drank Green Rooibos Summer Fruit by eZentea
1220 tasting notes

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to trying it. So far I haven’t been much of a green rooibos fan, but all previous experiences have been hot teas.

I steeped it hot and let it cool off a bit then added some ice. I forget that a T-sac works far better than a strainer with rooibos so I’ve got rooibos all in the cup. No big deal. Since this tea isn’t on ZenTea’s website, I don’t know entirely what is in it. I see some flower petals, possibly marigolds, strawberry, and orange peel.

I definitely taste orange. There’s maybe pineapple too, it might just be a flavoring. The strawberry is more subtle, though there is a definite berry taste.

I enjoy green rooibos a lot more iced. It’s kind of grassy but very neutral. This is definitely a keeper for the summer!

Wah Estate teas have been intriguing to me for quite a bit.

This is a very interesting cup of tea. It feels very thick on the mouth, but it’s light and sweet. First I thought the thickness came from what I ate before so I did everything possible to make sure it wasn’t me. It’s definitely the tea.

I don’t quite care for the way it smells. “Light pungency” is just kind of being nice in the description I think and it carries over into the aroma of the tea, not just the taste.

After the sweetness subsides, it kind of has the aftertaste of pita bread. I have no idea how I’m getting pita bread, but it really tastes like astringent pita bread, if that existed. Before that it’s kind of almondy.

Not sure I like it, but it was worth a try.

ScottTeaMan

Another on my list from Upton’s I’ll try with next order if it doesn’t sell out.

Kittenna

Astringent pita bread, eh? Hahaha, some of the flavour descriptions people come up with on here really make me giggle!

momo

I know, beyond some of the hilarious comments there are some marvelous descriptions on here. But seriously, I don’t know if it’s because I was hungry, it really tasted like warmed pita bread!

drank Watermelon Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Ok, last night I took watermelon, mint, and a half teaspoon of this matcha and made myself a lovely drink. I don’t know what else to call it because it’s not really a smoothie, but it was good. Before I put the matcha in, the mint was way too strong. But with the matcha, it mixed with the green tea and had a green taste without being too overbearing.

And while I was cutting up the rest of the watermelon just now, I had to try what Invader Zim suggested in the comments on my tasting note from yesterday. I took a piece of watermelon then rubbed the matcha on it and ate it. SO. GOOD. I had to stop myself because a) I had a different cup of tea waiting on me and b) I was going to probably run out of the matcha.

Invader Zim

That’s awesome that it turned out so well!

Kittenna

Watermelon matcha mojito??

drank Watermelon Matcha by Matcha Outlet

I knew this was coming today, so I stopped and bought a quarter of a watermelon on the way home. Except of course, the stupid train aggravated my back so I took pain meds and now I don’t want to touch a knife for a few hours. But still, I had to try this immediately especially since I finally got a legitimate matcha making whisk. Although I had discovered that my smoothie maker attachment for my hand mixer did an excellent job.

I of course spilled everywhere but that’s the cup’s fault. After seeing aisling of tea’s note that this had that bitterness of the peach, I used room temp water and all is well.

The watermelon was a bit light, so I added some sugar and now it tastes a lot more like sweet, juicy watermelon mixed with matcha. Drop in a touch of cream, a couple ice cubes, and this is the perfect mid-afternoon refreshment in the summer.

Later on though, the smoothie attachment is coming back out, along with the watermelon and some of the mint in my garden.

This is also probably the most realistic tasting watermelon tea I’ve had. I enjoy Luscious Watermelon but if given a choice between it and this matcha, I’d take the matcha. Out of all of them I’ve tried so far from Red Leaf, I think this one is tops in combining the flavor with the matcha itself.

Bonnie

You gotta be kiddin!

Invader Zim

You should put some matcha on your actual watermelon and see how that tastes!

momo

Ooh, I’ll try that for sure!

