drank Coconut Matcha by Matcha Outlet
1759 tasting notes

This stuff smells like heaven!! from the box yet again.
I often think and even say I don’t like coconut but then I smell a pure sweet young coconut scent and remember that I do adore some coconut. Happy sighs.
It’s very creamy on it’s own. Just the way I love it! :D
I’m not sure what level of flavouring this is but I do wish it was a bit less. I can’t really taste the matcha.

Also, it looks like I am the first person to review this in almost a year?!

Roswell Strange

Technically my last note for this one was two months ago :P

Indigobloom

Oh! haha I only briefly perused the notes. Looks like I forgot to expand the further notes sections.

drank Melon White Tea by Lupicia
1759 tasting notes

Let me start of by saying that I generally dislike melon. I’ll eat it if it’s part of a dish or someone gives it to me, but not with relish or fervor(except fresh watermelon. Looooove watermelon!). Desserts that are flavoured like melon are even worse. Blech! I can’t stand it. Makes me wanna brush my teeth just to get the taste gone.
So when I heard about the melon teas at Lupicia, I was seriously not interested. A definite PASS for me.
But then I thought I’d better try it just to see what all the fuss is about. Cuz ya never know. YA NEVER KNOW!!! cuz it happens folks. Tea love strikes at the most random of times and you end up kicking yourself for not jumping on that wagon earlier. It’s so fresh and bright and happy tasting!
and now I’m all sad because isn’t this one discontinued???
It’s so incredibly tasty and I have no idea why, when I really should be disliking this cup. Does this apply to all melon teas? I swear I’ve had one before and it wasn’t like this. Or maybe it’s just this one cup, with these parameters? Or just the Lupicia version? I’m confused. Wouldn’t say that I’m annoyed, quite… ok yeah I would. Falling in love with a tea I can’t have has perturbed me. So there.

Indigobloom

OooOOooo?! thx for the heads up!

drank Orange Tea by Alokozay

Another one from the box!
Black tea. Orange flavouring. A bit fake but tasty nonetheless. Kindof like a lollipop. More like orange creamsicle when cooled off.
I dig it.
Extra points because most fruit black teas lose their mojo for me when they cool down. Not this one! noms

scoot over! i shall try this one too :D (someday hopefully)

drank Choc Chip Chai by T2

A tea from the traveling tea box! Thanks Amariel for sending it my way :)
(what was this one called again? My memory is broken haha)

Anyhow, the tea. With or without a dash of milk I found it quite yummy.
I see a lot of notes about how the chocolate aspect is missing. I dunno I went in thinking I probably wouldn’t find much cocoa and while I do find that I was right, there IS a distinct chocolate cookie impression, just not a strong one. I’d say 80% ginger cookie and 20% chocolate cookie. That exceeded my expectations! :P
Otherwise, the spices here are quite nice. Smooth, and perfectly blended. Of course, in a chai each spoonful of loose tea is slightly different so maybe I just got lucky.
Either way, if I came across this in a store, I’d snatch it up.

On a more personal note, this is turning out to be a terrible no good week. Some drama happened over the weekend and I got burned. Then Mum didn’t come home last night and she wasn’t answering her cell. She had an ultrasound appointment earlier that day so we were a bit worried and confused.
We got a phonecall at 12:30am that she was in the hospital with kidney stones. Had to pick her up and finally fell into bed at almost 4am.
I’m a bit of a zombie today. Plus I’ve been hovering over mama bird making sure she’s got all the things she needs.
I wonder what Wednesday will have in store for us…

Terri HarpLady

Wow, Indigo. Sound like you need a hug. Sending hugs your way :)
Glad your mom is ok!

Indigobloom

Aw thank you Terri, I need all the hugs I can get.
I’m quite relieved about Mum. but still worried!

I shouldn’t have had this today as I was not in the frame of mind to pay attention. Despite that though, I made it to four steeps.
What I can tell you is that this is delicious. Like the molasses version of red velvet cake. Smooth and sweet shaded by a mineral note and an even more potent sugary aftertaste.
Each steep was progressively sweeter and more mineraly.
Other than that I can’t really give any specifics. There wasn’t any real definition between cups which makes me think that this one could go on forever in a gaiwan. Great because, well yum, but I can see myself getting frustrated because if one cup just melds into the next, I won’t notice the differences as much. Like a frog in slowly boiled water.
Geeze, I’m feeling morbid today.

drank Cranberry Tea by MlesnA

So after finishing the box that was at my bf’s place, I bought a packet when I was in Ottawa last year to see if it was the same. Packaging was slightly different and all.
Turns out it is indeed the same tea! only more potent. My bf’s version was several years old and the wrapping wasn’t very protective (paper).
The fresh version was even better. Tart and bitter in the way cranberries are. I added nearly a teaspoon of sugar since I accidentally oversteeped. Very nommy!

