Another tea from the variety pack. Yep, this is Chamomile. Floral and nice for night time. I`ll use it up no problem.

2016 Autumn Laoshan Bilochun

Guess who went from having a permanent part time to a permanent full time job within like 3 weeks? This lady right here!!! I start on Jan 3- what a great Christmas Present :)

Anywho, this tea is quite tasty- buttery and vegetal- just like the 2015 variety. Uping my rating a bit- I thought the tea had a tendancy to bitterness but it largely depends if I use a bit too much leaf of not. Lovely tea.

Flavors: Butter, Vegetal

Congratulations! Permanent full time—wooohooo! Delighted for you. I just hope you’ll continue to have time for tea. :)

I will always have time for tea :) I always have bags of herbal teas in my backpack for work (I usually drink 1 cup of green tea in the morning before heading out the door + 1 in my travel mug and that’s all my caffeine for one day).

Woot!! Congrats on the job :)

Thanks!!

drank Lemon and Ginger by Twinings

One of the teas from the variety pack.

When it comes to lemon and ginger teas I prefer lemongrass + ginger. This tea however has citric acid in it instead. It gives the taste of real lemon+ a balanced amount of ginger, but unfortunately the acidity gives me heartburn. Nice taste but the remaining bags are going to the husband.

I was down to one “normal” herbal (i.e. ones that aren’t used for lattes, iced teas, sickness, etc) so I ran to safeway to pick up some different varieties. You know, it’s interesting: I helped out at the homeless shelter today for the first time and people were kind, appreciative and jovial. I went to a couple of stores (LCBO, shoppers, etc) and people were angsty. Really makes you think, eh?

Anyways, onto this tea: this is your standard vanilla rooibos, which to me means not enough flavouring and tastes more like rooibos than anything. I’ll use it up well enough but will not repurchase since it does not “wow” me.

Last GCTTB tea that I picked! Wow sampling went fast!

tbh I only get a light taste of vanilla and fruit. When it comes to rooibos teas I like the flavouring STRONG. This is alright, I’ll use it up at work.

GCTTB tea 7/8 that I picked.

Similar to the Evening lights tea I picked, I did not find this tea to have a prominent licorice taste like other reviewers did (and once again, that’s prob due to my shorter steep time). about 2tsp, 200F water, 5 min. I found this had a mint taste, followed by a mix of floral, then maybe a bit of licorice? Altogether it’s alright. I’ll use it up no problem.

First Saturday off in 6 weeks :). Enjoying this tea and relaxing for a while before tackling the to do list. My 21h/week job starts monday and I therefore know that I’m going to have a lot of time on my hands other days, but I still feel like I should keep my hands busy.

I’ve had this tea 3-4 times now. Always 8oz of 175F water, 3 steeps (about 30 sec, 45 sec, 1 min). Buttery and Vegetal- delish. I find when I overleaf I get a bitter taste so I’ve been cautious. Otherwise a really lovely tea. As mentioned, now that I will have more days off for a while I will be enjoying more of these delicious teas :)

drank Marrakech Chai by Sencha Tea Bar
415 tasting notes

Last tea from Sencha Tea Bar I got on my anniversary weekend. I have to admit, I’m biased against this from the beginning. I’m more of a straight green tea drinker, def not a chai.

Anyways, this tea did pair well with the oatmeal I had. This tea tasted like cinnamon and cloves and other baking spices. It’s alright, but not something I really go for. I’ll use it up for work but once it’s gone I won’t miss it.

GCTTB tea 6/8 that I picked.

Always wanted to try This company- glad I got the chance! This tea is pretty good- most prominent taste is floral but there’s a slight vegatel taste at the end of the sip. Very smooth without bitterness. I am more partial to vegetal greens but I will have no prob using this one up.

GCTTB tea.

Sorry, but this tea is not for me. I didn’t know what to expect (I just grabbed this cause it was a green) and was shocked to taste strong smoke. I do not care for smoky teas unfortunately. I gave the rest to the husband but it wasn’t for him either. At least it was just a sample though!

Profile

Bio

I used to drink coffee, but it started to hurt my stomach so I switched to tea. A friend of mine introduced me to DAVID’s TEA and I couldn’t stop after that! I’ve now been expanding my scope beyond DAVIDs away from “candy-like teas” into more natural teas or flavourings. Current favourite stores include International House of Tea (iHOT) and Verdant Tea.

When it comes to tea ratings, I usually only ever rate them once. I know a lot of people on steepster do many tasting notes for the same teas depending on their mood, but I prefer to rate once and if my opinion changes, I will delete the old note and rate again. How I rate teas goes as following:

1-49: Teas I won’t buy again. Either the taste is disgusting to me, or it’s too bland, etc. I’m most likely not even going to finish the tin/bag.

50-59: Teas I wouldn’t buy again; I have to force myself to drink the whole cup to not waste it.

60-69: I’ll finish the cup and even the bag/tin, but I wouldn’t buy these teas again. Teas of this rating are “lacking something”.

70-79:Teas that are pretty good and ones I might buy again. Usually these teas are ones I have to be “in the mood for” and drink occasionally.

80-89: Great teas! Ones I will drink several times a week and often have in my stash :).

90-100: Favourite must-have teas!

My favourite types of tea are green tea and different types of “natural” herbal tea (different herbs, natural flavourings, etc). I cannot drink black or oolong teas due a sensitive stomach. I don’t really go for white tea due to its cost and the fact that it has just a little caffeine (if I want caffeine I’ll just go for a green tea and if I don’t I’ll go for a herbal-no sense on just having a little caffeine). I also like to do iced teas in the summer time, and then I’ll gravitate towards herbal fruit blends that are bagged to cut costs and convenience (it’s easier to throw out bags than clean a filter). Flavours I don’t care for include anything too tart, bitter, artificial, overly spicy or overly sweet.
Also, when I have time (usually when I’m not working much) I like to make tea lattes out of different rooibos blends.

My everyday green tea is Gunpowder since it is strong and not sensitive to temperatures or steeping time which is something I cannot be bothered with when I’m getting ready for work. Other greens I enjoy are dragonwell, sencha, and different Chinese greens. I’m not the biggest fan of yunnan greens since they are so finicky (although I do like gyokuro)

On a day to day basis I usually have 2-3 cups of green tea and several more cups of different herbal blends.

Besides tea I also work at a couple libraries (I am finishing my library tech diploma),am in my early 20s and got married in Oct 2014.
