This tea is not bad, it’s just not for me. I really liked how the chai spices mixed with rooibos in the Choice Rooibos Chai, and I’ve enjoyed a couple rooibos teas mixed with vanilla; however, this fruit/rooibos combination isn’t my thing. I can taste the rooibos, but the predominant flavor is definitely orange. I’ll continue to drink this tea until I get through the box, but I don’t see myself purchasing it again. Maybe I’ll mix one bag of this with a bag of the rooibos chai to see if it can be salvaged as a combination tea.

I depleted my rooibos stores the other day, and bought this tea and the Choice Rooibos Superfruit so that I have some nice antioxidant-packed, caffeine-free evening beverages (I can’t seem to get into chamomile). The chai spices work very well with the rooibos. They are not overwhelming, but they definitely are stronger than the rooibos flavor. The local tea store near my sister’s house has some decent loose rooibos that I’ll have to purchase next month. In the meantime, I will enjoy this tea. Hopefully the Rooibos Superfruit is a good one as well.

I bought this tea a few months ago and kind of forgot about it, so when I made it today, I expected to be disappointed. It’s not a tea I would keep stocked regularly, but it’s a decent bagged Darjeeling green tea. I used two bags for 16 ounces, and the taste was slightly light for my liking. It has a nice fruity Darjeeling flavor, and no bitterness, but I may try backing off to 12 ounces for 2 bags to see if I can get a little more flavor out of it.

My favorite local store always has a great variety of teas from this brand, and I am always happy with their products. The box indicates that the tea is a combination of Ceylon and Assam. I definitely enjoyed the smoothness of the Ceylon. There’s a little Assam kick, good for the second cup of the day…I would definitely prefer more Assam to get going on a weekday. If I had to rate Cheapster Steepster English Breakfast Teas, I would put this one above Twinings, but below my beloved Ahmad. :P Ahmad somehow finds a way to get the right combination of smoothness and strength into a regular tea bag…quite an art.

One of my coworkers brought me a few bags of this tea, not knowing that I’m a huge Ahmad Tea fan. Just like all of their other teas, I love this one! It has decent strength, but is very smooth and has great flavor. This company is the best, I feel like their bagged black teas are just as good as their loose leaf black teas.

I’m at a training this week, and this tea has been available every morning, along with the usual suspects: Lipton, Bigelow, etc. It’s a nice tea, nothing special, kind of plain, but it does the job and is much better than the other teas mentioned. It’s slightly bitter, but not too bad. I’m very appreciative that it has been offered. If you come across it, give it a try. :)

This is a nice, inexpensive ($5 for 120 bags), convenient green tea option when I’m on the run and need a bagged tea. As long as your water is cooled down to 170-180 degrees Fahrenheit, this one doesn’t seem to get bitter. I usually use two bags for 16 ounces of water. I like my green teas a little stronger than this one, but the flavor is solid, and fuller than their Dragonwell green tea. I like the Dragonwell tea too, but definitely prefer this one.

Another strong Assam tea from Ahmad. This one tastes very similar to the malty Kalami Assam. I believe the Kalami is the long leaf version, and Barooti is the broken leaf version. A person with a more discerning palate than mine would probably be able to detect the difference in quality, but, so far, I think I like this one as much as the Kalami Assam. I’ll definitely be enjoying more taste tests to compare the two!

I have yet to come across an Ahmad tea that I didn’t love. I stuck with their black teas up until now, but I decided to give this green tea a try. It’s a very nice smoky yet smooth gunpowder. Every loose leaf gunpowder green tea I have ever tried holds up to multiple steepings like a champ, and this tea is no exception!
Just like the other loose leaf teas from Ahmad, it was crazy inexpensive. If you live in North Carolina, and you’re a fan of Ahmad teas, definitely check out Harmony Mediterranean Market in Cary!

Bio

I’m a tea novice, and I’m loving my introduction to the World of Tea. I started getting into tea about 4 years ago when I lived in Brooklyn, NY. At first, I stayed with green teas, and took black teas completely for granted. However, in the last couple years I have enthusiastically added them to my daily routine. I love strong Assam black teas in the morning, and Japanese green teas in the afternoon, especially matcha and gyokuro. I have recently become a big fan of Keemuns. I’m looking forward to learning about new teas on this site and talking to other tea lovers!

As far as ratings go, don’t trust me. I’m a high rater, and I’m easily impressed. If I rate a tea lower than 70 (which is going to happen rarely, it seems), I probably will not drink that tea again. I will splurge for some teas at times, but I love a bargain, so you will often see me celebrating under-appreciated everyday teas.
