB. This one is either stale or … I dont know… I feel like I’m just drinking hot water. Hot water with a lil flavor. Its not even getting that bitter and its been at least 3 mins. Rhubarb in tea doesn’t usually bring out rhubarb flavor.
Not a Fan TTB. It’s been a hard day for me. I need a bit of a pick me up. And those fruit snacks did nicely. Not quite sure of what to think about this tea though. It has chocolate flavor to it; and the smell is actually quite good. But it’s somewhat artificial. The flavor that is.
Preparation
Not a fan TTB. This doesn’t pair well with mac and cheese. Really a unique vanilla tea. for some reason I keep thinking of bourbon. Something about the woodiness of the base. The vanilla flavor doesn’t really hit until the after taste.
Preparation
Not a fan TTb. As much as I love green tea, this is one that I’ve never really liked. I keep trying but it’s just never gotten a special place on my palate. Hay and grass. This one seems a bit old to me. I’m not getting as much flavor out of it as I feel like I should be. Maybe its the intense hay flavor I’m not liking so much that this one usually reminds me of.
On a side note. If you ever get a chance to go to the Temple of Heaven, do it! It’s amazing.
