I received this as a sample from Yunomi.us. This was admittedly my first taste of a bancha but I was pretty impressed. I always read about how bancha is supposed to be one of the lowest grades of green tea so I wasn’t expecting anything that good.

Honestly I did find this to be an extremely drinkable green tea. It had a much lighter green taste as compared to most green teas. It had a slight sweetness to it with some very slight green hints. I may try to steep a bit more at a time next time and see what that produces. Overall this was a pretty good tea experience.

I really like Bancha… actually, sometimes I like it more than Sencha. I have a tin of Harney and Son’s Bancha that is kind of my go-to green tea… just goes great with everything. I think their “Tokyo” blend uses their Bancha base, too, and that blend is really great.

It is definitely more of what I would describe as a delicate flavor. I’d probably recommend something like this to a green tea newcomer if they are iffy on the grassy tastes.

DeliriumsFrogs

Yeah, I agree. It’s more subtle in its ‘vegetal’ qualities… :)

Yes ‘vegetal’ qualities is a good way to put it :D

I’m admittedly usually more of a fan of green teas but this one might just convert me. First off the smell, it’s like nothing I’ve ever smelled from a tea before. There are somewhat malty/bready type hints mixed with a unique earthy quality. As far as taste goes, again it’s not like anything I’ve tried before. There’s a definite malt/bread quality to the tast, and there’s some additional grape hints to it. I did not detect any bitterness at all in this tea. Honestly it’s one of the smoother teas I’ve ever tried. I would highly recommend this tea to anyone. It’s definitely of quality.

Still really enjoy this one as an after breakfast tea. Feels nice and refreshing. It also tends to sit better for my stomach that some other teas early in the day. Overall I’d definitely buy this tea again. Not sure I’d enjoy it as much later in the day. The citrus just begs to be enjoyed in the morning.

I’m really impressed with this tea! It definitely tastes roasty like genmaicha but in my opinion has a better overall flavor. I personally really am enjoying this cup versus the genmaicha I wasn’t a big fan of. This tea would go well with a grilled type of meal or as an afternoon tea. Definitely nothing sweet about this tea, it hits much more of a savory note.

Yup. I need to order some of this tea. :D

I’m thinking once my sample is gone I’ll have to as well :)

The more times I drink this tea the more I think I detect some sort of citrus type note behind it. It is rather faint but it’s there. I’m also learning to reduce my steep time with this one as it can get overly strong pretty fast. This one also doesn’t steep as well a second time. All in all it is still a good black tea that pairs well with meals.

This tea was pretty amazing for a fuka style. It was a bit different than I usually like my green teas [i prefer them lighter steamed] but it was still really good. I kept thinking how smooth it was and that it had an almost buttery affect on my mouth as I sipped it. I would highly recommend this tea in general but more so for a seasoned tea pallet and not so much for a newcomer.

This tea is remarkably good steeped multiple times. It’s also a very good tea to replace a morning coffee. Can feel the caffeine and it can be brewed strong enough to even rival coffee. Can also be steeped less time for a lighter lift in the morning. Delicious in general.

1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Haha just noticed on this review I state it is good steeped multiple times and on my next review I say it isn’t Contradictions much? To clarify, the reason behind the contradiction is that I’m learning more and more about tea flavors, steeping, etc… so my opinion simply changed as I thought more about it.

Nice refreshing version of a green tea. Leaves are beautiful and large when steeped. Your typical green flavors with a hint of lemon or something citrusy.

Mmm just as delicious as the first time I made it! Even my wife said “it wasn’t horrible” and she hates any tea herbal or otherwise! Still reminds me of a molasses cookie hehe. {Note: I put this on the wrong brand. This was actually “Our Home Tea, Vanilla Rooibos”]

I’m a bit newer to the tea scene than many of the tea masters around steepster. But I am always excited to try a new tea or tea preparation method.

When I’m not enjoying a great cup of tea I am usually gaming, reading, enjoying some Anime, or studying Japanese. Although lets face it, tea goes great WITH all those activities too ;-).
