drank Blueberry Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

DAVIDsTEA is really good at blueberry, so I have high hopes for this. So far, my favourite flavoured matcha from them is the Honeydew. That one has a ton of flavour, so much that a teaspoon in my protein smoothie packed full of mixed berries (with cookies ‘n’ protein powder), dare I say, overpowers all of the other flavours in a good way, of course. Preparing this the same way, I cannot taste the blueberry at all, just the grassy matcha. Granted, the flavouring is obviously blending in with the frozen blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

I’m now trying the last of this hot. Before adding milk, it’s pretty sweet. It reminds me that, oh yeah, DAVIDsTEA loads their flavoured matches with sugar. I can taste the blueberry here, and it’s realistic, thankfully enough, but not nearly as flavourful as the Honeydew. Adding milk to it, it’s a pleasant instant blueberry latte, except still a little too sweet for me. Would I buy more? Probably not, as it’s a little too expensive to justify considering the sheer amount of sugar they add to this, but it’s still worth trying, I’d say.

drank Orange Passionfruit by DAVIDsTEA

Sipdown! I’m going to miss this one, as it wasn’t too sweet and had a confident, sparkly orange note. Slightly tropical but not an obvious passionfruit.

This tastes like Five Alive to me

drank When Doves Cry by 52teas

It’s hard to believe that the FIFA World Cup is here again when I remember the last one like it was yesterday, hanging out in my West Coast apartment watching match after match while sipping on excellent tea. Work has been such a drag, facing endless passive-aggressive task dumping while coworkers stand around and do nothing but play on their phones, being subtly pressured into giving up my volunteering job/only day I’m unavailable if I want to continue getting more hours (while others with much worse availability get around the same hours), etc. Lather, rinse, repeat. So more so than ever, I’ve really been yearning for peace and quiet with a cup of tea.

This tea! I was so stoked about the apricot, vanilla, and candied violet combination. Violet! Always a pleasure having in my teacup. But I couldn’t taste any? I think my taster pouch had like 2-3 pieces of candied violet in total, so that could be why. They can be potent little things though, as I have a little tin of candied violet that I randomly treat myself to every once in a while and they pack a punch in terms of flavour.

Here, I am mostly getting very subdued apricot, maybe a hint of vanilla. I’ll admit that I was hoping for apricot à la ATR’s Tangier (RIP). Ok, maybe not that intense, but definitely more pronounced. I can taste the base more than anything, actually. I guess that isn’t a bad thing either, because after all, aren’t we all here for the actual tea and not the mix-ins?

Sorry about the work woes, and may great peace find you!

drank Honeydew Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

Wow! Adding this to my protein smoothie really brought out the honeydew flavour. I would have expected the flavours from the cookies ‘n’ cream from my protein powder and frozen raspberries to compete too much, but the first sip was Honeydew City. I could barely even taste the actual matcha.

Now to snag some of that Blueberry Matcha for my smoothies.

drank Vanilla Swirl by DAVIDsTEA

Getting home from a two-hour (if not longer, lost track of time) walk, I had (keyword: had) a whole jug of cold brew in the fridge just waiting to be guzzled. Yeah, it’s almost gone. This works so well both cold brewed or iced. A herbal jam packed with vanilla and lemongrass? What’s not to like?

Sipdown! It’s pretty sad that I log onto here and see that I haven’t written anything in nearly three weeks, although it doesn’t seem that long ago. I need to change that. I’m also surprised that according to my notes, I bought this around two years ago? I can’t believe it took me this long to finish then especially since I throw this into my smoothies now and then, or in phases.

Love this with my Musclepharm cookies ‘n’ cream protein powder, unsweetened coconut milk, plain yogurt (or kefir), and frozen raspberries.

drank Rhubarb Cream Soda by DAVIDsTEA

I was really curious about how this would compare to Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait, one of my favourite DAVIDsTEA fruit blends. Yeah, that one is by far better. I could barely taste the rhubarb in this? It was a little vague when it comes to the fruit. I’m writing based on memory, but it was like a watered down, sugared up SRP. Not really tart at all. The mango came out more and even then, it didn’t scream mango either. Been there, drank that.

It’s weird because I like juniper berries, the various berries in here, and pepper, yet I am very underwhelmed by this blend. I’m truly thinking that I just don’t care for tulsi. There are flavour variations yet it seems like every time I encounter a tulsi blend, it’s just so flat or off to me. I think for that reason I won’t even rate this one. What’s strange is I wouldn’t call this a warm blend, as it isn’t spicy enough for me to call it that, yet it’s not cool or cooling either. It just sits in the middle, in a puddle of lukewarm herbaceousness.

Now you have me curious.

Looks like I’m the odd one out. I almost didn’t order this due to the less-than-stellar reviews, but I’m so glad I did! It is very fragrant and heavy on the clove and plum especially. A little floral but not overwhelming. That plum note is so syrupy, like candy, and the clove is very present but not to the point that it feels like your tongue is falling asleep. Plus the orange peel contributes to that candy vibe. The description mentions that EG lovers would love this, and while I’m an EG fan, I don’t see much of a similarly between the two flavour profiles.

drank Gourmet Root Beer by 52teas
1792 tasting notes

Mmm, root beer. This tea is the perfect example of why I love root beer so much. I’ve loved it as a kid but could never figure out why other than the sarsaparilla. I thought that was all it had going for it, but it wasn’t until I tried a gourmet root beer later on (and not just the Hires, MUG, A&W, etc) that was not only root beer in stereo, but allowed me to taste other things in there too. Holy shit, there’s wintergreen in root beer traditionally? And star anise too? And clove? That’s what really made me understand why it’s the bomb, because
I love these things too. So blah blah blah, this tea is all that too. I can taste the star anise, a touch of sweet licorice root, star anise, cloves, and even vanilla. Not the wintergreen as much as the gourmet root beer I had for that first time, but still, this tea reminds me of good root beer! So Anne, you really nailed it here creating a tea that reflects a gourmet root beer.

I’ve only had this hot, without any additives so far but I’m curious to see what it would taste like with milk for a root beer float vibe, and of course, iced. Now that I have more room in my freezer, I popped in my ice cube tray and am looking forward to trying that out soon.
