23 Tasting Notes
So this is back to horsetail mare-go-round tale. Meaning, organic version is on the way from solarisbotanicals. In the shop, had liquid extract. And this. Which apparently is the only way to get wiregrass. That’s an appeal in itself. Horsetail on its own is overwhelming. My autopsy will be inconclusive. Now, can I venture out of liubao blends into something I couldn’t stomach before.
Another surprise from corona supply chain. Ordered same time as few samples from California based purple cloud tea that took a week to get to Ireland. Well, that one has been sitting in customs for last few weeks. Maybe they are calculating the most expensive to apply higher rate which should be zero but I am guessing politicians want to retire earlier. They will fix it later with getting free nuclear submarine from Taiwan or something. I went for the picture. I am guessing dark for roasted. So PayPal never got fixed but maybe there was an option to pay with card thru PayPal but no account. Paypal disabled there text authorizations and to create new account one needs the same. Alternative option was alipay thru transferwise platform. So EMS was courier of choice, USD 15 and voila I got it in 3 weeks with no customs involved. Only guessing due to shipping from shanghai thru hong Kong. What about mongolia, Afghanistan and Dubai. I know, camel wouldn’t have so much fodder to survive the journey. Anyway, it tasted better that I expected. Way smoother and sweeter. A bit acidic only guessing cuz it made me hungry. But missing oiliness from swiss batch. So will I be putting it away for ageing ? I will consider this as well, I like how leaves look on the picture. But link is deceiving, someone just overwrote out of stock line it seems.
So what’s the story with acidity. Is it not enough stalks. On the morning of 6 December 2021 g.j.leonard comet will be about 5 degrees from the star Arcturus.
So this is different beast. Not variety of beef but buffalo. How do I know. You don’t just buy 300g without sampling. All I had is aged version. Well, picture looks different. It is not just younger variety. It is different year. Was 2007/2008 rehearsal for 2020/2021. I can see roughshod stalks. It smells grassier. It tastes creamier. The other one was all most artisan. It was subtle and strong. Reminded med of my first being dou oolong from dragonteahouse. I mean, it was oily. It was 45 USD for 50 gram. I didn’t get it. I wanted fully roasted pesticide version. My body was craving GMO fix. Organic bread is tasteless. Where is my chemical soup overdose. Anyway, I am cheap quality junkie, apparently. Maybe it is my body subconsciously trying to cope with lack of ambition when it comes to earning power. How dare you smiling when you haven’t achieved anything we want you to feel guilty about. How do we manipulate you if you don’t feel guilt.
So, the context. Package from purple cloud house in auburn got to Dublin in a week for 20 EUR carriage with ups and been with customs since. I guess they are trying to calculate duty based on the most premium one. Curious-tea introduced Thai 1995 liubao and Irish revenue decided to take v.a.t. on both value AND courier charges. How cute. Someone is going for early retirement in that legalized recketeering division. At least they are learning about heicha in the process. So whiskey can be auctioned.
So aged version sailed from Switzerland to Ireland under customs radar, guessing being 100g only. So what’s the sweet spot, 200g ?
Strangely, it reminds me of golden flower brick. The viscosity. Brick was like sandy water. I am thinking what happens if I age it in white jade gaiwan. A.I. corrected me twice with an island that shares name starting with “t” instead of “g”. Gin n tonic. Supersonic. And shandemic.
Because I remember 803 wild version from chawang back few years ago and then having it recently. It almost tasted over-aged. Maybe I aged. Maybe it is vaccine. Can I have one against slow deliveries please. I mean mRNA that would make me smile 4 months until all the bugs haveva bite at my porcelain.
Alternative to steaming tea inside preheated iron pot is putting empty frying pan on gas stove, leaving it there for a minute until starts smelling like everything you ever cooked in it, taking it off flame, adding tea leaves until kettle boils. It tastes now like singed sunflower seeds.
I know I’ve been brutal with heicha. And I broke my thermos. So never having patience for kungfu ritual, I settled for iron teapot from tkmaxx. Now this is my first experience with steaming chunks of sheng inside of it. Being a lazy beaver, I fill up empty vessel with boiling water and pour the rest on top of it. I leave it for few minutes, empty and place the victim inside and cover with iron lid. It is a torture. Or maybe sauna for microbiological bacteria. I think they are sending distress signal to comets passing withing few light years away. But the only entity answering call is me getting from nephrite car seat and putting another haden kettle on, this time with silver ionized water. It is a battle lost to fluoride. My teeth don’t know any better. After all, all the fillings are buzzing from 5g soup the whole neighbourhood is steeping in. What a trip.
