I keep seeing this EVERYWHERE. I need to try it!

VariaTEA

Haha. I am running low right now but I plan on getting more when I go to Florida in March. I can send along a sample then if you like :). Although, being in the US, you can contact Nina’s directly and get samples from them as well.

Plunkybug

Same here…one day I will try this. It looks so awesome.

VariaTEA

In March, when my stash is replenished, I will continue to be the Nina’s Japon dealer. I feel it should be tried by all.

Courtney

I’m drinking a resteep of this one now!

VariaTEA

I saved the leaves so I could do just that.

drank Banana Pudding Black Tea by 52teas
6444 tasting notes

Once I was making Butterscotch Banana, I decided it would be fun to compare my other 52 teas banana tea. Having the two side-by-side, I think I can confidently say I prefer this one. Both are good but I enjoy the combination of banana and coconut more. Plus, this is not astringent which is definitely helps make it more enjoyable.

Flavors: Coconut

Sipdown!!

Thank you Roswell Strange for sending some of this my way. I recall really enjoying my first cup but this second cup, though tasting very much like banana and butterscotch, is really astringent.

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 2 min, 30 sec 2 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Plunkybug

I don’t like atsringent either.

Plunkybug

astringent

VariaTEA

It really ruins a whole cup.

Plunkybug

It sure does. I’m not a huge fan of smoky either.

Surprise sipdown!!

I thought I had more of this than I actually did. I was sad to see it go until my roommate asked if I was drinking Birthday Cake tea, which I have a lot of in my stash. As I sipped, I realized the two are basically the same so this is not much of a loss.

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 2 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

Thank you Cavocorax for sharing this with me. I am really enjoying this genmaicha. I think the use of a roasted hojicha base helps to emphasize the toasty rice flavor. Yum…

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 0 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
Dexter

I think I would like this, why do I think I might have this? I have to get my cupboard under control
Happy you are enjoying a genmaicha that’s not Japon… was worried it had spoiled you for all the others…

VariaTEA

haha I do love my Japon. Though I can still appreciate other genmaichas (although maybe not as much as I would have if I never tried Japon)

VariaTEA

And if you don’t have this, I can pass along what I have left so you can give it a try.

Dexter

Thank you, but I have it – I thought so, not sure where it came from Amoda box maybe…. Uggg I HAVE to get my stash under control, I don’t even know what I have or where it came from :))

drank Carrot Cake by Della Terra Teas
6444 tasting notes

When I first tried this tea I was in love. I thought it was the greatest tea in the world. Now, I can’t find the cream cheese icing I really enjoyed in my first few cups and the rooibos is stronger than I remembered. It is still tasty but not the carrot cake tea I fell in love with.

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 2 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML
Suziqzer

Funny how our tastes change. Maybe try lowering the temperature next time? I tend to on my Della Terra rooibos blends.

VariaTEA

I tried lowering it a bit but I will try lowering it again. I don’t mind it but something tells me I won’t get through the 4 oz I bought as easily as I anticipated.

Suziqzer

Ouch.. 4 oz is a lot if your not liking it. I hope you figure out how to get it to taste how you remembered.

VariaTEA

I like it, just don’t love it like I did when I first had it. Luckily it is caffeine free and since my options in that department are lacking, I am sure I will get through it eventually.

Sipdown!! (185)

Thank you Scheherazade for sharing this tea. I am actually really enjoying this cup. The toffee is prominent with both a hint of smoke and a slight apple sweetness. It is very, very nice and I am sad to see it go.

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Sipdown!! (186)

Thank you MissB for the sample of this tea. Alas, it seems to be quite finicky so while some cups are really good, others are merely okay. It was fun while it lasted but I think I will be passing along the last couple of cups to my friend to test her luck with it.

Flavors: Cinnamon

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 2 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
MissB

Yea, wasn’t my favorite either. Glad you have someone to try it out on next. ;)

VariaTEA

I enjoyed the cups, some more than others, but now it will be passed on for someone else to enjoy.

drank Cookie Dough by DAVIDsTEA
6444 tasting notes

I LOVED this tea when I first had it. In fact, I loved it sooo much I bought more despite having about 40-50 g of it. Unfortunately, I am noticing how oily this is and as delicious as it tastes, I just can’t handle to oil.

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 4 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Bio

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
