2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 14

Day 14 – almost caught up! I did have this tea a day late, as I got behind on the weekend haha! I also now realize I understeeped it – should have done 5 mins, I did 4 and it definitely could have handled more!

This tea was a smooth talking chai. Nice vanilla sweetness, nice spiced sweetness, nothing too out of this world or harsh. An easy drinking chai. Would love to try this stove-top with vanilla almond milk and honey next time, as that is my favorite way to make a chai!

I found it pleasant, but didn’t focus too much on the flavor (I was drinking it during a pretty intense workday, so my bad). Would maybe like a bit more pop, but that’s just me :D good tea overall! Might order more to play with it!

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 14

Day 14, almost caught up on my backlog of teas! This I had yesterday morning, and in the package it smelled pretty good, lemony…but…it did remind me of NeoCitrane. Not sure about everyone on here, but NeoCitrane is a cold medicine here in Canada that is basically a powered lemon drink with some Tylenol ground up in it, and I have it if I’m super sick and need to sleep. It literally knocks me out. So the fact that this tea smelled like it…not my favorite for an early Monday morning of a busy week lol.

As for the flavor…yep…tastes like NeoCitrane to me lol. A weird tea. If I didn’t associated it with that medicine it would probably be fine…but as is, it is not for me. Might also be better iced so get rid of the comparison. Eh, I’ll finish it off and be okay with it being gone lol.

Prepared in the usual way, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water, drink.

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 13

DISCLAIMER – I did find a tea with the same name by The Tea Girl in Steepster, but checked the ingredients and they are very different, as this tea is nut free (confirmed with the vendor, as I have a severe peanut allergy so this one scared me haha). So I’ve added this one with 2020 in the name, so the old version and tea note attached was not lost!

Backlog from Monday – so since I got behind on the weekend, I had this tea on Monday. I also was a bit worried about it as I noted above – I have a peanut allergy and avoid all nuts. Now, this advent calendar is clearly noted nut-free, as is the tea labelling, but old habits made me message the vendor to confirm – yes all was good, no nuts!

So brewing this up, it smelled amazing! Caramel and SUPER NUTTY. So my brain is freaking out a bit, but I bit the bullet and drank it. And obviously, no side effects, no negative effects, just a delicious tea down the hatch and tasty on a dreary Monday! Yum! The caramel notes were amazing, and the nutty woody taste paired quite well! I enjoyed this! I am sad I will likely never have the courage to try a real walnut truffle, but at least I can enjoy it in tea form! Thank you @The Tea Girl for making an amazing nut-free tea!!

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 13

I feel like the overall rating for this tea must be off lol, considering the reviews I see are in the 80s…I also will be putting this one in the 80s! This was my Sunday matcha (this is a backlog note), and this is what I like in a flavored matcha. It reminds me of the good ol’ Red Leaf Tea days, where another of my gateway flavored matchas was a caramel one. This takes me there, and the slight saltiness adds a nice matcha-y note! Really enjoyable, will finish this off with absolutely no problem. Well done tea!

Prepared in the usual way, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water, drink. Yummm.

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 12

Backlog from the weekend – I had this Sunday as I missed having it on Saturday – I feel like I’ve had this before! Maybe before Tea Girl rebranded? Anyways, this is an amazing coconut vanilla bomb of a tea, super comforting, super sweet almost like a sugar cookie. Not in an artificial way though! It was exactly what I needed in the afternoon! I’ll have to hunt through my cupboard… ah I did find it! It was a blend by Communitea Cafe, no idea where I got it, but the ingredients are slightly different so must be a different tea. I think the Tea Girl version is better!

Steeped in 185 degree water for 2-3 minutes. Cozy, soft sweet tea <3

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 12

Backlog from the weekend – this one was…interesting lol. I didn’t really know what to expect in a gingerbread matcha…the smell whisking it up was not a resounding endorsement. I found it very spicy while whisking and a bit weird since it’s a matcha. But the flavored redeemed it a bit in my eyes – it was a smooth, cookie like, lightly ginger flavored sweet beverage. I finished my cup pretty easily. Maybe not my first choice of matcha, but definitely a unique one! Will finish my sample with no complaints, although definitely will do it during the holidays – can’t picture having this not around Christmas haha.

