drank Mt. Kenya Black by JusTea

I had this is in the morning, and it was perfect. Strong and malty – just what I needed for the chilly morning.

The first steep was a deep red colour, nothing like the photo. I was a little worried that I brewed it too long, but I preferred the stronger taste of the first steep. The second steep was ok and the colour was more like the photo.

Thank you Dexter3657 for sending this my way. I liked this quite a lot.

This is so good. ohmigod I love this stuff. I’ve got enough for one more cup – saving it for tomorrow. I will definitely have to order this again. Chocolate and toasted rice makes a great warming cup this chilly evening.

I just ordered more of this one last Friday, I’ve actually been craving it for a couple of weeks!

I’ve been trying to hold off ordering, but this is just too delicious.

drank Organic Guayusa by Butiki Teas

I got this a long time ago from AureliaFish, who hasen’t been around for a while – but thank you for sending me this!

I was really reluctant to try this ‘cos I wasn’t sure what it would taste like straight up, no flavours (and I was kinda afraid it would not be good). I kept putting it off and I just couldn’t bring myself to try it. Until today. Well, knock me over with a feather…this tastes Really Good! It has a natural sweet hay flavour. Not grassy. Just plain sweet hay.

When I order from Butiki, I will definitely be getting this.

Dexter

Don’t you love happy surprises like that?

scribbles

Yeah…it was great, ‘cos I really had it in my mind (don’t know why) that it would be awful, but no – is good.

This is the third company that I’ve tried this style of tea from, and I also place it in third for taste.

I found subtle hints of cocoa, and some maltiness. It was ok. I’ll have no problem finishing what I have, but I wouldn’t re-purchase. There are tastier pearls out there.

The first time I tried this I did not like it. The second time I tried it I loved it and hoarded the last piece. Today I’m on the fence.

The brew is dark with a strong rice aroma. I just finished the third steep and the sticky rice flavour is still present and quite strong. I’ll keep steeping until the taste weakens.

A possible re-stock when I next visit Tao’s shop.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve logged a tasting note. I thought that staying away would curb my tea buying, but that approach didn’t really work for me.

I got this tea from Dexter3657. I really enjoyed this cuppa. Yesterday when I drank I found the sweet potato in the early sipping, and plum and honey after.

Today I got sweet potato and honey. No plum. Don’t know what I did differently…Either way a tasty tea.

Thank you Dexter!

Thank you Dexter3657 for sending me a sample of this tea. This has a strong fruity profile. This is the second darjeeling I’ve tried – the first one from Davids Tea. I think darjeeling is not for me. Although it’s not my preference I won’t have any trouble finishing off my sample.

This came my way from JustJames – another tea I would never have tried if not for you, so thank you!

The flavours in this puerh are really prominent. The first flavour that jumps out is the almond, followed by sweet and creamy vanilla and caramel. For the second steep the almond disappeared but I still tasted the caramel and vanilla.

I really enjoyed this one. Vanilla and caramel is just so good.

Sil

i really like this one

JustJames

me too….. i keep fiddling with it trying to find the way i like it. my steeps keep getting interrupted!!! the phone rings, or something crashes and then 10 minutes later i mutter (okay, probably yell) an expletive and try to salvage it. every single time!

This came in a surprise package from Dexter3657 – thank you!

I am liking how good this tea is – sweet and malty. I have not yet found those cocoa notes, which I really enjoy in black tea’s. I’ll give this a go with Dexter’s lower temp, longer steep recommendation. Despite the fact that I can’t taste the cocoa, I appreciate the malty profile in this tea.

Bio

My tea journey started in 2012, when a friend gifted me some loose leaf. I guess she thought I was drinking too much coffee. Blown away by the amazing flavours I immediately embraced the loose leaf tea. I still drink coffee, but my main choice of beverage is now tea.

My tea preferences are blacks, pu’erhs, oolongs and greens.