That was very powerful. I mean, I didn’t expect it, suspected from the look of leaves but there was no smell to confirm it. I think I only had similar effect from really old shengs from specific areas. The was no tracking as came thru swiss post and took few weeks but no customs tricks. Looking forward to restock with cheaper version from 2008 as that seems the year there is lots of tea from different sources. I am actually thinking I remember really old Thai liubao that was as sneaky. Now, how do I compare it with Vietnamese material.
So I am bored. Like really dead bored. But this is what happens when you check if storm is over. I mean, after first jab I immediately had few cans of beer despite medical acumen. I lost it. I couldn’t drink. That’s fun taken out of it. I thought as long as I mix tea with alcohol, I am responsible poison partaker. I was wrong. Which brings me to comparison of this.
And wanting me having a go at this.
I mean, it’s pricey. But vendor is based here
I know yunnansourcing listed it but probably different set of storage humidity parameters.
So after 2nd shot I can drink.
I remember Russians made beemer dealers to put a note, supported Nazi Germany. So Bavaria.
I was getting worried, like non-alcoholic beer is first step towards inflatable woman.
No idea what she says but the date is significant
I got tea before 02-07 and tomorrow is 04-07 unless you are retired in Tahiti.
So golden flower bricks are unbeatable.
This is my plan. Mix it with below
Wrap into cheese paper in a form of triangles. Hang on x-mas tree. Blast it with slipknot, minimal group techno and/ or canonical Mormon audiobook.
Market as vibe infused festive miner hashbrowns
The last one probably Misfiled, I’ve asked this guy to design macra for side effect of vaccine
C’mon, this is how I am feeling
I love Belgium but feeling sedated and energetic at the same time, that is something you give to snipers or kamikazes. Obviously, I have wrong blood type.
I wonder if he agrees to look into coasters that charge stalks with cosmic undercurrents.
Hands down the best liubao I ever had. Picked it mainly because it was in
the upper price bracket, just wanted to tick bricks off my list. Very heavy
glutenous rice aroma. Can’t figure out whether branding has to do with it.
I mean the colour and pattern of packaging. Is it all subliminal. Four
digit starting with one, guessing not far away from zero. It is thick. Like
almost oily. If I blended tiajian with ripe, that feel. Maybe it is a brick
thing. Vaguely remember tuochas/ cakes were for greener types and bricks
for riper. There is another one with packaging looking similar but it is
loose. In a bag. Xiaguan, tried loose, tried flat, still bricks were better
rhyme to me. Maybe it is about stalks, like coarser type. Stems are
potentially more alkaline. And it is really loosely pressed. I do recall
some bricks marketed as rice ones. I wonder if that is about steaming with
rice. I know I had hua zhuan version scented with lotus. But my mind went,
this is to cover lower quality of material. Like selling marinated/ BBQ
chicken when unsuitable for fresh marketing. So what’s next ? Is this the
end of the road searching for most flavoursome oolong and passing thru
heichas that make your mind freeze. Like day tranquilizer but better. Like
something you would give to a sniper.
This is probably a sacrilege but I blended it with below
Anytime I had this type of heicha, it brings me back to Malawian satemwa white. I could definitely recommend it to someone who is making brave steps from greens towards shengs.
This was the best think before I discovered zangcha. I could sense that sakura wasn’t there just to cover undertaste or add another layer. It actually processed microbiology inside of tea. I don’t normally go for Japanese teas, I find them too subtle. Even Oolongs. Then again, I didn’t get into realm of fermented valley. Are they similar to Korean ? In a sense. This is interesting video that highlights link to China.
You would think there is a railway crossing between north Korea and soviet Russia. Were they not building tunnels/ bridges between Korea/ Japan ? Anyway,,this was unusual and sublime. Smoke, I wouldn’t even describe it as such. It is more like menthol. I mean, it is not a dry aspect. Now I am thinking what if I blend it with liubao brick.
So this is related to below
Reason – nearly sure I asked grandnesstea to list it on eBay, obviously since pandemic/ PayPal, standoff no longer there.
But eBay wasn’t great for tags, so I would type Chinese characters in Google images and get listing from taobao. To me, it looked a premium version of no-logo chocolate type. Symbol is universal, however there are some mythological as well semi-criminal connotations.
Nearly sure it was sub-brand wooden house century
The beauty of this it has code, again c4 is paramilitary. But you can find other digits mostly related to size. C7 comes to mind. And Nirvana’s cover of “dimension seven”
But it was two thinner bricks so could break with fingers and fit into thermos. It was way smokier than the other one. Glad I had it in my collection. Kind of arrived at conclusion, the smaller offering is, the more refined it is likely to be. Meaning, 50g brick is probably exclusive. Most are 400g though. So it is not always about weight to value ration. I mean, probably larger brick would age in more interesting way. But there is a market, limited ageing potential for single wrap tuocha which explains the excellent value as well less risk when blind buying.