Daisy Chubb

Yes! Ordering this for suresies now :D

Kittenna

Arrrrgh. Must. Review. Matcha.

Ninavampi

I can’t wait to order this……

drank Cotton Candy Black Tea by 52teas
1220 tasting notes

This is the only thing keeping me from passing out asleep in Foreign Policy right now. I am so glad I brought my laptop.

This stupid bottle doesn’t keep things as cold as it should given the interior cooler pack type thing. It needs to be just a bit cooler for the base blend to really shine with the cotton candy flavor. But right now, all cotton candy is fine by me.

One hour to go. Thankfully I have a LOT left.

drank Peach Matcha by Matcha Outlet
1220 tasting notes

I blended up half a peach and added it to some of this. I think the temperature was too high again, so I think I’ll just stick with using room temp water on this stuff. It has a bit of a bitter aftertaste. But on the plus side, it frothed up so amazingly well. I usually can’t get it whisked up fast enough to get a lot of bubbles but this time I did and it was beautiful.

Before the aftertaste though it is so sweet and peachy, I still feel like I “wasted” one of my peaches though because they are the most beautiful and delicious ones I have ever had. Their flesh color is so intense, they almost look like mangos inside. Their flavor does come through so not all is lost and I guess it’s less messy than me eating it.

The addition of cream actually cuts down on the bitterness a lot, and thankfully tames the sweetness a bit too because it was getting to be too much for me! Now this is reeeeeally good.

I’m getting their watermelon one next…you don’t even need to guess that I’ll be replicating this but with watermelon! Seriously the more I drink it, the more heavenly it tastes.

Daisy Chubb

I also have big plans for the watermelon matcha! Hello – it just screams summer!

teawade

This just might be the greatest creation ever. Must try. Thanks for posting! I might have never seen this tea and missed out on something great.

drank Sea Breeze Green Tea by 52teas
1220 tasting notes

Hmmm so I’m first! I almost drank my entire bottle of this while I was out today, too hot outside…though some of it ended up in the bottom of my bag. I think I need a more trustworthy leakproof bottle.

This was cold steeped overnight, and it was really good. I never really eat grapefruit but I love the flavor of it, so it’s especially welcome here, and one of the main reasons I got this tea. I have never actually had the cocktail but based on this tea, I’d maybe give it a shot. (Though the variation with pineapple juice instead of grapefruit sounds even better.)

This is sweet, a little tart in a good sense, and the base is a nice smooth overall flavor to match. Definitely a very refreshing thing to drink when it’s hot and humid outside. I should have made an entire pitcher since I’m still so thirsty!

Now I’m really excited because one of these weekends, I’m going to go to Orlando and I have no idea what we are going to do, but that’s going to make 2 trips to Florida this year (and one more in October) and I have no idea what to do. My boyfriend said water park but meh, I’d rather take the time to go to a beach instead then.

And yes, this tea’s name did give me that idea.

Azzrian

We did the beach (wedding on beach even) then we did Universal Studios – then Disney – I say hit the pier and beach then hit Universal Studios. While it was a great experience to say we did Disney and we had the kids with us – still Universal RULED all four of us agreed it was the best between the two!
Water park MEH there is one downtown in orlando by an amusement park but everything is SO close you really can do all of them if you have the funds to spare!

momo

My boyfriend has a painting to take to his brother down there, so I have no idea exactly how much time we have other than Friday-Sunday at most, and we have a free rental car coupon. I went to Disney when I was in first grade and Universal in fourth, so I remember very, very little from either, and of course they’ve probably changed immensely since that was the early/mid 90s. I’m sure we’ll figure out something! I guess this is just happening within the next 3 weeks though so of course my first instinct is plan plan plan plan plan.

