253 Tasting Notes
This tea is so appropriately named! Finally getting around to this one from the sampler that I bought months ago and it really does taste like dark chocolate without tasting like chocolate. So that means it tastes like dark. Wait, what?
Made this is my yixing and my tea pet thinks it’s delicious!
Flavors: Dark Chocolate
Preparation
I really tried to like this tea since I enjoyed the others in the sampler pack so much, but this one didn’t do it for me. I found the flavor weak and the taste generic even after increasing steeping times. Eventually after just a couple of short gong fu steeps (like 4 or 5) the flavor was all gone, so…yeah not the best shou experience I’ve had.
Preparation
This was from the $5 Ripe Puer Sampler. MAN this was some good shou! Such a strong, rich flavor. Reminded me of dark chocolate, just not bitter. It brews up pretty dark in color as well. The taste was much sweeter than other ripe puerhs I’ve had. It also had a really interesting savory smell that’s kind of hard to describe. Another review mentioned leather. Maybe that’s it.
I used boiling water in my 4 oz yixing pot and did 3 steepings (rinse, rinse, 5s, 10s, 15s). I soooo wanted to have more, but I didn’t want to go into caffeine overload (which is very easy for me). I’ll be saving this for tomorrow to enjoy again!
Flavors: Dark Chocolate, Earth, Sweet

I am so very happy that you enjoy this tea, my friend! This is one that I sit down to on a regular basis. There is mos def a leather presence here. I get that from this tea all the time. Thanks for writing up your thoughts on this! Grateful, Garret

This is either my first or second unflavored white tea to try. I’ve always read that it has a very light, subtle taste and that’s very true. I think white tea’s just not my thing. But you can tell, however that the leaves themselves are very high quality. So cute and fuzzy! And most of them are whole leaves. How do they keep them from breaking?!

Soooo good! Floral, perfumey, a hint of vegetal if you squint your eyes hard enough. You can really taste the difference when you’re drinking high quality tea!

158 degrees?! At that temperature is it even still tea?!? Well, they know their tea best right? :P
I made this tea gongfu style
1st steeping: 40 seconds at 160F. Hmm pretty tasty but slightly weak. Sweet buttery flavor. I think if I bump up the temperature the flavor won’t be so weak.
2nd steeping: 40 seconds at 180F. Oh no, the milky buttery flavor is gone and it’s all vegetal now. That means I put the temperature too high :(
3rd: 50 seconds at 160F. Jackpot! After lowering the temp back down again the wonderful sweet buttery flavor is back. Take a lesson from me, increase the time, not the temperature with this one (or if that doesn’t work, add more leaves!)

Nantou Four Seasons by In Pursuit of Tea was the first type of oolong I ever tried, and it made me fall in love. This one is no different. It definitely didn’t disappoint! I used the whole package in my 120ml/4 oz yixing pot and at first it was a bit bitter and I realized I wasn’t getting much tea. I opened my pot up and realized that there were so many leaves crammed in there I could have filled the pot twice!! Once I removed half the leaves the sweet floral shined right through. Moral of the story: weight my leaves next time! :P

Tried this today and it was really good! I rinsed it 3 times and had to through out first 2 infusions because they were too bitter, but after that I got my steeping times just right and drank 4 or 5 infusions. It got sweeter and sweeter as I kept going. Will consider purchasing this! Maybe I’ll for it for Christmas? :P