drank Mint Green Tea by Unknown
1759 tasting notes

I went to a bridal shower two weeks ago and a small jar of this tea, loose, was one of the prizes. The lid is painted with slate so that you can write with chalk on it. They scrawled “mint green tea”. No indication of the company. I adore the periwinkle edging. I have mixed feelings about keeping tea in glass, but since my cupboard does have doors on it, should be ok right?
So the tea… Based on the rolled/semi balled leaves and metallic smell, and taste, I’d say the base is Gunpowder. Not my fave, but traditional for Moroccan Mint tea.
Today, I made a big mug iced with half a tsp of honey to cover up the metal note.
I quite like it this way. Not love but definite like. In fact, I may try and turn it into a mojito type beverage. Agave may work better. Need to pick some of that up as well. Throw in some soda water, vodka, mint leaves? Hmmm.
This will definitely hold me over til I find a mint green that tickles my fancy for summer :D. Thanks L for the tea!!!

Like: grassy, green vegetal notes with a side of something bake-y, or maybe rice?
Dislike: floral jasmine blech!!
Now that I can actually enjoy jasminesque teas without feeling ill, I can safely say that the aroma and taste does not appeal. I find it offputting. So this tea is rather disconcerting to me, having so many aspects I enjoy, and others I detest. Hmph. Anyone want some? I am more than willing to share!!!

It’s Tuesday… I’m in love? Doesn’t sound the same does it…
Anyhow, I reorganized my cupboard the other day and realized it had been three months since I had some of this complex beaut! Wow. Can’t let that happen again.
It isn’t the strongest tea I’ve ever had but then Darj rarely is. Plenty of character of course. I love how my palate can’t decide whether its an oolong or a Darj… because it really is both :P
Theres a definite muscatel note, very clouded by a sweet malty something or other. Barley, maybe? Not quite hay…. oh and then the aftertaste is a bit fruity. Apricot and sweet red honey berries. Oh man, this is my new amore!

On the personal front, I just need to vent a little. Feel free to ignore this part k?
The whole diagnosis/meds thing is taking absolutely forever. I went for blood tests last week, and a sleep test (if you ask I will rant about it, let’s just say it was awful). The GP wants to see me about the blood tests but he won’t prescribe any meds until the sleep test results come back and my app with that specialist isn’t til the 15th. In the meantime I’ve been quite miserable. Not feeling qualified to apply for jobs at the moment, or do much of anything productive has been very challenging. Then last week I stupidly decided to stop taking my Vitamin B supplement, for some reason I still haven’t really figured out. I guess I thought they weren’t doing anything for me? All I know is that the last few days have been hell. Well gee maybe that’s because the one vitamin proven to help with three of my health concerns was no longer in my diet! (thyroid/adhd/depression) . GUH!! I feel so silly now. Sure, circumstances and other things must have added to my predicament, but I am positive it could have been a much better week for me if I’d been more responsible with my self care SMH

Lala

Hope you can get answers and start feeling better soon.

TeaBrat

have you ever tried Sam-e?

Indigobloom

Thanks Lala :)

TeaBrat, I hadn’t heard of it before, will definitely check that out. Thanks for the tip!!

Profile

Bio

Let’s see… I’m a tea and workout fanatic, I work in HR, and most of my friends consider me to be an egg. White on the outside, Asian on the inside :)
-from philosophy to food, I love it all
Otherwise, what you see is what you get! I can be very straightforward and yet shy.

Also, I’ve started taking tea sommelier classes and it is an absolute blast! Well, so far I’ve only finished the first out of eight courses, but I am really looking forward to the next one.

Anyhow, if your curious as to how I rate things, this is how I work…

0-25
Like eating dirt, or some other unsanitary indelicacy that mentioning in my profile here would likely get me banned.
I don’t think I’ve found cause to banish a tea to the wasteland yet though so who knows what it’d inspire ;P

25-50
You know that expression “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater”? I imagine drinking that water would be terrible enough to warrant this rating!
I’d never make my enemy drink this, but perhaps I’d throw it at them. Good thing I don’t have any enemies!

50-70
This is “tea”?? I tried finishing the cup… but my body rejected it. There may be others who enjoy this tea, but it’s beyond me!

70-80
I tried liking it, and I can almost get there! I certainly don’t hate it, but something is holding me back. Allergies? Men in white suits? who knows… certainly not me!

80-90
Lovely tea! Not my all time fave but close. I likely wouldn’t repurchase, but may decide to based on many factors: price, accessibility, whether it fills a “tea gap”, medicinal applications, and how often I crave it.
Every once in awhile I find the sweet spot that bumps these up to 90+. Those are the days I need to buy a lotto ticket!

90-95
Sweet Camellia! this is realllly good tea! Don’t talk to me until I’ve finished my cup…

95-100
Tea of the gods. I would do anything to get my hands on more of this liquid gold!
