This was the second tea I tried from my Butiki order. After experiencing a bit of a letdown with the Pistachio Ice Cream tea I tried first, I was happy to find that Watermelon Xylophone did not disappoint!

The dry leaf smells like fresh, ripe watermelon with a light white tea undertone. (It’s also quite beautiful, with lovely fuzzy silver needles accented with bright pink petals! <3 ) The scent translates directly to the taste – it is the flavour of a beautiful buttery white tea with a squeeze of fresh watermelon juice. Refreshing and light and not at all artificial. My boyfriend declared it the best white tea he has ever tasted!

Definitely will be ordering more of this one in the future!

I finally decided to order some Butiki teas, after hearing such wonderful things about them on here. When putting through my order, I forgot to request my two free samples and sent Stacy an email to see if I could still add them. She was kind enough to do so for me, and even included another free sample in my order! :) So thank you, Stacy!

Pistachio Ice Cream is the first tea I tried out of the entire order. The dry leaf smells fantastic – very creamy and definitely reminiscent of ice cream, which is what inspired me to try it before any of the others!

Unfortunately, once brewed I found that I could taste nothing but the green tea, maybe a little bit of pistachio, and no creaminess at all. The ice cream scent of the dry leaves just didn’t translate to the cup, despite following the brewing instructions exactly. On the second steep, I detected a bit more of the creaminess, but the flavour was rather weak overall.

That being said, the taste of the green tea is lovely – it’s a nice, vegetal green. I’m just really not tasting the pistachio ice cream flavour that everyone else seems to be enjoying, and that smelled so wonderful in the package. Perhaps I just need to try it again with a couple tweaks. I will definitely revisit this one, and hopefully my opinion will change!

This one of two teas I ordered from Mountain Tea’s Black Friday sale. I don’t have any plain green teas in my collection – the closest being some Genmaicha – so I decided this would be a good opportunity to try some!

This tea is different from any plain greens I have encountered. Even the look of the dry leaves is unusual – large, dark and curled. It brews up into a pale green-yellow liqueur. The taste is very smooth, vegetal and curiously salty. It reminds me very strongly of the sea.

I think this tea is quite nice, though I find that it’s more enjoyable in small quantities. I say this because whenever I brew an entire pot, I start out enjoying it, but after a while the taste will become a bit overwhelming. Just an observation, but otherwise it’s a nice change from the usual sencha!

I ordered this tea as a sample, and I’m glad I did because while it smelled absolutely wonderful, it was a bit of a disappointment when brewed. It smells beautifully fruity but the fruit flavour was actually quite weak, and there was a bitter edge to it as well. I might try brewing it at an even lower temperature to see if that helps.

This tea was alright. I didn’t really taste the nut or sandalwood flavours, which was a bit disappointing. Mostly it just tasted fruity – quite reminiscent of a fruitcake, actually. So if that’s what you’re looking for it would be quite nice, but I was just hoping for but more spice and somewhat less fruitiness.

This was quite a nice tea! I’m not sure I’m really a fan of milky oolong in general, though, so that might be why I wouldn’t count it among my favourites, though I did enjoy it for what it is. It definitely tastes just how you would expect, very melon-ey with that creamy aftertaste, so I would definitely recommend this to someone who enjoys milk oolong!

I really aliken the milky oolong to a lapsong that has been brewed through a bunch, with the melon it’s a cantaloupe rind mixed with papaya. I could never get enough of that papaya-y taste that makes it so exotic and for a seasoned green tea drinker its the perfect hongcha

This is one of my absolute favourite teas! It’s a heavenly blend that’s handmade from a small shop on Etsy, and is chock full of delicious ingredients, as can be seen in the picture.

Right away when you sip it you taste the sweet floral of the jasmine green tea, immediately followed by the richness of the vanilla bean and cocoa nibs. This is how chocolate should taste in tea (in my opinion) – not an artificial chocolate flavour, or chocolate chunks that leave an oil slick on the top of the water when they melt – but a nice cocoa flavour that tastes like the real bean. Definitely highly recommend if you’re a fan of floral, or if you’re looking for a tea with chocolate that actually tastes like it!

Rose is usually not my favourite floral, but something about the smell of this tea was just really intriguing, so I went ahead and bought it anyway. Even though it is indeed very strong on the rose, I really like this tea! It’s definitely quite perfume-y, but that’s sort of the appeal of it. It does feel very exotic when you’re drinking it. I find it can also be quite nice when mixed with other teas to mellow out the strength of it.
