1792 Tasting Notes
Thank you so much for the sample, Teavivre! I am finally writing a tasting note despite having it before, and I am happy to report that it is my favourite green out of the batch that was sent to me. It is very mellow with a touch of vegetalness. There is gentle buttery note in the background too. Very smooth.
As it’s cooling, the vegetal notes are coming forth a bit more but they aren’t overbearing. They’re along the lines of steamed green beans. I agree with other Steepsterites that it is similar to a Dragon Well, however, it is more mellow, not as buttery, and lacks that sour note that I personally pick up from most Dragon Wells.
I wouldn’t purchase any, but mostly because I tend to reach for roasted green teas whenever I’m in a green tea mood, but it’s nevertheless a tea worth trying out.
Sipdown! I think that brings me down to 33? That’s insane. Yesterday, a co-worker mentioned a new perfume that came out with Rose de Mai so that reminded me that I had one more cup of this left. A day off means being able to drink tea so this was first on my list. I absolutely love the fresh rose note in this but have grown a little tired of oolong bases over the past year. Don’t know why. Maybe I just over oolong’d myself. Would I buy more? No, but I would most definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of rose and/or green oolongs.
Sipdown! Thanks again to Teavivre for passing these samples down. I gave my last little packet to a friend who is a fan of green tea so I hope she’ll enjoy it! This personally wasn’t my favourite kind of green since I’m not into vegetal or mineral notes, but I know there are peeps out there who love that.
Yesterday evening was a double-edged sword because I was planning to go to the gym since I had an early shift and thus was coming home earlier, and as a side note, I feel disgusting because I haven’t been going as often. Even on my days off last week, I spent them running around getting stuff done and consequently ran out of time. Anyway, a job I really want that I applied for in the past opened up again and the deadline is today, so I thought I’d reapply, plus fix up my resume since I got suggestions back from the government career site. That took a hell of a lot longer than anticipated, mostly due to stupid formatting issues. Why a double-edged sword? While I had to forgo my gym time yet again, at least spending two hours on job applications meant having the time to enjoy tea.
I opted for this because I wanted something warm and desserty. Those raisin nut notes are smooth and it’s great that the nutty notes aren’t oily or rancid like they sometimes can be in some teas. The base is also smooth, so overall, the flavour profile makes for a very-easy-to-drink mug that’s gone in no time.
Sipdown! Whoa, I ripped through 100g in a few weeks. Between work not having a kettle (how?! why?!) at work and having no time to think about anything other than work even when I’m not there, I lazily opted to cold brew jugs of this until it was gone. At least I can take that to work. This was tasty and I didn’t get sick of it, so at least that’s a good sign. It’s melon but not overly artificial, thankfully.
Yet another sipdown! I added the rest to this morning’s protein smoothie but I oddly couldn’t taste it? And yet I added upwards of 7g. I noticed last time I had this and added like 3g, I couldn’t detect it. Looks like it can’t compete with the strongly flavoured frozen raspberries. I recall enjoying this hot as a latte, however.
Sipdown which brings me to 39! That’s a nice number to see. I had the rest of this cold brewed for work and while I enjoyed its bright citrusy notes, I’m happy it’s done because I was getting tired of it, particularly the base. It doesn’t taste as good cold brewed, yet I’d prefer to enjoy those Fruit Loop-like lemongrass notes cold rather than hot, so you can’t really win.
Since it’s a rainy day, I have domestic stuff to do like laundry, and I’m not feeling the best, I’m spending the day indoors drinking tons of tea and trying to flush my system, so-to-speak. It’s been difficult getting in enough water at work so I know I’ve been dehydrated (I’m hoping that is the reason why I’m quite a few pounds heavier when I hopped on the scale this morning :( ). Therefore, it’s the perfect day for Oksusu cha. I’m already on my… 4th gigantic mug?
Less roasted corn went into the pot this time and I’m preferring it. This fourth mug is now on the buttery side. It’s like I’m drinking Corn Nuts, yo. I turned off the burner a while ago and have about 1-2 more mugs left in there. I figured I should stop there since that means that by the time I’m done, I’d be at ten cups (since my mug holds about two cups).
I got drenched walking home from the train after work last night. It was pouring so hard but I was determined to get home. That’s another reason why I’ve been craving a day-long tea session.
Had a cup of this earlier in an effort to finish it up. I do enjoy it but somewhere along the way (maybe sometime last fall?), I slightly lost interest in drinking oolongs. The rose in this is gorgeous but I think at this point, I would rather go with a white tea base.
