1759 Tasting Notes

Picked this up at the store the other day. It was super cheap ($4.50/50g!!) and I’m lacking in black with milk options at home. Worth the risk even though EBs are such wild cards for me. I figured if it wasn’t great, I’d make iced tea with it. Fortunately, it is surprisingly good. Malty, bready, a little sweet on its own. I hope they keep this around for awhile, as I haven’t seen any cheaper alternatives (that I actually enjoy this much)
I’m not sure if this is what I bought though. The sticker just says “English Breakfast” with nothing about high grown or royal etc (the other Teavana EB out there).
Bah, what do I care… I just scammed them. Well not really. Let me have this… Heh.

Backlog from yesterday.
Five infusions in total. My fave was the third. So creamy and lots of cocoa!
The first two were ok, but now that I finally made it to the third one, it pales in comparison.
Fourth one was still a bit creamy, with a few mineral twinges. The fifth one was super mouth drying and a bit lighter with a heavy mineral party going on. I liked it, but I’m still not sure if I loved that part. It was rather unique!

Tommy Toadman

I love this one!!

Indigobloom

I can see why!! I’ll be sad when I run out

I made this on the fly today before leaving the house. Which meant I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have. Oh well, live n learn!
Also, this needs a bit of sugar to cover up that stevia taste. Funny that, sweet to cover up sweet?

JustJames

i’m not a fan of stevia either…. always tastes like i bit my lip.

Indigobloom

JustJames, it’s funny, sometimes I get that metallic blood taste and other times Stevia really works for me. Even in this particular blend shrugs

I got 10g of this and a few others the other day. My cupboard is feeling a little stale since I’ve been trying to par it down and thus haven’t made any purchases in awhile. I figured it’d be good to throw in a few new ones that make for easy sipdowns, and shake things up as well.
I’m not sure what made me grab one that focuses so heavily on cinnamon. I haven’t been a fan of the spice lately. It smelled so purty! and the organic tag reassured me that there’d be no artificial shtuff in there (ugh if I could just figure out which ingredient causes my ickness I’d be so happy!).
So today I made this cuppa. Looks like I got the bottom of the barrel as there were no orange bits to see or taste. It’s mostly cinnamon. I’ll have to go back and ask them about that…
Either way, it was nice for a change. I would definitely not want it more than once or twice a year but overall I found this particular blend rather drinkable. Also very smooth, unlike so many other cinnamon teas I’ve sampled. Colour me shocked.

Holy jeepers I still have some of this left!! It slipped my mind to label the tiny tin and got tucked away to the side. It still makes for a pleasant cup. I’ll be sad when its all gone!
Hey maybe I’ll try this one iced… at least on the final steep (cold brew!)

boychik

I liked it with touch of salt. it was like real potato pancakes with applesause

Indigobloom

Hmmm so you add salt to the cup after brewing? I must try this!! Thanks for the tip! :D

boychik

very little

Fjellrev

I’ll have to try that, boychik!

Kirkoneill1988

i don’t think ill try this as it the name “potato pancakes & applesauce” doesn’t make it sound tasty

Indigobloom

Oh Kirkoneill I can tell you it IS pretty darn yummy :P

Indigobloom

Boychik, I really hope I remember that next time lol

Kirkoneill1988

well, i cannot buy more tea ’till Christmas

A good solid tea.
For a few reasons I just wasn’t in the mood to deal with much loose tea (I made two cups at once). This really hit the spot.
I had to add an entire teaspoon of sugar to suss out any peachy flavour and even then it was super mild. I prefer not to add anything at all, or if I must just a quarter/half of a teaspoon so this won’t be one I’ll purchase again.
Also, like the tea I had yesterday, this wouldn’t do so well iced.
I’m on the hunt for a tea that I adore iced, besides Darjeeling. Trouble is, I tend to prefer most teas hot and I hate to “waste” it trying out all the iced tea making methods…

Kirkoneill1988

peachy flavor eh? sounds yummy

Indigobloom

I wish it had been more peachy to be honest!

