5 Tasting Notes

Ahh finally took the plunge and picked up my first full cake of YQH in Emmett’s last group order. I won’t get into too much detail because 1. It’s almost 3 am and I’m supposed to be studying and 2. I want to give the cake plenty of time to adjust to my environment before I decide how I feel about it. Visually this cake is beautiful! Super thick, healthy looking browned leaves with plenty of golden tips. The taste is very light throughout but with ample thickness. Light might not be the right word because I really dig the soft plummy sweetness but it certainly isn’t the most complex of the YQH. Qi is very nice and relaxing and there is a lasting throat feel/huigan. Overall I’ve quite enjoyed my first couple sessions!

Coming back to this note a couple months later…
I’m not as enthusiastically in love with this cake as I was when I first got it. It’s got nice flavors and decent qi though. It just seems to be missing something that the other top YQH teas have. It just doesn’t change much over the course of the session. Good but not super complex

Freaking unbelievable! I have to agree with LP on many facets of this tea. The entire session is SMOOTH, almost silky! I waited 3 months for this tea to arrive(God I hate China Post) and now can confirm that it was worth it. The aroma of the dry leaves is so intense and sweet. Truly unlike most puerh on the market. I love how Tea Urchin kept this in maocha form as you can really appreciate the beauty of the full, thick leaves. The first couple steeps are quite light but already show a fantastic huigan and oilyness. Not to mention an unsurprisingly strong sweetness. The bitterness shows up in the middle steeps(definitely not overpowering) but fades quickly. It adds more to the texture and mouthfeel than anything else. I am really starting to notice that grape skin texture that LP mentioned. Moving on to my favorite part of this tea: the Qi! Holy shiiit this tea is STRONG. By steep #2 I was heating up. I can feel this heaviness in my chest. I’m on steep # 4 right now and am most definitely gettin tea wasted. It’s more of a motivating energy for me as oppose to the relaxing, stoned feeling from the 05 Naka. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase and seriously guys if you have the funds go buy a sample! Yes it’s expensive but having access to a tea of this quality from the mystical Lao Ban Zhang is a rarity to so the least.

drank Jin Guanyin by Verdant Tea
5 tasting notes

Wow I can’t believe I get to be the one to start the steepster page for this enchanting oolong from Verdant Tea! I’ve waited months to try this tea. I was so excited to try a new offering from Master Zhang. I fell in love with his tieguanyin but this tea is giving it a run for its money! Jin guan yin is everything I loved about tieguanyin and more. I knew I was going to love it when I opened the bag. Pow! Talk about aromatic! The smell is Floral and sweet. The first steep is so creamy and almost fruity followed by the signature tieguanyin aftertaste that consumes my taste buds. I cannot wait to experiment more with this tea! Thank you Master Zheng for provided us with your latest masterpiece! Time to crack open the other 5 new anxi oolongs I ordered. My latest tea binge is really putting a dent in my wallet haha.

I spent almost 3 hours last night scrolling through the reviews of this tea. It was like I was mesmerized by how many fantastic reviews there are…That’s why I can’t forget to take my adderall haha. I went to go order some of this tea and…….they are out of stock. I’m practically in tears now. Oh well guess i’ll just have to wait to try this one

This really is the best tea that Teavana has had…ok maybe the best green tea. I truly did not know what to expect when I picked up 2 pounds of this tea on clearance for 60 bucks. I was amazed by the creaminess to this tea. It’s very flavorful…but I always do add more tea then they suggest. Overall I would definitely recommend this tea to anyone looking for a good green tea. I’ve got a lot and am willing to share…
