drank Sweet Almond Green by DAVIDsTEA

Advent calendar [4/24]

Alright, I was a little scared that this one was going to taste like the Amaretto tea that David’s had several years ago.

Don’t get me wrong— I like almond flavoured things. I like almond flavoured things that have a balance of flavours, and don’t taste sickeningly like strong alcohol. I think David’s got this blend pretty well right when they paired it off with walnut.

I remember standing in the kitchen this morning after I’d brewed this tea for just over a minute. I poured a little into a pyrex bowl that I reserve for “tea-checking” and making sure I don’t pour an oversteeped or understeeped batch into my travel mug for work. It was so smooth and almost creamy somehow. I was surprised that it was nothing like Amaretto.

I drank all of it before even getting halfway through my commute. Then I got to work and actually felt sad that I’d left the rest of the sample at home. I really wanted to have more than the small cup I’d made.

Now I’m drinking some gyokuro genmaicha to pass the time, but it’s not the same. It doesn’t have the smooth creaminess that this tea had.

Forgot to add: Very happy that this tea has such simple ingredients. Green tea, almonds, marigold flowers, cornflower petals. With natural almond flavouring*

Pretty sure natural almond flavouring could mean bugger all in terms of being from anything remotely close to a real almond, but still, at least a +1 for no Stevia.

Flavors: Almond, Cookie, Creamy, Walnut

Glad this ended up working out for you and didn’t taste like Amaretto!

Absolutely! There definitely wasn’t that overpowering almond flavour. I’m kind of glad they didn’t bring that one back this year.

I was skeptical of this tea as well! Glad we both enjoyed it :). I also remember that amaretto tea- I liked it at first but got sick of it quick.

My foray into steeping happened with tin of Oreo cookie and salted chocolate caramel tea, back in college in 2009. I probably bought them for the novelty more than the taste— which sounds like a reason for many of my college-era purchases. The lovely little tea store was bought out by David’s Tea soon after I finished college. While I do enjoy getting tea from places other than malls, it’s difficult to find quality without going online. Most of my stash ends up being from there due to convenience.

I’m an early childhood educator. Tea is a big part of my daily life. I’ve yet to find anything as soothing and as energizing as it.

I’m on a big kick of blacks and herbals, especially straight ones.

90-100: Must get more of this. One sample isn’t enough.
80-89: Great! Would drink it again sometime
60-79: Decent, but probably won’t go back for more
40-59: Glad I tried, but one cup is enough
~40: No thanks. Never again!