Prepared in the usual method, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water, drink.

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 11

Backlog – I was pleased that this tea showed up on a day I got a chocolate in my other calendar :D I recall having this in the evening (yes it was 4 days ago already), and it was quite amazing! My husband commented that it smelled too much like chocolate lol, so I guess it did its job? I quite enjoyed it, it truly was like an After Eight mint without the calories. Yummy and could see myself reordering for a sweet evening treat to satisfy my darn sweet tooth. I’ve been going through a giant bag of Lindor chocolates like nobody’s business lately, so anything to help that haha!

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 11

DISCLAIMER: I am catching up on tea notes haha so be prepared for an onslaught! This is a backlog from last Friday – the chocolate was good, although I am always a bit disappointed I don’t get to have a new matcha tea the day I get a chocolate though haha. And I will also admit – I am terrible at picking out the flavors in the chocolate haha I had to cheat and check someone else’s note! Nevertheless, this was tasty and sweet, a good treat on a Friday! Rating is for the tea, not the chocolate BTW.

2020 Advent Calendar from The Tea Girl – Day 10

I feel so spoilt this week – my tea advents have been AMAZING! This was no slouch either! I LOVE french toast, and I’ve had a french toast tea at some point (think it was by DT) and it was tasty yuminess. Something about maple in teas just makes me happy.

This one – smells just wonderful! So maple, cinnamon, breakfast! Steeped for 2 and a half mins with boiling water…next time might use a cooler temp, as the flavors here really shone once the cup cooled down. So tasty to drink in my afternoon meeting! This one might have to be a repurchase :)

Shae

I haven’t heard of this company before, but there are a ton of teas from them on Steepster!

mrs.stenhouse12

@ Shae – I have added about…10 so far :D almost every day of my advent calendar I’ve needed to add the tea to the database. I highly recommend them! They are based out of Edmonton, AB :)

Shae

I’m looking forward to seeing some of the other flavors you get in your advent calendar. I love hearing about new-to-me companies.

@ Shae – there are going to be some more amazing ones!! Going to get caught up on my tasting notes tonight!

DavidsTEA Matcha Advent Calendar 2020 – Day 10

Finally caught up on tasting notes! This one, I will admit – third day in a row of a good matcha and I was excited haha. The smell was so nice and natural raspberry! Prepared in the usual way, 175 degree water, whisk, top up with hot water.

Smooth, raspberry flavor, not overwhelming, reminds me of the blueberry matcha just with raspberry instead. A nice froth too! Yum yum yum – I bet this would be good iced as well. Will happily finish this one off!

Profile

Bio

Hello all, I am an electrical engineer (read:NERD :D), who is a bit obsessed with tea! I discovered loose tea in 2011, DAVIDsTEA in 2012 and it took off from there. I really started drinking/enjoying tea because it was excellent to take to class in the morning and because I can’t handle coffee! (unless it’s a really good cappuccino or latte, or decent decaf haha)

I enjoy a variety of teas – current favorites being ripe and raw pu’erhs, chinese black teas and herbal/green rooibos blends. I also enjoy white, green, and oolong teas, although I tend to drink them more in the warmer months. I have also tried matcha and guayusa, but I don’t drink them too often as I am a bit sensitive to caffeine. As a result I don’t drink black teas as often as I used to, but in moderation I can still enjoy a wide variety of teas.

Oh, and I have a severe peanut allergy and try to avoid most other nuts, just to be safe. Limits my tea choices a bit, but that’s ok. However I have tried almonds and found out I can eat them, so I have been trying a few teas with them in them.

mrs.stenhouse12’s rating system
(as of 04/19/13)

95+: Absolute favorite, will try to always have it in stock, and when I don’t I pine over it!
90-94: Awesome teas, will probably purchase again a few times
80-89: Very good tea, may restock at some point
70-79: happy to have tried and will gladly finish, but not restock
60-69: not horrible, but not the best, will finish if I have some though
50-59: not a favorite, probably will have a tough time finishing the bag
-50: yuck. I don’t want to have it ever again.
