26 Tasting Notes

I am brewing this with 8g from a 25g sample. I started with a 5s infusion and increased by 5-10s for the first few, then went up by a minute or two for the last couple of steeps. The first few steeps were sweet and earthy with a hint of mushroom, wood, wet earth. Tastes like the scent of a forest after a rainfall, or a wet decaying log, but in a good way. I noticed a slight sour tang on the finish. Around the 4th steeping, the earthiness started to fade into a pleasant taste that reminded me of cooking rice mixed with roasted pecans. I ended this around the 8th or 9th steep doing around 5 minute infusions. For the price, I think this is worth it as a daily drinker.

From a 25g sample. The tea started out with a fairly upfront bitterness and really dried my mouth out. There was some woody/grassy/hay flavors that hid under the bitter note. After 3 to 5 steepings, the bitterness started to fade, but there was no underlying flavor that was revealed. After around 7 to 9 steepings, it just tasted like a weaker version of the start.

Another hobby of mine is homebrewing beer. The first thing that struck me about this tea was the strong resemblance to a light wort which is the steeping water from the grain before hops, yeast, and fermentation transform it into beer. In this tea, I get a buttery biscuity flavor that transforms into a tangy slightly tart lingering finish. There is some present, but not overpowering roasty notes that fade in subsequent steepings. I get a light astringency that helps cut through the creamy butter. The liquid is fairly thick and coats my mouth. I’m on the third or fourth steeping and expect to get a few more.

Pleasant enough but a bit one dimensional. It has a light sweet floral flavor backed by a touch of roast. It is only good for about 2 or 3 infusions, but probably would go further with a different leaf to water ratio.

A 25g sample from Yunnan sourcing. Lingering flavour of hay or grass and a light bitterness that softens in later steepings. I can still taste this five minutes after a cup. This tea is very thick and coats your mouth and throat.

I don’t have much experience with Puer as this one of my first three shengs to have tasted so take this review with a grain of salt. I got a 25g sample of this from yunnan sourcing. I found it very lightly smoky and a touch sweet with a note of melon. The first 3 or so steepings were bitter, but not unpleasantly so. Further infusions resulted in a sweeter more mellow taste with a vegetal flavor coming in.
