It’s official. I love all things lavender. And I LOVE this tea. This is my first lavender tea and it’s wonderful. I don’t need to add anything to it at all. I don’t dislike chamomile but I don’t have any particular affinity for it either. In this tea, it’s perfect with the lavender. Seriously perfect. And it smells DIVINE as well. Butiki teas, where have you been my whole life?!?!

Well, this tea works as advertised! I’ve been up working today since 5am (it’s now 3:30pm) and I am bouncing off the walls after drinking this tea- in a good way! This is going to be my new work tea. It’s great for that afternoon slump! It tastes like a generic caramel black tea…still good, but nothing special in the taste department.

I just got my first Butiki order!! So excited!! I’m back home and no longer super sick, so I decided to try some Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black this morning. First, I must say yyyyuuuummmm. I’m a big fan. I didn’t really taste the syrup-y flavor that I’ve heard about, but I’m pretty congested right now so my taste buds are muted. It tasted more like honey to me. And I’ll just put it out there, this is my favorite non-flavored black tea now!

I found this tea at Whole Foods the last time I was in MD visiting the boyfriend. I’m drinking it while he makes me an omelette; I’m a lucky girl! Anyway, I like the ceylon base of this tea a lot and there is a hint of an almond aftertaste but it’s very subtle. Overall, it’s a very pleasant tea, but I much prefer the almond tea I get from Coffee and Tea Ltd.

I brewed my 2nd cup much longer (I forgot about it on the counter for a while) and didn’t get any bitterness but the almond flavor was much stronger.

I’m at the airport sipping this one (thanks for the free WiFi, MSP!). A Starbucks was directly next to my gate, but I am not a fan of Tazo tea. I trekked about halfway down the concourse to Dunn Brothers instead to get this tea. Totally worth it! One of the things I like best about this tea is the black tea base is still the main flavor. The vanilla enhances the flavor rather than masking it. I’m off to spend the weekend with the BF :). Anyone have any tea recommendations for the Washington DC area (DC proper, Bethesda, Rockville)?

Why do you travel so much?

mj

Mostly because my boyfriend lives in Maryland, my family lives in Florida, and I live in Minneapolis. The BF and I have been dating long distance for almost 4 years! I also travel for scientific conferences for work and when I can afford it, I just travel for fun :-). I have a serious case of wanderlust.

So good this morning! I tend to get into tea ruts and drink the same ones over and over again, but Steeptster is inspiring me to add more variety. I’m not-so-patiently waiting for my Butiki tea order to arrive. I can’t wait to try all the teas I ordered and all the samples!!

This is basically cinnamon tea. I also get a little bit of cardamom and maybe some cloves. I can’t taste any of the oolong. I feel this way about a lot of chai though. I’m not a fan. It’s kind of tough to get through the whole cup because the cinnamon is so strong it pretty much smacks you in the face. It was a poor choice for first thing in the morning.

I decided to retry this tea because the BF was so sweet to try to buy me yummy tea and I only tried it once. The first time it was HORRIBLE, but I’m really glad that I tried it again because it was actually quite pleasant! My suspicion is that I steeped it incorrectly last time, but I’ve changed too many variables to know for sure. It is older, I only steeped it for 5 minutes (last time I left the tea in the cup the whole time), and I also added milk this time. Milk may have also been key. I should increase my n for this study (translation: try it more times :-) )This time I got mostly chocolate with spices with a hint of orange. Last time, it tasted like a zombie orange would if such a thing were possible. Also, I went to Ikea and got tins to store my looseleaf tea. They are magnetic so I can stick them to the side of my refrigerator AND I got to use my label maker on them. I’m quite pleased.

I tried cold-brewing this time. This tea is just as delicious cold brewed! It could have been a bit stronger, but other than that it was one of the most delicious cold teas I have ever had. Since I am from the southern US (Florida), that’s saying something! I used 2 tsp into 500mL of cold water and then let it sit for 24 hrs in the refrigerator. It was perfect on my walk to work this morning and I will definitely make this again, but maybe with more tea. Thanks to Courtney for the cold-brewing instructions!

Sounds like a yummy one!

Bio

Tea-obsessed, book worm scientist.

I love black tea, especially Chinese black tea- I’m looking at you Fujians and Yunnans! I also enjoy Indian teas, mostly first flush darjeelings (and a select few assams).
I think I’m recently starting to like oolongs better though- gasp! I’ve been cheating on my black teas with all these lovely, alluring green floral oolongs. Sorry I’m not sorry.
White tea gets a lot of love too! I am particularly fond of silver needle whites.
I can’t seem to appreciate green teas and rooibos is foul, IMO.

Other interests: Books! Board games! Nerdy entertainment like Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones, Sherlock, all the nature documentaries, etc etc. Also Disney!

I’m up for swaps!