CHAroma

Universal trumps Disney.

momo

I want to go to Islands of Adventure, mainly for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but my boyfriend told me he would do Conan O’Brien’s nerdy Harry Potter fan impersonation at every person around there so I’m saving that for going with someone who will actually be interested >:[ He said butterbeer sounds gross so just really, I cannot do this with him.

drank Perfect Pear by DAVIDsTEA
1220 tasting notes

Perfect tart is more like it. I steeped it hot then poured it over ice, using the whole sample for a cup of water. I think I meant to use half a cup so it’d be really strong but my brain is mush with production possibilities frontiers. I’m actually glad I didn’t do that.

Smells like pear, that’s for sure. I had to add sugar though, because it was just all around tart before that. Now it tastes like pear up front, but it has this weird, tart aftertaste. And actually, tart is too nice. Sour is more like it.

If it wasn’t for that, this would be pretty good. But on the plus side, that’s one less tea I really want. Now I really want a real pear. Poor pears, I wish they could be well replicated in tea.

I will finish drinking it though because it is above what I am studying in less painful things to subject myself to right now.

Daddyselephant

Yes! Sour is the word I was looking for when trying to describe why I didn’t like it…

Kittenna

Definitely sour… and not in a good lemon-lime way…

drank Coconut Cream Pie by 52teas
1220 tasting notes

I coldbrewed this, and while totally delicious and coconutty, the base seemed a bit harsh. Then I came over to Steepster and saw “iced latte.” While the tea isn’t strong enough for that, I remembered I still have a lot of coconut creamer to use up in the next couple of days so I poured a good bit in. For once, I’m drinking a tea where it doesn’t matter if the coconut milk flavor comes through from the addition!

Definitely better now, but I still get something that tastes oddly smoky. I only recently bought this and I haven’t kept it with anything smoky, so I have no idea what caused this. It’s not bad, just seems out of place. Entirely possible it was picked up in the bottle even though I have no idea what would have caused it. But with the creaminess amped up, it’s less noticeable. This is definitely more like just coconut cream, not really getting any sort of crust flavor. Well, kind of, I’ve resorted to the butter cookies again, so I am tasting pie after all, but not solely from the tea.

Definitely will give it a try hot soon, and then properly make it an iced latte.

Second try, this time with a lower temperature thanks to the suggestion from Amy oh. Also this time I won’t let it cool off too much. I completely forgot I have a 3 page paper due tomorrow but I’ve got one page down and I haven’t even written half of what I’ve thought about…and I’m doing this all without the book. I’ve also got an exam already…and no book…and I only have gone to the class one full day…so that will be interesting. I’ve at least got all the notes but yeah, note to self to never get sick and take summer classes.

So this is much better with a lower temperature water. It’s fruity, almondy, just like the description. And although it says it’s good with a buttery dessert, I think it tastes just a bit buttery. Since I just got some butter cookies, I am trying one with it. It almost makes the cookie taste more like an almond croissant. Dessert upgrade magic!

It still has an astringent quality to it, but it’s that good kind of astringency that makes Darjeeling so delicious.

This is definitely a keeper. Too bad I have no money. I’m doing a marketing study the last week of the month and I’ll get at least $85 (possibly $125 if I’m chosen to stay an extra hour, either way $40/hr is AWESOME), and my mom yelled at me for wanting to buy a yixing teapot with it. Not all of it necessarily, since I only want it to be like 6oz max, but I suppose eating might be more important. She told me to live like a college student. Hahahaha. Are we allowed to drink first flush Darjeelings?

Ninavampi

Good luck with your exam! And yes… Absolutely… College Students are allowed to drink first flush darjeelings! :)

Kittenna

Hahahaha, that’s awesome – the cheese panel I’m participating in pays $15 per session, and I’m carefully allocating all of it to tea purchases :D Although I’m on an indefinite purchasing hiatus right now, I managed to spend over $200 of it already…

Bonnie

Good luck here from me too!

CHAroma

I was richer in college than I was for the first two years after. Definitely save your money and buy once you’re gainfully employed! (That’s my two cents anyways).