Sipdown!! Just in time for summer… hmm. This is one I really enjoy and like to have in my cupboard, even though I don’t have it often enough. It sounds like one that should be great iced, but half the time when I make it iced, the profile just takes a really odd spin. The lemon note gets swallowed up and all I taste is the tea part but not in a nice way. More heavy and thick feeling (even when I underleaf/understeep!).
This, despite me measuring things precisely etc. Hot, I do enjoy it… so perhaps I’ll give it a rest for a few months to see how I feel about grabbing more at that point?
Unless someone out there has any input on how to do it up iced!

OMGsrsly

No input here I’m afraid. I went through 100g of it and sometimes it’d be great cold and other times it would be horrid. It wasn’t consistent enough for me.

Indigobloom

Yeah same here. 100g for me overall, in multiple purchases. Glad to know I’m not the only one!!

Roswell Strange

I was never able to get this one to really work for me cold :/

Indigobloom

I find it so odd! I feel like this one was designed with cold tea in mind, and yet it fails so badly…

Mint and chai, two flavours I love to have in my tea cupboard. Yum!!
Thank you to Cavorax for sharing!
The blend of spices and mint was perfect in this cup. I really enjoyed it. Though I can’t pinpoint what was in it exactly as the mint seemed to obscure things a tad. Not that I mind, delish is delish and I’ll take it :)

Kirkoneill1988

happily headless….. doesn’t sound right lol. nice review though :)

Indigobloom

I know right? I think it refers to a cartoon. thanks!!

I’m sad my review for this has disappeared.
My palate lately seems to have died and a lot of teas have been tasting the same.
But here is my take on it anyhow. This is a really fruity tea. It reminds me of fruitcake in that dried fruit soaked in alcohol way. Quite wine-ey. There is some mild astringency, just enough to be pleasant. Overall, a very good Darjeeling. It sets the bar high!
Too bad I only have a bit left. Would be willing to send it to anyone wanting a taste

drank Keemum by Sassy Teas
1759 tasting notes

Mum and a bunch of family came here for high tea today. It’s a lovely shop and the service is great. I’d recommend the place to anyone, no question! Every item served was super yummy. Oh and the decor, love it. Makes me feel as if I’m in a seaside garden.

I chose this tea because I wasn’t sure about any of the other black teas they have (I’m not a big English Breakfast fan and most of their other blacks seem to be of higher elevation and thus best enjoyed on its own to fully enjoy the taste!)
Not a bad one. Pretty standard, and good quality. Nice and brisk, a little smoky with that round sweetness I’ve come to like. Some depth there as well. Maybe some hay? I was too busy chatting, and forgot to pay attention haha. Anyhow. Anyone who lives nearby really should check out Sassy Teas!!!

Bio

Let’s see… I’m a tea and workout fanatic, I work in HR, and most of my friends consider me to be an egg. White on the outside, Asian on the inside :)
-from philosophy to food, I love it all
Otherwise, what you see is what you get! I can be very straightforward and yet shy.

Also, I’ve started taking tea sommelier classes and it is an absolute blast! Well, so far I’ve only finished the first out of eight courses, but I am really looking forward to the next one.

Anyhow, if your curious as to how I rate things, this is how I work…

0-25
Like eating dirt, or some other unsanitary indelicacy that mentioning in my profile here would likely get me banned.
I don’t think I’ve found cause to banish a tea to the wasteland yet though so who knows what it’d inspire ;P

25-50
You know that expression “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”? I imagine drinking that water would be terrible enough to warrant this rating!
I’d never make my enemy drink this, but perhaps I’d throw it at them. Good thing I don’t have any enemies!

50-70
This is “tea”?? I tried finishing the cup… but my body rejected it. There may be others who enjoy this tea, but it’s beyond me!

70-80
I tried liking it, and I can almost get there! I certainly don’t hate it, but something is holding me back. Allergies? Men in white suits? who knows… certainly not me!

80-90
Lovely tea! Not my all time fave but close. I likely wouldn’t repurchase, but may decide to based on many factors: price, accessibility, whether it fills a “tea gap”, medicinal applications, and how often I crave it.
Every once in awhile I find the sweet spot that bumps these up to 90+. Those are the days I need to buy a lotto ticket!

90-95
Sweet Camellia! this is realllly good tea! Don’t talk to me until I’ve finished my cup…

95-100
Tea of the gods. I would do anything to get my hands on more of this liquid gold!
