drank Pu-er Tuo Cha by The Tao of Tea

I really enjoyed unwrapping this little parcel of tastiness. I didn’t know what to expect from this tea, as I have not had a lot of experience with pu’erh’s.
My first brew of this parcel – was for 3 minutes in almost boiling water. When I looked into my cup I saw an espresso coloured liquor, that looked like it would be just as thick as an espresso. Brewed aroma is deep, earthy and nutty.
The taste of this parcel is exactly how it smells: deep, thick, earthy and nutty. It’s good!
Am only on first steeping…will rate again later.

So I brewed this one up at the same as my David’s sample just to see how much of a difference there would be. I was surprised! The Tealux leaves are bigger and brighter green. The dry aroma smell is sweeter and less vegetal.
Brewed this tea is less vegetal – it’s lighter tasting, with a bit of nuttiness. I’m not getting a bitter aftertaste. I like it, but now need to explore this type of tea a little more.

drank Dragonwell by DAVIDsTEA

I have a Dragonwell from Tealux, and I’m surprised with the difference. This version of David’s when I first bought I thought was great, and I thought it would be one of my go to green’s. I may have to re-think that.
The leaves from David’s are smaller, not as sweet smelling.
Brew is vegetal, slightly toasty, ending with a bitter note.
It’s not a bad tea, and I will have no problem finishing the stash, but this comparison will have me tasting/testing other Dragonwell’s.

This is not what I am used to drinking from a oolong tea. It doesn’t have that strong rock/mineral taste that I usually associate with oolongs. That doesn’t mean that I don’t like this. I do. Quite a lot, actually. The flavour is deeper, and very familiar, but I can’t quite pinpoint what I am tasting. Sweet. Smooth. Pleasing.

Dry aroma is sweet, fruity and nutty.

Second steeping holds flavour well.

drank Bourbon Vanilla by The Tea Haus

I have tried this one a couple of times…and each time I try it I don’t know what to think. When I first saw this on the site I thought ‘Bourbon!! Vanilla!! YUM!! I can’t wait to try this!!’ After trying it my expectations didn’t meet what it actually tastes like. The first time I tried this tea I got a big old smack in the face from the vanilla saying “HELLO I AM VANILLA!!” and I thought to self “I know, I taste you, Vanilla.” But now, after a couple of tastings, I find that the vanilla has mellowed out and is not as strong, although is still quite prominent (maybe got used to strong vanilla flavour). My colleagues think it smells like cake. Vanilla is a favourite flavour of mine, but this was ‘HI!!! HELLOOOOO!!! VANILLAAAA’ Sadly, no bourbon :(
Second steeping was only rooibos, no vanilla – which was ok with me, I don’t mind the taste of rooibos.
Not bad, but not what I expected.

drank Lime Gelato by DAVIDsTEA

I can’t believe how good this is!!! A few days ago I drank it as a hot brew, and I was really surprised how creamy it was, and that the lime was not over-powering or too tart.
I just had it cold brewed and it was delicious. The creaminess was not as prominent, and the lime flavour was perfect!
I foresee future purchases of this one. YUM!!

This is one of those blends that I open the tin every once in a while to smell the dry leaf, it smells that good to me. This is a tasty blend. I like it a lot, despite the fact that the predominant flavour to me is the star anise, followed by a nutty flavour(presumably coconut as that is on the ingredient list) and finally a hint of cinnamon. I see the cardamom pods in the blend, but not sure if I actually taste it. Same with the fruit pieces – I see them, but they don’t stand out.
Brewed to near boiling with added sweetener and milk – delicious.
I tried cold brewing this one, but that didn’t work out, and I had to get rid of it. Maybe a hot brew and then iced with added coconut rum will work out better.
This one I will be keeping in my cupboard.

I cold steeped this one, and it was good. I love pina colada’s and this delivered. The pineapple was present, and smoothed out from creamy coconut. This one didn’t really need any added sugar, as it’s pretty sweet on it’s own. Maybe next cold brew I’ll kick it up a notch with coconut rum and a splash of pineapple juice.

drank Nuts and More by The Tea Haus

Gaaah!!! Internet service!!!
So this teas is a lot like ‘Forever Nuts.’ Reminds me of oatmeal cookies. YUM!! I tend to eat more of this brew (head hanging in shame) than I brew – both ways are delicious. Eating David’s brew is softer – this one seems to have more beet root. I likey both.

Bio

My tea journey started in 2012, when a friend gifted me some loose leaf. I guess she thought I was drinking too much coffee. Blown away by the amazing flavours I immediately embraced the loose leaf tea. I still drink coffee, but my main choice of beverage is now tea.

My tea preferences are blacks, pu’erhs, oolongs and greens.
