A malty, slightly smoky tea with hints of cocoa (presumably from the Keemun). Nice, flavorful, and round but a bit on the brisk side for me at a 4-minute steep. I’m going to reduce to 3.5 or 3 minutes and see if it’s more to my palate.

Flavors: Cocoa, Malt, Smoke

Preparation

I havent had this one in many years. I ought to try it again and see how much how tastes have changed. I liked it, but I orefer straight Keemun or a blend of all Chinese.

I’m still in my discovery phase of Chinese teas, but I could see Chinese blends being a bit more harmonious. I do think H&S is very good at blending and did a nice job getting these two to play together pretty well.

Fairly simple but nice, smooth flavor. I appreciate that it’s quasi-organic, but for the money, I’ll take Golden Monkey any day.

This stuff is amazing. It’s Golden Monkey’s brother, with rich round notes of molasses , honey, and flowers.

Malty yet bright, this is definitely a crowd pleaser (in a good way) and a great way to start the day. As with most breakfast teas, I take it with a little sugar and a little milk. At least at the low end of the steeping time recommendation (4 minutes), this is well within the range of astringency for a breakfast tea.

Bio

I’m new to discovering teas in a more in-depth way. I’m currently enjoying oolong and black teas, both unflavored and flavored (when flavors are handled nicely). In terms of flavors, I love florals but not so much fruits or vanilla). Working on my appreciation of green and white teas.

Please forgive any forays into wine terminology – my background is in wine tasting (cork dork, here).

My Rating Scale

90-100 Excellent/outstanding
80-90 Very good/would buy again
70-80 Decent/would drink again if offered
Sub-70 Blurgh
Unrated I don’t know enough about this type of tea or otherwise can’t offer a fair judgment
