I rarely crave things the way I crave this tea. Usually my craving are more vague, something fruity or something minty. But when I crave genmaicha, I want genmaicha and nothing else will do until I’ve had a cuppa. It’s rare, this craving, but it is strong.

And this blend always hits the spot. Roasty and toasty and perfect. Really helps my often-angry tummy too.

Made a pot of this to share with the wife since she didn’t think she’d ever tried it before.

See where it says “last edited by De”?

Yeah, De is my wife. She even reviewed it. Her first impression tonight? “It tastes kinda tingly.” The last line of her review from 9 months ago? “Left my mouth feeling a little tingly.”

That’s my girl.

I stand by my earlier review. Not as creamy as Santa’s Secret but creamier than Read My Lips.

My first cup of Santa’s Secret for the season! So much love for this blend. It will always, always be my favorite.

My morning tea. I wasn’t quite awake and so I let it steep for three minutes instead of two and oh my lawd it is tart. Stupid hibiscus, I forgot you were in there. After a night of tummy trouble, this was not helpful.

So this was a bit of an experiment, but it worked out really well! I dumped the last teaspoon or so of this beauty into my bubble teapot, but it didn’t seem like near enough. I still had the leaves from my bedtime cup of Bubbie’s last night, so I snagged that and added those leaves to the fresh. It turned out so yummy! And it resteeped like a dream, I had two full 24 ounce teapots and then my wife used the leaves for one last steep in a 12 ounce perfect mug. Frankly, I feel like we could have kept going, but this tea is so heavy, flavor-wise, that 48 ounces was really all I could handle. As the steepings progressed, the oolong did come out more, but the other flavors didn’t disappear, they simply became a bit more muted.

This smells sooooo good.

It tastes soooo good. Much happiness.

The flavors work really well together and it is just wonderful. I was worried that the rose would make it soapy, but I’m not really tasting it, thank goodness. The cinnamon is nice but not too strong, and the nutty flavor is just perfect.

I wonder how it resteeps….

Meh.

It’s okay. I’ve had better, I’ve had worse. The licorice was really present, and it just didn’t knock my socks off. I added a touch of almond milk to try and bring out the creaminess, but it didn’t work. Oh well. It won’t be hard to drink the rest of my 20 g, but I don’t feel the need to buy more.

drank Apple Custard by DAVIDsTEA
1473 tasting notes

Well, color me impressed! I sighed and rolled my eyes at the sight of another bulky herbal and I wasn’t expecting much. I have never had custard, though I have had pudding, but the wife informs me that they are different and I am a weird American. Regardless, she says it smelled like custard in the bin, so that was an exciting note. But after the disappointment that was Sweet Apple Cider, I’m wary of their apple blends.

We steeped this one up while getting ready to do dishes, and the kitchen smells amazing. We used the whole 20 g for a bubble teapot and let it steep for 5-8 minutes. Not quite sure, we were putzing around the kitchen. But now I have my Hook mug full of yummy and it is delicious. I will back up their claim and agree that it is the creamiest tea I’ve had. I love the chamomile in it and it’s the prefect tea to cosy up to before bed. It really does taste like an apple custard, which I’m told is like pudding but less sweet.

This is definitely a rebuy for me. I wish it weren’t so heavy, but it is truly delicious. I am glad it’s in the Advent Calendar because I think my mom would really enjoy it and I look forward to sharing it with her.

I snagged an advent calendar! And I even managed to grab one in store for my sister in law. After last year’s hour sell-out, I wasn’t taking any chances. I had mine shipped to my folks in Tennessee, because that’s where we’ll be spending Christmas and it seemed like a good way to have a variety of teas on hand without carting them across the border.

While we were at the mall, I picked up 20g of the new teas and this is the one I am the most excited about. I adore the Sugar Plum Fairy tea by Celestial Seasonings and stock up every time I see it. I’ve been dying to find a loose leaf replacement and I hope this is the one.

It smells so good. So good. Cinnamony goodness. The tea itself is yummy, but there’s an odd licorice sweetness in the middle of the sip. I do not think I’ll be replacing my beloved sugar plum fairy with this any time soon, and I don’t even know if I’ll restock after this 20g runs out. I need another cup or two to help me decide.

I stopped into DAVIDs today and they had a giant display of advent calendars. I passed, since it’s full of stuff I already have, but it doesn’t look like there’ll be issues with availability this year.

Daddyselephant

Actually, they sold out online around 6-7 last night. But that’s way better than selling out in an hour, like last year!

Formerly aisling of tea, now you can call me ele .

“You can forgive a murder, but never a mistake while preparing tea.” Chinese proverb

Labels? Here you go: Femme, Wife, Lesbian, Homemaker, Happy. Don’t forget tea fanatic!

New label as of May, 2015: Diabetic. I’m using tea to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings and keep me hydrated without hurting my system or messing with my blood sugar.

Ah, tea. My love for you is ever changing. At my last update, I was all about the rooibos and now I hardly drink it. I only occasionally had an oolong and now I have one just about every day. I’ve learned the art of resteeping and coldbrewing and kombucha. I have a lovely little tea pet named…well, I haven’t decided on a name for him yet. I also have five! live pets, a tabby cat named Rosabella Francis (Bella for short), a ginger cat named Orange Julius Pekoe (Pekoe), a white and grey cat named Earl Jean Grey (Earlie), a tuxedo cat (and the only boy in the house) Prince Erik Darien Darjeeling (JiJi) and a red foot tortoise named Da Hong Pao (Pao). So if you see me referring to my girls, I don’t have kids, just animals.

As for tea, I love oolongs, herbals, and black tea. Since I am no longer working, I no longer feel the constant need for a mate energy boost, though I do still reach for it from time to time. I also drink less matcha, though I do throw a spoonful or two in when I’m making smoothies. Most of my tea I drink coldbrewed, and since I discovered coldbrewed rooibos was giving me headaches, I’m drinking less and less of it. Straight pu-erh is not a thing I enjoy, but there are a few flavored blends I like. Greens are still too finicky for me to bother with hot, but they make great cold brews.

I am by no means a tea purist. I greatly enjoy flavored teas and I put stevia in all of my teas. It’s just how I do.

I think I’m going to name my tea pet Mr. Turtle. Even though he’s a tortoise.
