Marshmallows in Tea?

Okay, random question – has anyone ever put marshmallows in their tea? I made a bunch of homemade marshmallows for Christmas and just don’t feel like drinking a bunch of hot chocolate. I do feel like drinking lots of tea! I put milk/cream in my tea so it’s pretty creamy anyway, and I’m wondering if anyone has ever tried adding a few marshmallows on top for a decadent treat.

If this is too weird, just ignore me. It’s probably near blasphemy for some. :)

I’ve personally never added marshmallows to tea, but I’ve had some tea blends that had little marshmallows in them and don’t see why it wouldn’t work with a creamy, chocolate-, or vanilla-flavored tea especially!

I have added marshmallows on top of my tea. I’ve also used tea (usually black teas – particularly chai blends, but also sometimes Oolong teas) as the base for a hot chocolate – instead of using milk or water, I’ve used tea or a combination of milk and tea.

It’s really yummy like that – it’s nice for when I want tea – but I also want a little something more.

I think I remember some of your teas containing marshmallows – and it came out pretty good.

Actually, we do marshmallow flavored teas – and teas with marshmallow root in them but we haven’t used actual marshmallows in our tea for the five years that we’ve been doing the 52Teas thing. I know that some of Frank’s first marshmallow teas had some mini marshmallows in them – but we do not include marshmallows now as we hold true to our pledge to keep our teas vegan.

Wait, marshmallows aren’t vegan?! I learned something new today.

And yes, I remember tasting marshmallows but not actually seeing them in your tea.

Most marshmallows are not vegan. There are some on the market that are – but I haven’t tried them. Most marshmallows are made with gelatin – and it is not vegan.

There is a brand called Dandies and the Trader Joe’s brand that are vegan and they are both pretty good. They aren’t as fluffy in texture as Jet Puffed. They are a little more dense, have a slightly harder outside like when marshmallows just start to go stale and have a crystallized fine sugar texture inside. I really like them.
I’m recalling that Butiki used to add vegan marshmallows to some blends and I think David’s does too, but I don’t think theirs are vegan.

I’ve always wanted to try Dandies!

I know about Dandies, I just haven’t tried them yet. They may at some point end up in my teas if I can find a good wholesale distributor for them.

Since lapsang souchong reminds me of a campfire, I’ve thrown marshmallows in that one before. Kind of like roasted marshmallows.

I hadn’t even thought of that, but oh my goodness it sounds perfect.

Ooooohhh! I’m going to have to try that now!
