1759 Tasting Notes
Lots of hmmmms these days. Not a bad one. Just… Hmmmm.
This is good, and there IS toffee there. But it takes some getting used to. At first I felt as if there was something missing from the toffee, as if it was hollow. Adding a bit of sugar helped. I didn’t think milk was necessary. It’s somewhat creamy on its own. It is a bit sticky tasting, so I suppose that part is apt!
Would I have this again? Yes, as a treat! Would I buy a whole box of it? I’m honestly not sure. Maybe. Ok so a tiny box.
Thanks MissB!
This is certainly a different tea!! Not what I expected. High on the licorice, and that slight burning sensation when I have the candies. It’s sweet as well, though not overly so.
The other day I had a blend with licorice in it and I got an annoying fake sweetness there that I can barely see here.
No additives or anything, though with the amount of licorice imitating ingredients I expected to need it (help cover some of the overpowering notes).
Now, about this mushroom business. I do seem to taste a tiny bit of that, but only if I focus. Otherwise it just kinda hangs in the background and as a mild aftertaste. But then the licorice is there too so I’m noticing the menthol effect up on the roof of my mouth and the mushroom down mid tongue. Very odd indeed.
No white powder as yet, though my steep was relatively short at about two minutes.
Also, I didn’t like this hot very much at all.
Something tells me this’d go over really well if I had a head cold.
Thanks MissB!!!!!
Hmmm. I ordered this expecting to love it to bits! but strangely I’ve been enjoying my other Mandala one more.
Here, I’m not getting a lot of the complexity that others are finding. Instead, I get a lot of the heavier, more metallic notes. Mushroom and clay with a bare hint of fruit.
I’ll try it with my gaiwain and if that doesn’t work, this baby is destined for another home…
Mm, Special Dark! But, I can see where you’d taste what you do. I found it to be best when steeped in glass vs ceramic, but that’s just me. Which is the one you like more?
I’ll have to check the name when I swing back downstairs. Thought I’d reviewed it already but apparently not!!
I’ll see if glass makes a difference as well
I had a teeny bit of Pancake Breakfast left and wanted to use it up, and I’m running low on black Indian teas so I added a bunch of this! First time I ever tried it with milk. Not bad at all. Kinda like chocolate pancakes :P
Picked up at the tea festival. Thank you Capital Teas!!
A rather interesting Assam, I must say. Not quite what I expected. First impressions are of stone fruit and cocoa or maybe sweet potato. Somewhat reminiscent of white wine in the way the flavours are profiled (not in the way it tastes, just how they present the fruit aspect).
Let me rephrase. When I drink wine, the flavours hit my palate in a unique way more at the back of my throat, whereas with teas it is usually more of a full/front of mouth experiences. Atleast with black teas, which I gravitate towards. Am I the only one who finds this?
I think this may be why I find the tea to be so unique.
Also, there is a sweetness here that reminds me quite a bit of Lover’s Leap or Margaret’s Hope, only instead of raisin notes, I see sweet potato.
The first time I had this, it didn’t impress me much. Then I picked up a sample to play around with and from one cup to the next I never had consistent experiences. Today, it was quite nice overall. I still need to go in for a second brew so I’ll see what happens with that.
Atleast this is a sipdown! I’ll probably pick some more up at some point, but not for awhile. Well, til my cupboard gets down to a reasonable level. And definitely not until my finances recover from the tea festival :P
I think this is my favourite vanilla tea, ever.
Mind you I haven’t had that many and there was a time they didn’t sit well with me. But this one is simply delicious. Thank you Miss B for the sample, and Sil for coordinating things!
I had half a cup sans dairy, and half with. Without, it is quite pleasant, but with is where I find the “shortbread” aspect really comes out. Oh man, I can actually taste buttery cookie! The vanilla is a really nice addition as well, making things extra creamy.
it’s already partitioned out… once it’s in the box for the west coast or peeps here in toronto, it can’t come back out… otherwise whatshesaid would have no more caramel teas coming to her
M, it IS!!! I have only half a cups worth left or else I’d send you the rest to try :)
Sil, good point heh. In Sil we trust!
Where can it be purchased in the US? I’m only finding UK so far. Also how does it compare to GO? Sorry for the early AM questions. :P
Yep, I grabbed this in London at the most amazing location… You’re all going to start hating me for sharing tea that you can’t easily get in North America. I’m positive though that Whittard ships ask over the world, they’re just really pricey, even prior to shipping.
So glad you liked this! You got a ton more out of it than I did… Now I’ll have to try it as a latte.
No H8 MissB! Maybe a little jealousy though ;)
Did you have it with milk? I found it loads better that way
I thought I gave this away to a friend! but I didn’t! It was a bit stale already. There was no tin for it and I think this one was organic so lost flavour faster. Bah. It was great while it lasted. I’ll miss you in my cupboard Tealet.
Whatever, it was a sipdown. I had seven sipdowns!! A serious record for one day. Woot!
