Happy Thanksgiving! Yesterday I was obliged to call the friends who invited me to their thanksgiving and give them my regrets. Although I am marginally better I am far from well, and who wants someone who can’t breathe without coughing to sit next to them at a crowded table?

So I did make the apple pie I had intended to bring. I used the crescent roll dough to make ham and cheese roll ups. The apple pie turned out very well. It is very sweet, though (I add kraft caramels and walnuts to my apples), so I decided to pair it with a straight black tea. This tea is a bit bitter. Not a favorite at all. I managed to finish the cup, but I don’t think I would ever brew it up again, so it’s a good thing it is gone.

That was my Thanksgiving. And I am not complaining, because I am feeling better.

I am glad you are feeling better, and I am eyeing the crescent and the leftover ham and turkey with new ideas now….Happy Thanksgiving, and continued recovery to you!

Pie is good medicine :) Hope you’re feeling stronger by the minute!

Thank you all! I am back from a quick trip to the post office, the grocery store and the yarn store. I was a good girl and got ONLY what I went for at the yarn store. Now I am wiped out and plan to nap. So I am definitely on the mend, but not yet well. It is crazy warm here today, like 20 degrees warmer than the average. If I had more energy I would like to be out and about.

I know what an exercise of craft-store will that is! I’m down to nothing but scraps that I may be able to stretch into some kid-sized hats and I’m itching to shop…

@gmathis I have far, far too much yarn already! My brother texted me a link to a hat pattern he really liked. It’s a Scandinavian ski hat pattern. I think that was a strong hint for a Christmas present. I went through my yarn and didn’t find anything I thought would work perfectly with the pattern. The local yarn store was having 20% off this afternoon only of all yarn. I had planned to virtuously ignore that sale, but … Yeah. But I *d8d only buy the two skeins I needed for this project!

My crochet skills are just barely past “confident beginner.” I have to stick with patterns I can memorize after three rows … having to consult charts and long lists of hdcs and sk2’s inevitably leads to a misshapen lump! However, an easy, repetitious pattern is extremely soothing when I’m too tired to read.

@gmathis This is my favorite kind of pattern. It feels kinda zen to just do the same stitch over and over and end up with a handy dishcloth or something else useful.

I love cats. I love alone time. I love sitting indoors on a cold winter night with a book or my knitting while drinking tea. I don’t have a sense of smell, so many of the more subtle flavors of tea escape me. Two of the things I CAN taste are bitter and sour, so any tea that has even a slightly bitter taste is nasty for me. And what others might perceive as pleasant tartness may be horribly sour for me.

I’m also a writer. I love writing, and a mug of hot tea helps me get through the hours sitting in front of the computer. Although I’m a comparatively new tea drinker, I’m jumping in feet first. Feel free to recommend any teas you think I might enjoy.

100-91 – Wowza! I want to keep this tea in the cupboard all the time.
75-90 – Very nice. It would be good to have this tea on hand from time to time.
60-74 – OK. Wouldn’t keep it in the cupboard, but I would drink it again.
45-59 – If a friend served this I would drink it to be polite, but it’s not really my cuppa.
Lower than 45 – Blech. It was too sour or bitter for my taste. Would not drink it again.
