1473 Tasting Notes
When we came home with the summer teas (minus the mango fruit punch, which we remembered from last year), De wanted to try this one first. So I put it in my new 3 in 1 pitcher (I love that thing!!) and set it to cold steep overnight.
I didn’t think she’d like it due to the licorice root, but we both really enjoyed it. It tasted like the Señorial Sangria soft drink I drank like a FIEND when I was younger. That alone is enough to make me want more of it. And my in-laws love me for my sangria in the summer, so I feel this might be an excellent addition to that.
All in all, it is a great summer drink that I think we need to get more of. My only complaint is that it’s a touch cloying in the sweetness area, likely due to the licorice root, but that is work-aroundable.
Preparation
I liiiiive! So much has happened in the last few weeks, but the biggest is that my wife, De, quit her job with the abusive boss and found a new one with better benefits and pay within two weeks! Go De!!
And we got a tortoise, a redfoot, named Da Hong Pao, aka Big Red Robe because most of our pets have tea-themed names (an orange cat named Pekoe and a grey cat named Earlie). We call her Pao for short .
Anyway, onto the tea! We finally got to get our hands on the summer collection (it came out THE DAY AFTER De quit her job, so money was not to be spent of frivolity) and this is the tea I just had to try to go. So good. So weird. It tastes like that juicy fruit (I think) gum that was mint on the outside, but the middle was liquid watermelon. Weird. But incredibly refreshing and enjoyable. I’m just not sure if it’s something I need to keep around. I got 20 grams to try coldbrewed at home, we’ll see what the verdict is!
Congratulations to De on the new job! That’s great that she was able to find such a good job so soon. (Maybe I should get her to rub my head for luck?)
I will pass it on! I was extremely impressed with her, he treated the job search like a job. She’d start at 9 and apply to jobs until 5, with a few breaks here and there. Actually, what we did is set up alarms on my phone every hour on the hour, and when it went off, we would get up and clean or just chill for a few minutes, etc etc. Do anything other than jobhunt. And then at a quarter after, she’d go back to work. And at 5, she was done, no more jobhunting for the day, we’re going to focus on something else now.
Within two weeks, she set up six interviews and two call-backs from the first round of interviews.
This is still a tasty, tasty tea, but I’m starting to notice a pattern. When I cold brew rooibos, it seems to trigger a migraine of epic proportions. Sometimes bad enough to send me to a dark room with an icepack. So I’m going to give all my rooibos that I only have cold to my sister in law and in a few days I’m going to try some hot to see if it triggers the same result.
This is the last of the samples given to me by Whittard of Chelsea and it is wonderful!
The hibiscus is not overwhelming in this blend, thank goodness, it is just pure, blueberry deliciousness. I coldbrewed it overnight and split it with the wife and we both love it.
I don’t know what else to say, but this is a delicious brew. Oooh, I should try this in some pancakes…
Preparation
Part of the incredibly generous sample pack sent to me by Whittard of Chelsea!
I had to try this one coldbrewed. I just had to. And I wanted to see if it was as good as Goji Pop. I took a sip of this before I added my sweetener and holy hibiscus, Batman! Tart as sin and not half as fun. But the sugar calmed it down a bit, thank goodness.
I first discovered the flavor of acai through Red Leaf Tea’s Brazilian Acai Matcha, which I adored. To me, acai tastes like the bastard son of blueberry and raspberry. I really like it. It’s rounded out and juicy like blueberry, but it has an edge, like raspberry.
This coldbrew captures that perfectly. And with the goji, it is out of this world. It’s incredibly refreshing on this hungover day, and I’d even pick it over Goji Pop! The only reason I might keep Goji Pop stocked instead of this is because DavidsTea is much more accessible for me. Still, I’ve got enough of both to give me a yummy summer.
I didn’t like that the package wasn’t resealable in any way, in fact, you had to cut it open. Luckily I have a few empty tins kicking about. Also, again, so much hibiscus. Though it is making me start to wonder, is 45% hibiscus normal for an herbal, or is it a high percentage? I almost wish the percentage of each ingredient wasn’t listed, because without that, I wouldn’t have been so focused on the amount of hibiscus when I first tried it.
Preparation
This is just as tasty cold as it is hot, if not more so. Creamy rhubarb goodness. This is a tea I am absolutely in love with. To cold brew, I put about three teaspoons in my DavidsTea Mason Jar that holds 25 oz, and I filled it with water and let it chill overnight. It’s not bitter at all and I love it. It’s great. If you have any of this and like cold tea, do yourself a favor and cold brew it.
Preparation
This is my favorite black tea ever, and so it’s the tea I always reach for when I find myself in need of a hot toddy. I’ve been fighting the flu for a few days now and every time it seems to get better, it ends up getting a lot worse. Ugh. So, since the wifey is have skype-drinky-time with her friends, I’m joining in.
I love this tea.
Preparation
I thought I hadn’t reviewed this tea, but apparently I did. Oh well. My throat is crazy sore and the chamomile is helping tons, and for that I am grateful. Welp, since I have had this before, I’m going to join my wife in the tealcohol and add a splash of blueberry pancake booze into my cup. Yummy. Maybe it will help my throat too!
